the protagonist have to solve many mystery case that related to school life or teenage life problem and we as the audience are invited to participate to solve the problem as well, also the characters are very catchy especially if you like imouto-type girl in it because chitanda-chan is reaaally cute !!

Both of these take place in the modern Japan school setting and involve "solving" mysteries. The main difference here is that in Hyouka the majority of the mysteries can be explained through everyday occurrences whereas in Bunny Girl the mysteries are strictly supernatural and require further analysis especially digging into things such as quantum mechanics. Both are amazing and I think anyone who enjoyed one would enjoy the other.

Both of the shows have the same genre such as Mysteries and School.both of them have introverted MC.the animation on both is pretty good.both shows have a unique storyline that makes it very interesting to watch.if you want to watch a relaxing mystery anime,these animes takes the cake

Protagonists are kinda same..Few/no friends..quiet yet kinda smart...and then the sense whats about to happen is even better here though the slow paced romance and tons of waifus are missing

While DN is more ion the supernatural stull and minds confrontation Hyouka has a group with diferent abilities that try to solve the misteries.

While Death Note takes itself more seriously with all the killing and thinking of oneself as god, Hyouka manages to one up it in the mystery department. Death Note has a lot of cool twists and turns so for those who enjoyed trying to guess at what would happen next or something along those lines I would recommend Hyouka. Although it is one of the numerous high school club shows and is therefor basically some sort of slice-of-life it stands alone because of its excellent writing. Every single mystery is solveable by paying close attention but most are too difficult to figure out. The animation is also superb and the none of the characters are very annoying. There is ofcourse some percentage of Death Note fans who will be bored out of their mind now that the mysteries aren't life or death anymore but I really recommend giving Hyouka a chance. read more

If you liked Oreki's mystery solving in Hyouka then you'll be blown away by the deduction skills of the characters in Death Note. While Hyouka involves solving lighthearted mysteries in highschool, Death Note's mystery follows the path of a murderer. While the characters in Death Note don't exactly solve mysteries, they are masters of deduction, and their conclusions have a similar feel to when the mystery is finally solved in Hyouka. Now Death Note is a much much darker story than Hyouka, but if you enjoy these types of intellectual genius characters then you'll love Death Note.

Both of the anime is about mystery or detective.
The different is Hyouka is more normal, while Death Note got Supernatural in it. 
Also, Death Note story is more dark than Hyouka because Death Note include some killing while Hyouka include a bit of slice of life without killing.
But overally if you like mystery, puzzle and detective... Death Note and Hyouka would be a perfect anime to watch for you ^^

They're both great mystery anime with similar themes of crime and deduction. The main difference is that Hyouka is more lighthearted, while Death Note takes a darker approach to the genre.

You could say Haruchika is a rather immature (ie. uneven, thus far) combination of BOTH Hyouka and Hibike! Euphonium: mystery-solving character drama involving a brass band club.

Takes place in school too, it's about a club too actually. Very similar to Hyouka, but I gotta say Hyouka has a bit more intense and adult and serious aura than HaruChika.

Both stories are about the activity in a school's literature club. Both of the clubs solve some kind of minor mysteries, some of them have happened several years ago. If Bungaku Shoujo was a TV series, I'm sure it would have been even more similar to Hyouka.

Some of the characters in those anime are very much alike.
1. The main heroines in those anime, Eru and Touko, are very similar, in looks, in their goals and character. 
2. The protagonists, Hotarou and Konoha are both talented, but they don't realize it, talk about it or try to use their talents by their own initiative. They also look similar, and have the same role in the anime. 
3. In addition, in both anime the creators were focused on the character design and unique behavior of recurring characters with very small roles in the story.

Both have a boy and a girl solving  mysteries together. Touko has very similar personality with Chitanda, as the normally polite-speaking girl but revealed to have weird quirk and really love mysteries. The relationship with main cheracters and the atmosphere are also pretty similar. Hyouka has more mysteries, while Bungaku Shoujo has more focus on the drama, relationship, and romance.

They both have the same storyline : SOLVING A MYSTERY. Both have a main character who will solve crimes/mysteries. The difference is that Detective Conan has a more complicated and more bloody crimes/mysteries than Hyouka. Hyouka is much simpler compared to Detective Conan.

