The best slow burn slice of life and romance series excel with engaging characters, relatable moments, and interesting dialogue, often accompanied with solid comedy. But in Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You, none of that exists. The personalities in here are incredibly flat, the conversations are dull, and the chemistry between the characters is one-note.
A big reason why is because Sasaki doesn’t realize that Yamada and Tayama are the same person (does he have working eyes?), which leads to repetitive jokes centered around Yamada teasing Sasaki and him getting embarrassed. Sometimes, these gags can get you to crack a smile, but generally they fall ...

SO DAMN GOOD!!! I don't usually enjoy romance manga or romance anything for that matter, because it bores me or makes me uncomfortable. So when I came across this title I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy it, but oh boy was I pleased!
When it comes to romance I guess I'm more into non gender normative dynamics and prefer shy men rather than aggressive ones, I was blushing and squealing the entire time I was reading it, and of course as a bi girl I fell in love with Tayama-san as well. I'll be so sad when this manga ends but I'm sure as hell ...

Super no Ura is a very cute manga. If you are into romcom stories, you'll probably like this one too. However, the tone is somewhat different from highschool romcoms, as others mentionned, here there is a "real life" vibe, the story revolves around the main characters who met at a supermarket and smoke at the back of the store.
There's nothing cringe, no fan service, just funny situations and a lot of denseness from the mc who'll get teased a bit. This manga isn't especially trying to reinvent the wheel, nonetheless let's say that it feels coherent enough on its own, deciding to write a ...

A very pleasant and fun slice of life manga. This manga is about an 45yr man Sasaki who works in a company and after his day's work, he goes to a supermarket to buy things where the cashier, Yamada, whose cute and bright smile makes his day worth it.
Basically its not lust nor something romantic, but Sasaki admires Yamada just like anyone admire his favourite actor or artist. Later Sasaki encounters a person named Tayama, who also works in the same supermarket. He shares a smoke with her everytime after coming from work, unaware of the fact that she herself is Yamada. An easy recommendation for anyone who even slightly likes romance. Super realistic tone with a bunch of believable and likable characters. Surprisingly stays fun and fresh while much the same continues to happen. Romance elements are very wholesome and hard to hate on. I feel like this series has weirdly high potential...
All of the characters are super realistiic, and very relatable. The dialogue is entertaining and the overarching story is fitting - while maintaining a sense of realism many romance manga frequently forget. I'm looking forward to how the characterization is done for volume 3 and onwards, this series could have a genuinely great story ...

This manga is a feeling. One of the best romance manga I've ever read in my life, I've read several, I've seen several too, but the chemistry between these two is indescribable. I literally have an emotional attachment to the characters, they are all VERY well written and developed. The author is extremely talented and delicate, the monologues are incredible.
One of the things that captivates me most about the story is that everyone is "real" and lives normal lives. And that's perfect!!! This story makes the ordinary incredible!!! A natural love story, everything happens slowly and in the time it should be.

The summary is actually perfect intro to the series. So, read that first.
Almost all chapters are just our main characters talking behind the super market while smoking. The setting is very relaxing with pretty much zero stereotypes/drama. You just have two characters talking and slowly learning more about each other. And as all characters are proper working and sensible adults, every interaction feels natural. Although we don't really follow any character out of the super market setting, we can still see that each character has their own life going on in the background. I always seem to have walked past this well-known manga about a dense ol salaryman who meets a young shopkeeper with two personalities (one the very cheery good customer service gal and two the baddass chick who smokes around the back of the store). It's very slow burn but it's pretty readable if you don't mind the less drama/action and more fluffiness & silliness. The art is not so bad either like some people have complained that it's not top notch but at the same time given the theme of the story, it's honestly fine and easy on the eyes. The manga knows very well who its characters are and what their roles are within the story. In this way, it is possible to get the maximum potential of each of them, generating moments that will undoubtedly remain recorded in the reader's memory. Although it is a romantic comedy, the manga also leans into giving some speeches about aging or issues of daily life that all humans have or will experience at some point.
