They are drawn the same way. There is a strong emphasis on friendship,the characters are enjoyable, and there is alot of humor. The fights are great and they do not drag on. all and all an enjoyable series that you should check out if you like shouen.

A pretty common recc.

But it's true, although the story line is a bit different, almost every character in both series share a resemblence with each other, not only that, there are fights which can me compared with each other, and several scenes almost look the same. The art style does look a lot the same too, after Mashima's earlier work, Rave Master, his art style got more devoted (and improved) towards Oda's style/work.

Both have a lot of action and fun, however the action in One Piece is more engaging than Fairy Tail.

One Piece carries a lot of human emotion as well, something Fairy Tail has yet to do.

For those of you who are fans of One Piece, I highly recommend reading Fairy Tail. The author of Fairy Tail used to be an assitant to Oda(Author of One Piece) thus they share many characteristics, especially artwork. Both series have great fights with equally great character designs. All the great fundamentals of an epic Manga like One Piece, with a different plot and set-up, are all the ingredients you need for a good read!

It's simmilar humor, so if you think One Piece is funny you will think that Fairy Tail is too. The main characters in these two mangas are alot alike, they are both rash, violent, loud and not so smart. This makes the manga very funny.

Like in One piece, Natsu is a very powerful guy and very funny.
Either in One Piece and Fairy Tail, there are some guys (and Luffy and Natsu too) who have powers very cool.
If you like One piece, you surely love Fairy Tail.

It's got an awesome main character somewhat similar to luffy. It has a unique story arcs that will surely entertain you. It's very entertaining and will most likely keep you guessing. It can be random and odd at times (which is what keeps you guessing), but it has decent and relatable humor. The characters are all just as unique and interesting.It's a very creative and original anime that won't fail your expectations. It can be emotional and intense but that's what makes it so interesting.

This is one of the top manga out there for a good reason. don't be hesitant to go and check it out, you may even like it a lot more than you thought at first. read more

Both have really similar art styles for one. The initial main characters are really similar in personality and appearance. They also both have a lot of adventure and are about standing up for ones friends. The biggest difference is that one is about mages and one is about pirates.

Friendship and epic battles between different groups of people. That's wath these manga are al about. The main characters both belong to one of the strongest groups in the world. They embark on an epic journey with exciting battles and powers that will leave you shocked. They also contain a lot of (similar) humour.

Both series involve the bonds of friendship, with One Piece having the relationships between the Strawhat crew while Fairy Tail involving the relationships between the Fairy Tail guild.
Both have a vast amount of characters that have interesting and unique backgrounds and different environments for the characters to explore.

It's hard to like one series without liking the other. A cheerful cast of characters, most of which with supernatural abilities, going on adventures and defeating enemies through bonds with one another. Both have the power to make you laugh, make you cry, make you excited, and make you feel. My love for One Piece made loving Fairy Tail very easy!

The same artist, almost the same art. Both stories take place in the same world. Some characters (like the little dog-something plue and Heart Kurz the fashion designer) appear in both mangas. Actually I prefer Fairy Tail but Rave Master ain't so bad. I just got bored because there are so many chapters (almost 300).

Groove Adventure Rave (AKA Rave Master) is the series that Hiro Mashima wrote before Fairy Tail. Currently slightly longer than Fairy Tail, G.A.R looks less like One Piece, has a shorter anime adaptation, but still shares many themes with Fairy Tail, most prominently the strong willed main character.

So, They're really Similar indeed. Mostly by the fact that it's made by the same author, hehe (Hiro Mashima). 
The Characters are very similar, I recognize some character from Fairy Tail in Rave* Vise-Versa, Althought not being the same. They still keep they're similarities. It is highly enjoyable if you liked any of them.
The stories are different for sure, otherwise it wouldn't be enjoyable.
But if you watched one of the both and you're looking for more. Then you should certainly watch the other one.

Aside from the obvious relations between the two series (i.e. both are Hiro Mashima works), Groove Adventure Rave, or Rave Master in some regions, takes the Mashima art style and use of a wide variety of colorful characters and places them in an adventurous, comedic, and at times suspensefully dark save-the-world fantasy Fairy Tail fans would find both familiar and fun. Many concepts and characters/groups/magic designs in FT can be traced back to this series and its interesting to note how they are used both similarly and differently in each other to build the large and mysterious world Rave immerses you in.