Both involves mystery and suspense - Detective Conan involves solving crime cases whereas Hyouka involves solving general mysteries. Also, both involve main characters of high school with good deductive capabilities. Also, both has some romance and sometimes, emotional scenes.

Both anime got a same situation where the main characters solve different kind of issues they run into. If you like mystery, you might got interested in both of these anime.
Hyouka mystery is mostly revolving around the high schools.
On the other hand, Detective Conan is not only in school since the mystery is mostly about murder and puzzle.
Both of these anime also got romance about the main and side character where they progress in each episodes.
If you like solving mystery and puzzle, both of these anime might be suitable for you and you will find it enjoyable and fun. 

P.S. Talking about Detective Conan, it's actually an underrated show because of it's huge number of episode, but based on my experience from watching Detective Conan, the plot is actually good, and like i said above, it's actually got a good romance story between the main and side character. If you don't have time, you can skip the fillers and just watch the main stories and that's basically what i do. Despite all that, you can also watch hyouka if you can't watch Detective Conan because of it's episodes. I'm sure you won't regret spending your time to watch Detective Conan. (Sorry for talking a lot about Detective Conan, since it's one of my favorite anime and i want to share it with all of you ^^)

The main girl in Tamako Market is basically a blue-eyed Chitanda Eru. Their personalities are also very similar. Plot-wise these two animes don't have much in common, but none the less they're both quite fun!

Both have very enjoyable and diverse characters, which make up the heart of their stories. They are fundamentally about interactions between people and learning what those interactions mean. They are both very warm and enjoyable, with somewhat similar comedy (though Tamako Market can be a bit more out there).

Both series are handled by the same production company - Kyoto Animation. As such, expect some of the artwork to be similar.

Both series' main female protagonist not only looks alike but also has similar personalities in terms of their enthusiasm and ability to help others in need. The other characters in the series also becomes good friends with her.

Both series features a sort of episodic sequence where every day presents a new challenge, idea, and way of living. 

Also, both series are lighthearted with drama, comedy, and some fun moments thrown in.

Hyouka and Sakurasou have very little to compare regarding their cast and their plot. Both are great in production quality and execution. However, their biggest similarity is that both tackle the thematic element of the "genius". Both series question how unfair it is for people to simply be more talented. Certain characters, like Satoshi from Hyouka and Sorata from Sakurasou, become frustrated with their talents compared to geniuses like Houtarou and Mashiro, who seem to accomplish things as if it were second nature to them.

Both also show the flipside of the coin and talk about how even geniuses are nowhere near perfect. For example, Mashiro works tirelessly to achieve her goals and never learns to take care of herself. And Houtarou makes incorrect conclusions if he doesn't get the whole picture. Both characters have to rely on the support of the rest of the cast to continue producing results. read more

Now I could recommend these anime for their similar outward themes such as a boy looking after/ helping a somewhat eccentric girl but that's not really what makes them similar. On a deeper level both anime deal with themes regarding talent and the effect which it can have on friendships and those around you.   

-In Hyouka the main character has talent that he does not wish to use and is, to some extent, resented as a result of his natural ability
- In Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo, the main character is an average person surrounded by talent who wants to show his own talent, feeling resentment when he is unable to do so

Now you might be wondering why I'm recommending a mystery anime from a slice of life anime. Well the reason is despite Hyouka being mystery-driven, it managed to put in a story ─the same kind Sakurasou has which is the feeling of not being good enough at what you do (or what you want to be) because there's somebody whose exponentially better than you (or better than what he/she does).

But the twist is this: In Sakurasou, our main protagonist is the one who "looks up". The guy who is basking in these unbelievably talented people surrounding him and the one who feels sorry for himself. In Hyouka, our protagonist IS the unbelievably talented person but doesn't want to admit it.

The drawback of recommending Hyouka though is, of course, its genre. Being a mystery anime, it has to put it's attention and screen time on the mysteries.  So what they do is they crank up the ambiguity and subtlety. The effect of this is you might not understand or even pick up the narrative it's trying to tell. But, if you're like me who gets into mysteries by drawing his/her own conclusions based from the clues given, then you'll be alright. It's funny because the story from Hyouka is like a mystery itself that you have to find out. read more

Two series about school clubs. Probably some of the most famous out there. They both have semi-episodic stories that build to a conclusion, and are enjoyable to follow. They both give off similar vibes, though K-On! tends to be more goofy in the first season. If we look at the series as a whole, the slow but steady growth of the characters is enjoyable to watch in both. They are well written and well developed, and always a pleasure to watch. If you want to relive your high school "glory days", or just get invested in that kind of setting, these will both do you no wrong. read more

+Both series takes place at school like setting with a club of friends doing fun things; the activities they enjoy.

