Higurashi and Shiki are similar to each other in that both take place in small villages where mysterious deaths occur. Higurashi, however, contains slapstick comedic scenes to a degree, which is kept to a minimum in Shiki.

Both give a similar feeling: New guy arrives to a little village, and certain dark events start happening that are somehow related to a young mysterious girl. Slow and creepy atmosphere that makes you want to find out what´s going on. Brilliant ost and VA´s. Personally I enjoyed Shiki more, because it gives a deeper development to its characters and a more intricate plot. Still, Both are awesome animes that will keep you thrilled till the end, so if you enjoyed one, you will probably enjoy the other.

Shiki is more of a mystery show while Tokyo Ghoul is more action orientated. Shiki focuses at many characters at once while Tokyo Ghoul mostly follows main character Kaneki Ken. However, the main theme is pretty much the same. Both series deal with a conflict between humans and other being that are there to devour us. In Shiki vampires, in Tokyo Ghoul those are ghouls. Both stories start from the perspective of humans being a victim and then eventually we get to see things from "enemies" perspective and then the main question comes: Just who is the real monster here?

Both Shiki & Shinsekai yori are shows that can be described as a slow burn, never fully giving anything way and thus require a lot of patience. Your patience will in turn be rewarded, as both shows come to a thrilling conclusion. Do not watch either if you lack patience. and an open mind.

A foregin life form invades human society and starts infecting the population. Faced with thes alien creatures, the lines between man and monster, and good and bad start to shift. While these shows quite differ in characters and atmosphere (Shiki is a dark fantasy/mystery and Parasyte is more sci-fi and action oriented), both ultaimtely tackle same, age old question: What makes a human human and what differentiates us from animals/monsters? Parasyte goes one step further and gets a bit enviromental, questioning man's relationship with Earth, but not in an annoying, preachy fashion.

They both develop a similar theme: how forsaken creatures are seen by others. They also seem to criticise the narrow mentality of human beings and to show the darkest part of them. I think the original idea come from Mary Shelly's famous novel. While Elfen Lied fails to be a good show and falls into a gore anime full of fanservice, Shiki remains thought-provoking and atmospheric, and, of course, surpasses the first one. Also, the amount of gore is high in both, and the music is simply beautiful.

Both shows eventually evolve into stories that include the theme of Man vs Monster; Showing us the darker parts of humanity and making us question who are the truly evil ones.

Summertime Render has the same small village type atmosphere that Shiki has. Odd things keep happening, quite literally, in the shadows. People get replaced with a superior version of themselves and the main protags need to fight off the intruders. It's similar in the aspect that the reader has the awesome foresight to know what's happening already while the actual characters gradually put the pieces together as the chapters continue on

Supernatural intrigue runs rampant in a small town when the borders between the spiritual and psychological become intertwined.

Both having FEARSOME vampires. Really, a lot of vampire stories are having soft vampire stories. Vampire Knight is awesome, but the vampires are lacking much things. Shiki and the Dance in the vampire Bund are both more like the myths. Both anime are having an dark aura and really get you into the anime. And in both anime the vampires are trying to take over the place.

Creepy mystery-thriller plots. Feature a stalker girl. And lots of blood and whacks. Shiki is a lot more mood-driven, and Mirai Nikki feels more mainstream.

Both are from the same creator, and have a supernatural mysterious plot with some horror and drama. The characters are all great, and the main character is a anti social boy with a cold attitude but he really cares about his friends and tries to find the truth behind the events.

Both are set in a remote village where monsters (or vampires) roam around by night. Both early episodes started out very slow until in the middle, things finally took off.

In both animes everything was peaceful, until suddenly people start turning into monsters, zombies in High School of the Dead and vampires in Shiki. Both anime contains an atmosphere of horror and mystery. If you want an anime with blood and slaughter, both are recommended.

Both are about humans and some other species coexisting (or not). Both are quite violent and have similar messages about what it means to live/survive. Shiki is much more serious and has much more philosophical grey-area to it, Ajin is often more light-hearted and sometimes comical, but still serious when it needs to be. If you like one you might like the other.

Although these two differ in a lot of ways, their atmospheres seem very similar. In both shows, all of the characters share an interesting sort of bond which is linked to the place in which they live and great emphasis is placed on the setting of the anime.

Superficially,Juuni Kokuki and Shiki are not so similar. Juuni Kokuki is a fantasy story about 12 asian-like kingdoms and Shiki is a horror story in a small village. However, Those two stories were originally written by Fuyumi Ono and both stories share the same concept about life and humanity. If you are in the mood to be disappointed with ugly part of human beings but also want to look for the beauty in this ugliness, Juuni Kokuki is definitely the first choice. Both these wonders of art are the epitome of top-tier horror in anime, with stark and poignant cautionary tales to boot. Whilst both cover segregation, social anxiety and racism, shiki is more focused on the generational gap.