Also, for those who like a more linear storyline while still having the branching, yet interesting, story arcs FT is popular for, Rave never loses focus on the ultimate goal the heroes strive to achieve and yet, fortunately in my opinion, still find a way to incorporate other storylines that further develop character motivations and the overall situation the world finds itself in. If you can get past the very occasional slower moments in the beginning chapters of the story (as was the similar case as FT), Groove Adventure Rave will definitely pull you into a grand adventure that by the end will leave you laughing, crying, and most of all satisfied. read more

Mainly its by the same mangaka. The art and the characters are quite similar in terms of looks and personality. One thing though is that both mangas have different plots which makes it all the more interesting. If you enjoyed Fairy Tail, you'd definitely enjoy Rave Master because they are both equally awesome in storyline and character developement ^_^

Both of them are created by the same author, and honestly, Rave is much, much, much, much better than the other. First thing first, Rave has a plot that actually fucking moves. It also has character with actual 'character'. And the best part: the girl isn't just there for your fapping purpose (don't worry tho, their boobs are still bigger than your dream).

Don't get me wrong, Rave definitely isn't the best of the bunch, it's still pretty cliche and 'shounenish', but if I can I would just pretend that Rave is the only series that Mashima worked on.

Both series also follows an adventurous tale where there's brewing rivalries, antagonism, and mysterious secrets. In terms of battle style, expect shounen action with magical mechanics.

Even the beginning, the antagonist are the other guilds, then transitions to a greater evil.

Black Clover feels more mature? than fairy tail, with less in-your-face-ecchi and keeping more of a dark-fantasy theme and characters. Fairy Tail uses more anime and cartoon-y approach.

If you are a fan of Fairy Tail then you have to check out Black Clover. Other than being a Battle shounen manga based in a world of wizards Black Clover just like fairy tail has a strong willed main character that is overpowered and fears nothing. a blast to read and an overall good manga.

Magic is present in both worlds and each character has his own magic. 
Black clover has order of knight which are similar to fairy tail's guild. 
We find groups of wizard who lives and fight together against other groups of wizard.

The atmosphere and humor are the same in both manga.
We have a main character but we evolve with all the group.

Both universes are fictive and use magical power. There are also guilds with badass and mysterious members. Both of these mangas are nekketsu shonen so the protagonists will power up and will make new friends throughout the volumes. To me, these mangas are more targeted at children/young teenagers! Been reading up to chapter 37;
 
- The main character makes you think of Natsu in a way, with his friends somewhat resembling: Lucy, Grey/Gajeel, Juvia and Happy if you look at their relationships with one another. 
- Great fight scenes. 
- Some fanservice exists in this manga but it isn't it's a big selling point or a main reason to read this manga (which is a good thing). 
- Getting stronger to protect friends is a theme that has been relevant already. 
- Sudden power up exists like in FT but not whenever it would be nice to see, only in certain situations, not random. Can't say more without spoiling.
- You could say the 'wizards' thing is replaced with 'knights'.
- Both manga are fun to read. 
- Has both comedy and serious moments. read more

Both mangas have a guy that can transform into a dragon (Natsu uses dragon slayer magic and Keel is actually a dragon in human form).  There is a cute girl who uses other characters to fight (Lucy with her spirits and Ravi with monsters).  "Blue" - the name of the water guy in "Buster Keel" is similar to Grey in Fairy Tail.  Blue and Keel don't get along, just like how Natsu and Grey argue all the time.
In both mangas, there is also a guild for information and work and levels for each job.
In Buster Keel, the protagonist are all looking for someone.  In Fairy Tail, Natsu is looking for the Dragon Igneel.
The characters and design, especially the setting, look pretty similar in both mangas, even though they are by different mangakas. read more

- Endless adventure based on the nakama powah and fights plus power upgrades.

- A group of friends with powers with similar personalities (Ali/Natsu= energetic guy plus comic relief that gets fired up when its needed; Alladin/Wendy plus Lucy=A blue haired kid that seems weak but its not and its main goal is to make friends/ and is capable of summoning a helper(Genie/key spirit); Morgiana/Erza= serious and strong, fights like hell and has a tragic past related to slavery and bullying; Sinbad/Gray: Likes to strip a lot; Kougyoku/Juvia: has a crush on the guy that likes to strip and has the power of water, also suffers from a drastic personality change when is fighting and it used to be from the "enemy side" until she met the main gang).

