Main similarity is that both anime features living within the game and in real life. There is the idea of being a member of a community and adventure and exploring the world that the protagonists live in. Both anime are special in their own way such as the contrasting protagonists. Both have good art quality as well and if you like action and fantasy anime, these two are definitely recommendable.

Game mechanics are important as the setting of the animes. They place importance on life or death in HP, and remain as a character's lifeline throughout the whole anime as a game mechanic.

The game's nature is fantasy. Swords and magic skills are decided.

Both involve players who log into a game, but cannot logout. They have the same situation where the players have to either form alliances or be lone wolves. The main character in one anime is more of a lone wolf, while the other anime features three main characters who form their own alliance.

Log Horizon and Sword Art Online have similar base concept (stuck in a MMORPG)s, which differ just by a little spice - one is Virtual Reality MMORPG, the other is just a basic MMORPG.  
 
The main difference between them is that while Log Horizon is more serious, action-filled and mature (it goes pretty deep at parts), Sword Art Online is lightweight, more romance than action-focused, and suitable for younger audiences.

If you felt like Sword Art Online had little action and/or was too lightweight, but loved the concept, try Log Horizon
If you felt like Log Horizon was somewhat difficult to follow, and/or are asking for more romance, but want to keep the concept, try Sword Art Online.
And in the end, if you just care about the overmentioned concept of being stuck in a MMORPG, try them both at once. read more

Although Log Horizon doesn't have romantic moments like SAO but it's the almost the same concept as in millions of people being stuck in an MMORPG. Players in Log Horizon wouldn't be able to die but they have nothing to do, so chaos roams around.

Players are trapped in an MMORPG and must find the cause. In SAO 10,000 players are trapped by the GM while Log Horizon=30,000 players. Sword Art Online is an Virtual MMORPG while Log Horizon just an MMORPG. SAO: the players reacted to their situation while in LG, they are calm and orderly.  Both series use the same game mechanics such as guilds, party, raids etc. Log Horizon has magic users-mages/healers while SAO doesn't.....yet. Log Horizon main hero is a strategist mage who keeps his friends safe and depends on each other.  Kirito is a solo player who doesn't join guilds yet he does party up. Shiore also doesn't trust guilds yet.  But they party up with a small group. Log Horizon does the same too. Log Horizon doesn't have 100 floors like SAO. when a player dies in SAO, they die in real life. While in LG, there is no permanent death. They can re-spawn.  read more

Both anime are VRMMO genre.. Log Horizon is just a good anime with the same genre of SAO... SAO is somewhat horrible.. Well if you love childish romance You'll like SAO...But if you're into more action less romance... Log Horizon is the best.

A game world so real that you almost can not tell it from reality. But what would happen if such a world were to become you reality? In both of these series the main characters get stuck in the game they were playing and have to fight monsters and other creatures in order to survive. If you liked one these then you will like the other one for sure.

-Both have a male character has been trapped in a virtual reality game.
-Only SAO focuses in more of the action in fighting, and LH on solving problems within the society in the game since there are no laws.

Both of them take place inside a video game.
However, Log Horizon is more video-game like. Rather than the characters being trapped inside of virtual reality, they are trapped inside of a world that is like a game. 
The show deals a lot with both fighting and strategy.

Sword Art Online and Log Horizon are both set in a game-prison atmosphere. Both have hilarious moments and touching moments as well. Sword Art Online is produced with fantastic effects while Log Horizon is just as great with a little more comedy.

These 2 anime are about the main character got 'sucked' into the game world. While in Sword Art Online the game is a virtual reality, Log Horizon is a normal computer RPG game. 

SAO focuses more on the combat for action as the main character Kirito is a solo player and a swordsman. It also has quite a fair amount of romance and drama. In SAO, the purpose is revealed since the beginning -- to clear all 100 floors for the players to be able to log out from the game.

Meanwhile, Log Horizon focuses on other aspects like guilds, strategizing and the politics because the main character Shiroe is a strategist enchanter and the founder of guild Log Horizon. It is more on adventure filled with humor as the characters travel to different places. It is not clear how to 'quit' the game, as you cannot die in the game / can just revive, and there is no clear purpose unlike in SAO. So the players have to manage and fend of for themselves, all messed up before Shiroe steps up.

Anyway, both of them are enjoyable and fun to watch. If you like one of them, I'm sure you will like the other ^^ read more

Even though both series share the same setting not one of them fails to keep the viewer in suspense with their different approach. Sword Art Online focuses on the characters and fights, while Log Horizon's main focus is the world they live in. Despite these differences they still get the viewer to think "I wish we had a virtual reality MMO." Which I think both shows did a good job on invoking.

In both of them the characters find themselves stuck in a game and to get out of it they have to defeat it, in both there are similar concepts and words like "party", "PK's", etc... And in my personal opinion both are awesome.