While not conventionally similar in terms of storyline these two anime have a hell of a lot of similarities. - Both have two young girls which have a back story contributing to the events that unfold - Both have 4 MC's with similar genders and connections - Both contain people willing to surrender if it comes to helping civilization - Both contain antagonists who tend to start off as normal citizens but are turned into killers due to events I cannot promise you will like one if you enjoyed the other all I can say is that the similarities do not end there.

Supernatural vampire shows in which vampires look and behave nothing like how they were portrayed in the Western fantasies. In fact, vampires wear bright, colorful clothes and is not turned into beasts by their blood-lust. Granted though, that Shiki is a dark show with very brutal scenes while Sankarea is much more light-hearted.

I would consider both of these to be masters in what they are trying to do with the horror genre. They are both excellent at building tension and conveying meaningful ideas through the tragedy of others. Mononoke is divided into a few separate arcs, while Shiki is a single story. The music in both is absolutely stellar, I would argue the two best horror soundtracks in anime (both done by Yasuharu Takanashi). If you want something to creep out to, these two are among the best.

Somewhat intense murder-drama-mysteries. Have a realistic feel, and delve into the human condition. Make you question who is REALLY the monster. Have doctors who act as detectives.

Both Shiki and Hitsuji no Uta contain intricat plots involving vampires. Instead of the run-of-the-mill KILL THEM ALL concept, both shows bring forth different spins, bringing a different respect to vampire-based anime. Granted, both of these shows have entirely different plots (Shiki focusing on vampires trying to take over a vilage and the morality of murder, where as Hitsuji no Uta focuses on the concept of vampirism being a hereditary illness), the two share common elements in their ability to create a tense, eerie atmosphere and possess a story told in a serious tone.

Both series deal with isolated towns that have a different species that's hostile to humans. There's horror and people dying, but the endings are pretty good.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni has a lot of similar aspects to this series, such as; a new boy from the city in a small rural town, yet there is possibly more to compare Shiki to in Umineko no Naku Koro Ni - same maker as Higurashi, and possibly sequelesque. Supernatural aspect in both series' are made obvious from the begining (even the opening), which leads to the assumption unworldly individuals are involved. There is a clear mystery element; creepy, mysterious and agonistic characters (mainly girls) and luxary, stand-out-houses holding harbouring aristocratic people.

Both shiki and kakegurui had certain parts that were filled with so much tension that sent chills down my spine but at the same time made me think just how beautifully thought out the pieces were. I really recommend shiki to anyone who likes tension, dramatic scenes and a bunch of cliffhangers so you'll have to finish it in one night (halloween eve would be the best option!)

Shiki and Perfect Blue are top tier examples of psychological thriller anime. Perfect Blue is a very layered movie using its themes to build paranoia and terror. You witness the main character being increasingly pressured as she is dealing with an unknown stalker until its climatic ending. Shiki is much more than a horror vampire/monster anime, which is what people often emphasize in their recommendations. How Shiki builds terror and suspense through the consequence of living in a community being preyed upon by vampires is make makes this anime an excellent psychological thriller. Both are intelligent takes on the vampire tale. Shiki has a linear plot though, and takes its cues from Western vampire stories, while Kurozuka is far more complicated to follow and harks back to the more traditional Eastern vampire folklore.

Humans vs. Vampires, but Owari no Seraph is much better for multiple reasons - characters are well developed, faster pacing, and there's actually equal tension on both sides of said battle. Shiki lacks many of these things. Shiki's plot is murky in comparison, and it's watching a 'losing battle' on a rural countryside hill. Despite that, people who liked Shiki will probably also enjoy Owari No Seraph for similar themes.

Both have a theme of dead peoples who gets alive again. Both have two options ,In Death parade peoples are either send to void or reincarnated and in Shiki peoples either die or came back to live being vampires. Both have a main character who is male and have to do there work even if he wants it or not , as in Shiki the doctor have his duty to protect the village from diseases and have to kill vampires though in Death parade the bartender has to make give pain to people's to judge them. The both have gore, blood and deaths.

the art is VERY similar, I just started watching Tokyo Ravens and I couldn't help but remember Shiki, also because of the small countryside feel in the begining, and then both deal with the supernatural, there are also similarities between some of the female characters... but Shiki is gory and scary while tokyo ravens is not.

- Both are set in an isolated place. Mugen no Ryvius in a spacecraft, and Shiki in a rural village. - Both have saboteurs/attackers whose identities are unknown to the main characters, but are made known to the viewer. In both series, there are main characters that you may get to dislike or even hate, due to their morally questionable choices. Also, both titles have a highly dramatic finale. Both shows deal with monsters who seek to kill humans. The main difference is that in Claymore, there is an organization to kill the monsters. I guess the main reason I think they are similar is the general creepy feel they both give. I would definitely recommend both if creepy horror anime are your thing.