Both great animations (similar drawings), both mainly about a boy and a girl, where the boy helps out the girl (A LOT). A club is an important part of the anime, but plays more of a role in Hyouka. Also, a similar atmosphere to both animes. Both have a great soundtrack.

Before I start I'm just going to say that I am using "Bakemonogatari" as a way of recommending the entire Monogatari franchise not specifically this season. Ok now, both of these series revolve around high schoolers and have problems that are being solved. Both also share a similar approach to storytelling as there are scenes in Hyouka where the animation changes style completely when telling a story or we see something happen on screen that isn't necessarily actually happening, it's just occurring in a characters head. This can also be seen in Monogatari, however it occurs more often in Monogatari than Hyouka. The key difference between these two, other than length, is that Monogatari generally deals with the supernatural, and Hyouka generally deals with things that could initially be seen as unusual but then can be described perfectly in a way that makes it no longer unusual. Both are amazing and you will most likely enjoy one if you enjoyed the other. read more

Hyouka and Shinrei Tantei Yakumo do share some similar points, but are also at the same time quite different.
• both stories mainly deal with mystery cases and how to solve them
• this brings authomatically to have a very brilliant main character, in both series, who is able to solve them
• both are setted into a school background and both have the "club" theme as well
• still, both have a noticeable dose of weirdness: STY has of course a strong supernatural genre, and Hyouka has somewhat special scenes involving unknown powers (the girl's curiousity-catchphrase has it easy when wants to pursuade the main chara in changing his decisions)

Now instead to the different part:
• substantially Yakumo has a heavy dark atmosphere; while Hyouka is quite much slice of life and doesn't exclude comic scenes, which overall gives it definitely a happier atmosphere.
This might look "just one thing" but it really does make the difference.

Anyway i thought to recommend both, because even if they can give different "vibes" since they are totally setted with different atmospheres, they still recall one another.
You might like Yakumo if you liked Hyouka, and viceversa. read more

Dialogue heavy with focus on the mystery genre. Rather than focusing on one mystery/case it tends to be an episodic style that does one per episode (Hyouka changes a bit later though) Shaft and Kyoto Animation both animate these really nicely as well.

The aura of the to shows are similar. Even if the stories are quite different, but they both have the same slow tempo with a lot of explaining at it's center. They're both mystery shows that keeps pulling you in even though the story telling is slow. The art of Kyokou Suiri is also quite similar to the classic Kyoto animation style of Hyouka.

Both give a similar feeling. Stories aren't alike at all but both share a quiet and mysterious atmosphere.
The friendship is  important in both. Natsume and Oreki aren't social  people, but they finally create a group of friend around them.
Plus, both anime refer to a traditional aspect of Japan.

An antisocial, emotionally detached cynical boy meets a cheerful bubbly girl filled with innocent wonderment that opens their eyes to the beauty of the world. They learn that life is about more than just making it through each day, it's about stopping and enjoying the present while it's in the moment instead of reflecting back on it when it's already gone.

Both are mostly episodic anime about a main character who solves mysterie. The two main characters, Houtarou and Holmes, use logic to deduce simple mysteries. The main difference is that Hyouka takes place in a high school while Kyoto Teramachi Sanjou no Holmes takes place at an antique shop in Kyoto. Both shows have a relaxing atmosphere and a small romance subplot.

Both have a similar fashion of a lead male character with a rather dreary, boring life...spiced up by meeting a girl with an upbeat personality that helps change their world views.

It also appears the romantic sub-plots are going to work in a similar fashion as well.

If you want to watch a really genki girl interact with a rather stoic and taciturn boy, you might enjoy one or the other. Coincidentally, Nakamura Yuuichi voices both Oreki and Tada, which makes both characters feel similar, in addition to their personality.

Despite of different stories, both have nice art and soft setting and they are about a group of friends from school. I found very similar the relationship between main characters (Oreki and Chitanda, Kazehaya and Sawako) very slow and cute, but Hyouka focuses more on mystery than romance of course.