These series share the same base concept, being trapped in a MMORPG.
In both they use game mechanics, for battle, making food, HP/lifebar etc. 
Other then that they do differ quite a lot.

In SAO the players mind is simply trapped in the game not being able to log out. 
But in Log Horizon the players seems to be in the world they used to play on they're computers for unknown reason.

But if you want more of the genre check out the other.

The biggest similarities between the two are that they are both based within a videogame. That's about it.

The differences are that Log Horizon leans more on dialogue-heavy topics (in the latter half of the show), while Sword Art Online leans more towards action sequences and poorly executed romance. 

In fact, Sword Art Online has everything that Log Horizon doesn't have: Good music, terrible characters, pretty art style.

MMORPG goes wrong, traps all the players inside the game and let them find everything on their own. Log Horizon is far more easygoing and more about living in the game, SAO is darker and definitely less stable plotwise. Oh, and both main characters are looked upon as kind of villains, too, despite not really being one.

In both anime, people get trapped in a virtual reality RPG and have to play the rules of the game to survive. Also the main character of both series is pretty sharp when it matters.

Both consist of people stuck in an online gaming world and a reason they need to get out of it. However, the characters react differently in each of the series, in which the characters in Log Horizon react with less concern.

Virtual reality-style MMORPG games where people cannot leave the game and must adapt to their new world. Both main characters dislike being in guilds for different reasons. They both have a lot of romance which goes along with the action/adventure themes.

Well the plot are the same where the characters are stuck in a game/ apocalypse the only difference is the characters.. Overall both are good Anime..

If you like SAO, i would fully recommend Log Horizon. They both take place in the virtual world, but the story line is different. They may seem similar at first, but a lot of people would agree with me they like Log Horizon more. The main difference between the two that people would recognize is that the difference lies within the concept of the game. Instead of a fight for survival, it is a game that makes you have to complete the story. SAO has different players that work to help others, but Log Horizon has clans and su- classes that promotes the game. The sub-classes help with choosing the people they want for their part/guild. As for me I would personally rank this above SAO because of numerous reasons.   read more

Both animes is about being trapped in a VR enviorment(Virtual Reality), in my opinion I think this anime will be very much like SAO. It has the same style and I think that Log Horizon is a bit of a copy of SAO so I think that the both of them will be a lot like each other, some things will be different of course and one of those is that Log Horizon will have magic in it where as SAO didn't have.

They look similar and I think that they will feel similar when watching it. If you liked SAO I think you'll like this as well. And vice versa.

Though because this has not aired yet it is hard to write a recomendation. But I do think that you will enjoy both animes. read more

If you enjoyed Log Horizon, then look no further, you found another good series to pull your interest in. In this anime, you get another group of characters trapped in an MMORPG. No logging out until they figured out what to do. They fight monsters, get items, level up, different guilds too. Overall, this anime has some good dynamic characters that you will love to see grow.

Both animes are epic if you like the VR-like game. I recommend both to watch, I have rated both 10/10 already. I rewatched SAO 3 times already and read the Light Novels. 

Though both animes are similar in various things they also have things which aren't in common, Sword Art Online's main character is OP because of his previous experiences with VR-games and his beta-participation of SAO. While Log Horizon's main character is a normal gamer, not op.

Main similarity of these two anime are that players are trapped in game in MMORPG.
In both anime protagonists tries to accept the virtual game and tries to live in it. Both are high quality action and fantasy anime with amazing art/animation.

Both are about large group of people getting trapped inside a game. Both MC are trying to change the world inside the game while one is trying to escape and the other one to rebuild the world.

Both are set within a world were the gamers are trapped within the games world as well as both protraying there life and how they live it within the world. 

But the difference is that SAO focuses more on how the players are going to escape from the world as well as the romances formed and the impact of player deaths affacting there real bodies, which made me feel a sense of attachment towards cetain characters in which when they died made me cry and break down in tears quite a few times. (no spoliers intended, sorry this is my first try writing one of these :(   ).

Where as log horizon focuses more on the how there lifestyle is within the world as well as the politics that take place as which left we waiting to see what challenges the character would be facing.

In SAO and LOG, main characters are stuck in a vrmmorpg and try to find their way out. I think LOG is better because they are more focused on game than SAO, SAO went for romance after 3 episodes. But both of this anime are good and similar, i love both of them.

I'm sure this has been done lots of times, but yeah, both anime are about people getting trapped in a video game they were playing. Instead of talking about that, I'll try to highlight some of the key differences.

In SAO, there is no doubt that the characters are indeed in a video game, there is a scientific explanation as to how they are trapped there, and there is a definite way to escape. In Log Horizon, on the other hand, it seems as if the characters were just magically transported into the game. No explanation, no way out, nothing.

This is ironic, because Log Horizon has more gaming elements than SAO. The Log Horizon fight scenes are done in the same way one might fight in an actual MMORPG. SAO's fight scenes are more based on action and badassery. I'm not saying either one is better or worse than the other, they're just different.