Yoshikawa Miki was an assistant of Mashima Hiro when he was makin' Groove Adventure Rave, so that's what  can see the evident influence that she got from him: The surprised faces, gags and the style of drawing (Macchi looks like Natsu for example)

Natsu, Gray and Erza are like the yankees in Yankee-kun to Megane-chan (Adachi, Shinagawa and Izumi), and there are someone who has common sense (Lucy & Chiba), they are in an Organitation who helps people with troubles (Fairy Tail Guild, and the Student Council) 

Both mangakas, likes to draw werid characters (for example, the sun-face of Rave Ichiya, the girlfriends of Nerima or that strange teacher who teachs Shinagawa)

Yoshikawa and Mashima are very good friends too, that's why they make Fairy Megane, a crossover of their respective series.  read more

Two of the main-story related characters, Tasha and Natsu relate with very similar characteristics and personalities, especially their ability to grow stronger through their emotions, and they both have a partner whom they share a close relationship, like a close family.

The main teams consist of a group that have known each other for a long period of time, at times being quite crude and violent with one another (Almost everytime, this is for comedic purposes), but in each group, the team are as close as family, willing to protect each other with their lives.

     [PS: If you haven't read Fairy Tail, then I would recommend that you read Witch Hunter first. It's better to start off with the serious/moderately comedy, then heading for epic/highly comedic.] read more

Same author therefore same art style and character designs. Both have the same dynamic between the main 2 characters (Lucy & Natsu in FT and Rebecca & Shiki in EZ) as well as similar themes in friendship, adventure, guilds, magic/ether, and enemies. However their story lines and backstories are very different, with EZ taking place in space, travelling to different planets, and FT on Earth. Both are very enjoyable and rewarding reads highly recommenced.

Fairy Tail was probably influenced by Saint Seiya's concept of different types of constellation and levels of them like bronze/silver/gold, while strongest of them (gold) related to zodiac signs. Both contains a lot of fighting, but Saint Seiya is muuuch more serious and don't have any ecchi elements.

Both are by the same mangaka, Hiro Mashima. The characters, comedy, and plot elements (a lot of magic) are very similar. Some places are similar between the two (Santa Claus Kingdom and Exceed Kingdom) as well. Also, obviously the art style (while Mashima-En is older stories than Fairy Tail) of both are very similar.

Both resolve around a guild.
Both male protagonists have a connection with a dragon.
Both male protagonists will do anything for their friends.
Both contain a strong red head.
Both female leads have a "cute" companion.

Overall I got very strong fairy tail vibes while reading this one, to the point I wondered if it was from the same mangaka.

Keep in mind, this recommendation was written while Gate of Nightmares has only 13 chapters.

It's all about dragons and magic in both world and in their own right. The dragons designs are both incredibly detailed and innovative in both manga. Of course, BOF is much more about dragons to Fairy tail's mage oriented story yet a dragon fan will probably enjoy both if not for plot, for these creatures.

Fairy tail is an original manga but Breath of fire IV is adapted from quite a brilliant game and one of the best in the series. Both of them have a very important sub plot being the bond between the characters, BOF is more subtle about it yet everything that occurs in it is very connected to the feelings between the characters including the 'villain' and his own encounters which is a very intriguing and might get to you of you're the emotional type. Fairy tail is all about bonds and its feel good pace is always a plus from all the dramatic series out there.

If it's about bonds and dragons then these 2 series are worth looking into. read more

They both have a connection to dragons and Dragon slayers exists in both manga, both of the mangas also contains alot of action while Dragon nest is more intense action. while Fairy Tail is more a mix of comedy and action than Dragon Nest.

While reading Enen no Shouboutai felt like I was reading FT. There were quite a lot similarities when I thought about it  
-Fire typo hot blooded Shounen MC who get unusually powered up bcoz of their "nakama" power up
-Fanservice when not needed
-Short fights
-Fast paced (at the start, FT was kindda fast paced with storyline and action)

Somehow they seem very similar, though there are principal differencies.
Similarity:
1) Ayumi is pink-hared fire mage, she is really cool (or hot you may say), though her character is fuel. She is always fired up to kick someone's ass. When she fights, she usually begins with attacking, but if something goes wrong, she never gives up and is able to figure out the winning strategy. She is very similar to Natsu, although she is girl. Also she Loves food, so as Natsu, and is slow when it comes to romance. She is stubborn as well and hard-to-stop.
2) Friendship is great and noble and means a lot for main characters. When it comes to sacrifice, they will rather live for their beloved ones, then die.
3) Kazuma is not as similar to Gray as Ayane is to Natsu, because he is wind mage, not ice, he is more adult and expirienced with girls and less perverted in that way, that is so strange about Gray, BUT boys are really very similar, if not to look at such small details.
Of course, Kaze no Stigma is more about martial arts, less ecchi and the surroundings are real, while Fairy tail has more main characters and Fiore is not at our Earth at all.
I'm really sorry for mangaka, because he died before he was able to end the story. But Kaze no Stigma is complete enough even if you want more of advantures and fun. read more

If you enjoy Fairy Tail then this story is something for you.
Both stories gives you the same kind of vibe, a happy go lucky mood with the same enjoyable characters and a plot with action and humor combined.