Both characters are able to solve problems using logic and reason (though in God only knows its that logic is based on video games) the thought process is the same. 
Also, the protag.'s Whiny Bitch Meter is very low in both anime so they are enjoyable to watch and don't make you want to murder the guy.

Hyouka is an adaptation of the Koten-Bu Novel series, beware that it doesn't have an actual conclusion. It's similarly slow-paced and character driven narrative nestles it into the same niche as Hana to Alice. Hyouka utilises mundane mysteries--which are great on their own--as a backdrop for its characters. Hyouka has similarly high-production values and the same sort of deadpan humour, with distinct and unique characters.

They eventually join a club, whether it's the Classics Club or the Supernatural Research Club, and all the fun begins. They get to spend time with a possible romantic interest and are dragged into all kinds of fun mysteries.

These shows are similar in the sense that they are opposites. The MC in Yojouhan wants a Rose-colored life, while MC in Hyouka doesn't want that. Their journey has something different in it's mind for both of them though~ Both of these shows are about the characters, about growth and love.

• Both the MC are geniuses that possess high intellect but have a lazy character/nature.
• Both animes contain an adventure & comedy element in them.
• Both animes will keep you in suspense and anticipates what is going to happen next.
• Slight hint of romance

I would strongly recommend both anime series as they are equally entertaining in different ways.

If you're interested in school mysteries but enjoy a bit more slice of life, Hyouka is the perfect anime to watch next! Both Hanako-kun and Hyouka are centered around strange occurrences around school, but where Hanako-kun divulges into a supernatural world, Hyouka explains these mysteries in a plausible real life series of events.

These are both some of my favourite series, so I do hope that you enjoy Hyouka if you decide to watch!

After a session of careful thought, you can see that what the lead male characters are doing is pretty similar. 

Presented like there are something supernatural going on, both shows are about myth busting in a world without the slightest existence of sci-fi elements. It's all about the idea of unconventional presentation of a very conventional, realistic setting.

Denpa Onna anime, as far as it goes, has nothing defying the laws of physics. No matter how it wanted you to think or feel about, there is not one. No saying about the original light novel as it might has some surprising revelation later, but it is likely that there might not.

Hyouka on the other hand is beautified with scenes that look and feel otherworldly, but they are at best the presentation of character's feeling. Again, no ghosts, aliens, psychic, time traveler and evil crime orgainzation to be found. Just a bunch of high schoolers being curious of stuff you will never ever give a quarter of fuck. read more

Tamako Love Story addpermalink

Their art style is very similar and the level of romance are almost the same. Even the personality and background of the female protagonists are quite similar. Chitanda is from a noble famous family while Tamako is also the daughter of a famous family-run mochi shop. Both have very cheerful, sweet and friendly personalities. The male protagonists are also both secretly in love of the female protagonists. Also, in both anime, there is a cliffhanger in the end about the romance between the main characters that would surely make you scream for more.

Both series revolves around the theme of detective fiction in a school life setting. 

Both series' main female protagonist have similar personalities with the common passion of wanting to solve cases, helping others, and being a curious girl.

Both series contain drama, comedy, and occasionally emotions that defines the moral of some mystery cases.

Both series involves an intelligent protagonist good at what he does: solving mysteries.
Both series present humor and drama in a strange way.
Both series contain another main character that is curious of the world and interested in tagging along with the main protagonist.
Both series are great detective fiction fun.

Hanasaku Iroha addpermalink

The art in these two animes are spectacular and very similar to each other despite not being from the same studios. You can also draw parallels between Minko (from Iroha) and Oreki (Hyouka) as well as between Ohana (Iroha) and Chitanda (Hyouka). Both also carry the same gentle and relaxed flow to the story progression. Both can be described as good Summer feeling animes.

Under the same director and animation studio, we are presented with a bored, cynical, and generally unsociable male protagonist who is largely uninvolved with his high school life until his encounter with the eccentric and emphatic female protagonist whose request for help pulls them into an adventure they would never have experienced otherwise. Initially, both protagonists are reluctant to help, but continue to find themselves becoming more and more involved and even attached to the people he made friends with.

While I have also recommended Hyouka for season 1 of K-On!, I feel that season 2 is the true similarity. Both series feature semi-episodic stories that build to character growth and a journey of self-discovery and friendships. They are about a small cast in school clubs, and while the club activities are different, the focus on the bonds between characters is strong in both.
