Both involve highly intelligent people generally outwitting others, but whereas Death Note was involving a killing spree and utopia, Liar Game is about trying to get out of a game of, well, lies.  The artwork is sort of similar, too, and I personally think Akiyama is more intelligent than Light because Akiyama generally has his plans run right from the get-go and has already factored most outcomes, whereas Light relies too much on others' reactions.  Akiyama's reliance on reactions is more like putting the last brick on the castle; castle's already complete, but a perfectionist just needs that one last brick.

The main conflicts run like complicated cat & mouse games, with psychological strategies and out manoeuvring between genius characters. There are more puzzles in Liar Game, but Death Note does have it's moments. However Death Note is supernatural with an anti-hero main character while Liar Game is realistic with a naive girl/con-artist protagonist main pair. They have quite a similar detailed art style, though Death Note is more gothic.

Both involve highly intelligent main characters, though Amamiya reminds more of L then of Light. The Characters are facing problems that they have to solve using their brain. Liar Game is more focused on tricking people, but when you liked DN (like me) it's quite possible that you might like Liar Game too.

Both manga are brain-thinking. It is both mystery and suspense. It is an out-wit battle between the good and the bad.

Death note goes in the direction of fantasy where Liar Game goes into reality.

Death note is a detective battle to find out each other moves before one get kills

Liar Game take theory into practise by using maths and science to a row of games where survive to the fittest is fundemental to avoid bankrupcy to the player.

Lies, manipulation, and strategy. Death Note and Liar game involves scenarios that tests our main characters' wit and intelligence to their limit. The main characters gets caught in a world of deception. Luckily, they are able to formulate their own plans to get by.

There is psychological themes involving games of dark nature. They challenge the characters mentally where only the best of the best survives.

A fairly obvious comparison. Death Note and Liar Game both deal with psychological issues and have a battle-of-wits plot line. Both male leads progress through the story and show the genius workings of their brains as they overcome each obstacle thrown in their way.

A game where you have to,decieve people in order to win money and if you fail you will be in debt... The main character is an innocent girl whi gets dragged into this game. She will need a genius in order to be saved. Luckily this kind of person appears. Just like in death this character is a genius who will amaze you with the strategies he can come up with. If you like deep tactical strategy games that will amaze you one after another, this is a perfect manga for you!

Very very similar characters between Light and Shinichi Akiyama. Both are about the battle of wits and revolves around getting rid of evildoers.

If you're into Death Note and Bloody Monday or if you like strategies, plans, detective, smart protag and psychology then Liar Game is it for you.

This story follows a scrupulously honest college student named Nao Kanzaki, who receives a package containing 100 million yen (about US$1 million) and a note that she is now a contestant in the Liar Game Tournament. 
She meets a con artist, Shinichi Akiyama, who's a major in psychology. He helps her out and becomes a contestant of Liar Game.

The main characters are intelligent & cunning. These two mangas are arguably some of the best psychological & thriller mangas available. The plot is engaging and ropes you in from the first chapter. Both the series have insanely well crafted cat & mouse games and clever xanatos gambits.

Both mangas are very similar in the huge amount of money involved in each game. And both the protagonists Tomu and Akiyama are genius level pro swindlers who makes use of psychology to trick the opponents and win. The tricks employed in both manga also constantly leaves the reader guessing and each chapter makes a person want to read more to see what happens next.

Gamble Fish and Liar Game both involve games of chance, and "cheating" by exploiting the specifics of these games. They also feature the use of psychology as part of the winning strategies, and high-stakes bets.

Both mangas have a protagonist who uses his wits to win bets in games, but while Liar Game focuses on legitimate strategies, Gamble Fish stacks the odds against the protagonist and involves cheating as a main strategy. Gamble Fish also has more characters with extreme and varied personalities and insane and unlikely situations. Gamble Fish is barely within the limits of reason. It also has more fanservice and humor, and is overall more entertaining and very recommended. I wouldn't recommend the reverse (as in recommending Liar Game to someone reading Gamble Fish) however. Gamble Fish does start off a bit slower, but quickly develops into much more. read more

The concept of games where players play with more than just pride on the line. For the main character, they are thrown into a world where every move counts. Strategy and wit are tested beyond the limit of the players. The games themselves each have their own unique dynamics with both rewards and consequences.