If you have read Fairy Tail i would recommend reading Zero too find out more about the background of how Fairy Tail come to be.

Similar themes of friendship and creating your own family. With both Team Natsu and the friends that Sally makes, I really feel bonds between each member and am drawn in by their backstories.

Double Arts addpermalink

For some reason as I read Double Arts, Fairy Tail came into my mind. The stories aren't at all similar (FT is about the random adventures of a guild of mages/ DA is about two people who have to hold hands forever as they look for a cure for a deadly disease) but I felt a similarity in them. I believe it was mostly the characters, the way they acted and reacted to things. Also the setting of them seemed to be similar and the art is somewhat. Still if you like one then you should at least check out the other one.

High School DxD addpermalink

I find these series very similar because of the MC's with dragon based powers, a lovely red hair, a weapon based user as one of the main characters and other stuff in it like demons and dragons.

The major difference is that High School DxD is a Harem and takes place in 2 words, the modern and a fantasy one and the MC's personalities, also DxD mixes other mythologies in it to like Greek and Norse.

Oumagadoki Doubutsuen addpermalink

Lucy like Hana seeks her dream job, and also alike, they both find their dream job is filled with unrealistically bizarre characters.  Both are fighting mangas, oumagadoki in a much more bizarre sense than fairy tail.  Both are also Weekly Shounen Jump mangas.

I would say that fairy tail is done better but oumagadoki is the more creative concept. Fairy tail has been making manga for a lot longer as well.  Oumagadoki was made in 2010

In bouth are team's that complite missions and bouth teams are all than normal, but aspirin goes  a littre more in extreme and comedy.
And bouth teams doesn't know how to hold back so peoples normaly hate them after complition of mission, since normaly half of town is missing.
And aspirin have worst possible personalitys for main characters.

Toriko is like a more violent and mature version of Fairy Tail. Both feature weird looking characters with even weirder characteristics. Also, both have lots of fantastic animals and are shounen battlemangas.

Although the aesthetic and narrative of these two serialisations are not that similar, they both share a strong emphasis on group battles. In Fairy Tail, battles are often between two or more guilds; whereas in Baka to Test, these are facilitated between two or more classrooms.

Ral Grad and Fairy Tail are both set in mythical world where people have magic, and they both center around a quirky guy and his rag-tag bunch. Ral Grad is shorter and a little darker, but still cute and funny.

Taking place in a fantasy world, Fairy Tail and DanMachi adapts a story where magic and mysterious powers open doors to endless wonders. Both series' main male protagonist are eager to prove themselves to others and develops a variety of relationships with other characters. There is the concept of guilds that consists of factions of adventures. Both series also adapts a decent amount of action that mixes magic, swordsmanship, and other skills. Fairy Tail follows more of story arcs while DanMachi's story development has a more progressive pace. Recommended for fans of fantasy and adventure.

a lot of the characters seem similar to each other and they both have their share of Shounen manga cliches.

Similarities
- Natsu and Dohran are fighters who care a lot about protecting their friends and uses fire-elemental powers (not to mention they even kinda look alike)
- Lucy and Anna are the fan-service female sidekicks who don't do very much and have problems that happen to their fathers (and they also kinda look alike)
- same kinds of adventurous feelings and happy to serious moods

Differences
- Dohran takes place in a fantasy-like Edo era of Japan and Fairy Tail takes place in a fantasy world
- No guilds in Dohran and it only has 2 main characters
- Dohran is more light-hearted than Natsu and is less willing to fight read more

> Both have a large character platform introducing new characters nearly every chapter.
> Both have good fighting scenes and art - where each panel is a pure joy to view and i find myself taking my time with each scene to take it all in.
> Both have simple plots constructed to deliver action upon action, heros fighting vilians and victories & defeats.
> Both have mild ecchi - big boobies, spray-painted costumes, etc

theyre both really funny shounen mangas! i love them both even though theyre a bit different if you like fairy tail KHR is a great manga to read and i think youd enjoy it a lot! teehee!

Magic and Swords, what more do you need? how about humor? Got that. How about dragon slayers? Yes, got that too, both main protagonists are referred to as 'dragon slayers', (except Rain's protagonist actually DID kill a dragon.)
