The main characters in both series are highschool students who form an investigation team, with both protagonists who start out as emotionless (for character development purposes in Yu Narukami's case) then they open up and gain friendships as they uncover secrets about their surrondings, but also energetic best friends who push the protagonist forward and are both associated with The Magician tarot card which explains their jealousy of the protagonists at one point.