There is a diverse cast of characters with each of their personalities that match with their persona. Throughout both series, we learn more about these characters when they compete in these games.

Would you ever gamble? Probably not, but would you do it if you knew you would win. If you were a gneius who could always come up with a perfect plan then you probably would. These two manga are basicaly about such a sitution, the main characters are geniuses who come up with incredible tactics in order to win cool and original games. If you liked one of these manga you should give the other one a trie as well

The primary plotlines in these two manga are similar in a fundamental sense, with the protagonists of both utilising trickery and ingenious plots to win a series of high-stakes games. In both cases, these games are merely a means to an end of bringing down large establishments.

The primary draw in both cases relates to the antics of the protagonists, who possess an almost arrogant sense of confidence and the ability to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds through the use of their intellect. 

There's a fairly standard pattern of "looks like he's losing, sudden win" syndrome in both cases, but given how the two pieces are structured it's actually gratifying when the various strategies are revealed. read more

Both of these mangas have a considerable amount of gambling involves and putting your life on the line to either go deeply in debt or walk out a millionaire...  They also contain alot of physiological warfare which will doubts all of your senses.

Both Liar Game and Enigma have some mystery, psychological, and game elements, but most importantly they both have the same general feel. Enigma can be a bit goofy at times (and it also has some supernatural elements), but I still believe that most people who liked one of these manga will like the other.

Both of these deal with the darkly themed games, with psychological viewpoints. They aim to expose the bad of the human nature.

Real account has more illegal, deathly punishments while Liar game is more of an illegal shark-loan. So, in other words- Real Account: gore. Liar Game: distress (a lot)

Real Acc. has more modern themes implemented into the story, though, obviously, since it was made later than Liar Game.

Human nature is such that when pushed to a tight corner, they terminate all perceptions of fear and focus on eliminating the source of it. That is to say, they would do anything to protect their existence in the least if it were threatened. 

Liar Game has a genius whose talent is constantly pushed to the limits, while Hakomari puts common folk on the spotlight, except for a single person who displays his full intellectual prowess on Volumes 3&4.

I will mostly be focusing on the similarities between Liar game and the 3rd and 4th volumes of Hakomari since they are similar on so many levels, but I'll have you know that these similarities can be extended to whatever volume.

The overarching theme for both pieces is of course the mystery, and what's good is readers can participate in it. Red herrings are intrinsic in all mystery stories, but both have different ways of using red herrings. Hakomari is betterin its use of it, meaning all red herrings are true while in Liar Game, I would often encounter red herrings which would have been illogical backtracking from the outcome.

The plots are presented as puzzles - the characters are presented with do or die situations that they must overcome in order to return to a semblance of their normal lives. Liar game deals with it directly, its reasoning resembles pure logic while Hakomari deals with it in a more subtle yet intricate way. If it couldn't get more similar, you'll come to a point where you'll come across a game about conquest (alluding to kingdoms) and domination.

Both pieces would often feature a cunning play of deception, strategy and counter-strategy.
Liar game has a rather naive conception for its premise while Hakomari has a more down-to-earth one. Both have their shares of cliche but you can't help but disregard them because the plot offers way more.

It's not so much that the mangas are similar, but that I wanted to read a manga like Liar Game right after I read Bakuman. This was because the majority of manga that the main characters in Bakuman worked on were this type of manga, and I find it extremely fascinating.

Both have a male lead that have analytical skills, wanted to be left alone, and always help out the female lead.
The female leads have something the male lead does not have, and that is bringing people together.

Okay, maybe this recommendation is kinda miss. But trust me, they have similar theme, and it's about science. Yes, science.

If Liar Game is talking about psychology (how to deceive and pull off a trick using people's thought) then Gamaran is about how martial arts somehow can be related to logic, and if you think about it, some of the 'fighting tricks' was based on psychics (like Gama's Shidensen that takes advantage of gravitational force, etc. Check other tricks later if you read it)

Yeah, maybe its kinda weird and forced to relate these manga, but actually they really have that kind of relation.