Both shows, - have a main character that just moved from the city to the countryside and gets to know the new environment. - show a similar idyllic scenery with fields, forested hills, clear streams, little houses - feature the daily lives of the country dwellers So if you are interested in rural Japan, both shows might be of interest for you. Shiki is a bit more on the darker, Non Non Biyori a bit more on the brighter side.

Two factions of opposing ideologies fight. Both commit acts that are morally wrong, and who is correct and should win is never exactly clear. There are a lot of characters, and a lot of them will die. Shiki has more horror elements, but both include some gore, though Akame ga Kill is lighter in tone.

Both are terrific dark fantasy/horror anime about monsters who have to fight and kill in order to survive and have a place in their worlds. They both feature monsters that are still quite human and behave accordingly who are able to feel remorse, sadness, loneliness they even cry and are afraid of "dying"(loseing their current selves). The contrasting dark and colorful art works perfectly with both stories, the characters and the tones that they set make both anime masterpieces. Thanks for reading, -Tooru25

Well, similar to Ousama game, you have a lot of characters dying and fighting to live. Shiki takes place in a remote village - similar to yonsaki village and surprisingly has a quite a lot of romance to do with the main characters like ousama game. The MC in Shiki starts out as a very cold guy and unwilling to make friends (see that connection with Nobuaki in the first episode?)

Both are about vampires, shiki is more bloody, but it shows vampires struggling to find their place in the world (by less peaceful means). I also recommend this from black blood brothers because Im sure lots of people might not even notice shiki or think its a vampire anime, because I didnt.

(shiki) Even though the hair is crazy the characters feel like real people and think like real people even the shiki do too BUT i warn you it's slow paced at the start and you may not like that (Youjo senki) germany in ww1 with magic and a crazy little girl that's actually a business man goes around shooting people and talking about how much she hates god lmao the only thing that really connects the two anime is that people die and that they both have psychopaths and that god doesn't give a damn

Zombie-Loan and Shiki aesthetically have extremely similar lanky and 'edgy' art styles and ways of shading (very much hard colors and pure black shadows). Also, the stories are both about supernatural beings versus humankind, although both present the matter in much different ways. Both have dramatic moments and showcase the struggles of humans.

If you want a good mystery that builds into something bigger, these two offer that in spades. They obviously both have creepy vibes, though I would say Kagewani is more of a cheesy flick than an actual horror anime. Shiki is more philosophical in it's themes, but it's all fairly simple stuff to understand. Either of these are perfect to watch around Halloween, or whenever you are in the mood to turn off all the lights and get creepy. The music in Shiki is also top notch.

Both are dealing with the occult, but difference is quite large too. Shiki deals with vampires/zombies hybrid? and is more of mystery, psychological. Occult Academy has some comedy, deals with a general mix of occult like spirits, witchery etc. and has a feeling of adventurous spirit and time-travel. A teeny little bit of romance too. The anime industry has very few examples of vampires in a horror anime. Shiki is a slow burn anime series that builds tension with its mystery and suspense until all the storylines reach their climax. Blood: The Last Vampire is a very short anime movie, but it is still able to create and build up tension, which makes the action sequences better. Their approach to horror might be different, but you won't regret the experience.

Both have very dark supernatural plots where many people die and the protagonist tries to solve the mystery behind those deaths. While Kuroshitsuji focus on comedy, drama and demons, Shiki focus in psychological, drama and vampires. The protagonist seeks revenge for something that happened to him. Both have an outstanding soundtrack and voice actors, as well a very unique art, where the outfits are great. Although, Shiki is very slow paced and Kuroshitsuji fast paced, they will both leave you addicted if you watch them until the end~~

While the narratives are quite different, they are both excellent if you are looking for unexpected thrills. They both deal with slowly uncovering a secret, though Made in Abyss really takes it's time with that as it's not yet finished as of writing this. They are both quite violent, though both manage to do it in a way that feels very intentional and meaningful. They show how brutal their worlds can be. Made in Abyss is obviously much more about the adventure of it all, but both have a similar air of mystery as their stories are slowly uncovered by the characters.

It may not seem like it but Angel Beats and Shiki do have a few things in common. In both of these anime, the dead come back to life and live in a specific area. In Angel Beats, it's the school while in Shiki it is the small country town everyone lives in. Another thing is the action. There is a bit of fight scenes in both although Shiki is more of a mind game rather than the fighting that goes on in Angel Beats. They both had a sense of mystery as to what the heck was going on too.