Meitantei Conan addpermalink

Both center around dialogue-heavy explanations of complicated events. They are stories mainly about illusion and smart people explaining the rules behind those tricks.

In Detective Conan there's several crime cases where the solutions to figure out the culprit are very complex and require attention for all the hints to be gathered. In Liar Game similar style is followed but within games about deception.

Both have several different events that follow these formula with several characters being introduced at first,  then wondering and reacting to the restrictions presented and at the conclusion the smart ones finding a solution to the situation.

Why?
Did the players sign up for prize money if they win a game, and for the pits of debt should they lose, as in Liar Game? Or did they break the law and must now atone for their crimes by taking part in a psychological experiment, the winner attaining freedom, according to Dolls Code?
Either way, they will play eerie games.
Mind you, playing a zero-sum game is not a piece of cake! If one person wins, there will be a loser. And in order to guarantee that the gap between these two is never bridged, players in both games are willing to feed and suck on the trust of others, and to deceive heartlessly... read more

One is sports, other is game... but they have one big thing in common: interesting main character that is practically a con-man and uses his skills and knowledge in order to help a naive party succeed (to go to the Koshien or not ending up with humongous debt). If you enjoyed either one of them you're certainly going to like other - expecially if your thrill is getting insight in strategy, tactics, mind games and sometimes antiheroic, but necessary means.

Yuukoku no Moriarty addpermalink

Mostly I recomend this series because of it's similar atmosphere. Serious with a lot of depth and look inside the horrible minds of people. In Liar Game you get to see how far people are ready to go for their own greed and self-satisfaction, much like the nobles in Yuukoku no Moriarty. 
Another thing you might like about Liar Game is the genius of Akiyama that is on pair with L or Lelouch, or William James Moriarty.

Both stories are highly psychological, and delve deep into the darker sides of humanity. In ES, there are people with ESP powers, and one rogue person with these abilities wants to end humanity. In Liar Game, a secret illicit company contacts people and forces them to participate in a game, the prize being one million dollars at the beginning, and if the person rejects the invitation or loses the game, become indebted to the company for 1 million dollars (or whatever sum they're competing for). Contestants are given a certain amount of money, and they have to steal as much of their opponent's money as they can whilst protecting their own. read more

It comes down to Shounen VS Seinen with Uttare Daikichi! being the emotionally tied band of friends overcoming the many dangerous obsticles given to them.  With the complexity of the individual games being the only real plot difference, what Liar Game has through its undeniable logic, Uttare Daikichi! makes up for it in a more unique character-based deception style plot.

Both feature a brilliant (jerk with a heart of gold) protagonist who makes use of their observational skills and knowledge of human nature to deduce what has happened, as well as to manipulate the future outcome towards a happy ending. ROKnU is the more light-hearted of the two, with Odagiri solving minor, stand-alone mysteries, while in Liar Game, the characters are pitted against a large, scheming organisation.

Godchild doesn't explain anything and is up to much of the reader's own interpretation whereas Liar Game explains everything but still manages to leave the reader hanging.

Changing the world... Everybody wants to it, but most of us simply don't have the ability to do it. But what if you would give that ability to a genius? One of the greatest mental battles ever would occur and it would be so epic that you wouldn't be able to stop reading it. That is what these manga are about although the main characters each work on another scale (one company vs the world), both stories are equaly exciting and you will never forget about them ever again!

Both mangas are about a game in which you're given a certain delay, and you should eliminate in some way a opponent, though this will become different in Liar Game. In both of them, you see a useless main character becoming stronger. They're also both more psychological than anything else.

The art to me is quite similar and the logic behind these stories is so interesting. It will keep you gripped and wanting to know more! Not everything is what you think it appears to be. The Liar Game is not as optimistic as Shibatora though. Anyway, if you like the other you should definitely check this out.

While ultimately, Liar Game and :REverSAL fall under different genres, there are also some great similarities between the two. In both of these mangas, the main protagonist is a naive girl who gets stuck in a very sticky situation which she is expected by all her peers to resolve by harming others. However, as this goes against her very nature, she tries to solve everything by being nice to others instead, making others mock her initially yet producing unexpected results.