Log Horizon is probably a little more light-hearted than SAO, but that's not to say Log Horizon doesn't have its serious moments, nor to say that SAO doesn't have its light-hearted moments. I personally like the romance in SAO better than Log Horizon, but that's just my opinion.

I highly recommend both as great anime for both gamers and anime fans alike. read more

- Shiroe is a bit like Kirito, although Kirito uses more of combat and Shiroe uses tactics.

Each anime focuses on the disturbing premise of being trapped in a video game. Thus begins the journey of the players to seek out ways to return back to the reality. (leaving/finishing the game so to speak) Both anime attempt to explore reality, questioning what is real? Should the values of what existed in reality hold any meaning in this virtual reality? Is it only a game? Does killing a player matter since it's only a game? Both build a society to impose judgement for such values. These societies can be in the form of guilds and explores the interactions between them. 

If you like one, you may like the other, although there are a few differences to consider. Log Horizon centralizes around one guild that rises to power, it also builds upon the relationships of the guilds and gamers. Sword Art Online is centralized around predominately the male MC and his relationship with the female MC, thus the world building and themes are a little more restrictive on a grander scale. Another glaring difference is the pacing, Sword Art Online has many inconvenient time skips and Log Horizon can be very slow to move the plot and its story at a reasonable pace.

Both exhibit overuse of "Kawaii" moments that may take away from the experience for the story-driven audience, something to be prepared for, as both can take themselves to seriously and yet too carefree in the next scene/episode.    read more

Very Similar to Log Horizon. Both are MMO games. I think SAO is much more balanced in terms of characters, action and romance. But Log Horizon is also a very good anime,  from the looks of things, it would get better and better as the series progresses.

Same general story line, there a bunch of people trapped in some game, and starts to become much more than just a game. It starts to become there life. In both story's they realize that death, even if its a game has some serious consequences.  

Art style is basically the same and looks really good.

Fighting! Survival! and lastly Digital world? These are things that makes these animes so interesting, the cybergenre of the anime twists the plot to something that we can somewhat relate to in our ordinary irl lives. In the anime we follow the main characters struggle to reach the top and to watch their personalities and background slowly uncover during the contionus episiodes that we all can't get enough of...

Similar in the dynamic that the characters are stuck in an online game, but the key difference is the nature of deaths in the game. Both Character must deal with their cool and calculating personalities and struggle to make this new world their homes. Both of these shows were not put down till all the episodes ran out. They are both very enjoyable in their own unique ways.

The setting and premise for both shows are very similar however whilst the main point of SAO is escaping the game in Log Horizon they try adapting to the game instead as they try to build a community amongst those trapped inside. Log Horizon focuses more on tactical fighting rather than pure action and i personally feel it was better written and included characters the audience could both engage with and like better than the characters in SAO.

Similarities:
- Both shows are about people trapped in a game which has become a new reality to them.
- The MCs are veteran gamers. 
- Both Shiroe and Kirito initially refuse to join a guild, but end up becoming part of one.
- In both shows, there are multiple female characters who have romantic feelings towards the MC.
- Both MCs have a bad reputation, although they aren't actually evil or bad people.
- There are guilds that are consisted of PK(Player Kill)ers.

Differences:
- Shiroe is a tactician who stands at the back and assists his allies with his enchanter skills, while Kirito is a swordsman who fights in frontline.
- There are political and economical aspects in Log Horizon. In the other hand, SAO features romance.
- Shiroe forms a new guild to make a home for his friends, but Kirito was forced to join one after losing a duel.
- Shiroe has more friends and allies compared to Kirito.
- The characters of SAO worry about their bodies in the real world, but there is no mention about that in Log Horizon.
- Characters of Log Horizon are  to revived upon death, but death in the game equals death in reality in SAO. read more

People who like Sword Art Online will love Log Horizon and vice versa! They are very similar in concept, but have noticeable differences. One concentrates mainly on survival while the other is more about the people adapting to the virtual world and making it better.

Both of these shows revolve around a group of people who are trapped inside of an online role playing game.  If you're a fan of the genre or just a fan of MMO gaming, you will likely enjoy both of these series.  Sword Art Online focuses more on dramatic elements as the players struggle to either accept or escape their predicament, while Log Horizon is more about people trying to learn how to live in their new reality.

The story between these two shows is very similar to each other. In both shows they get stuck in a virtual game the same story right? No, In Log horizon it's not a battle of surviving they revive and don't die in real world. Second in Log Horizon their goal isn't getting out of the game it's to investigate the new world they're living in unlike like SAO which seems to me weak in terms of story. Also there is less Harem here sure it contains some harem but not like SAO. finally they're in a RPG game right? so where is the rpg part in the whole fighting scenes in the show? In Log Horizon you will see a lot of tactics, strategies and team work unlike super sugoi undefeated ultimate immortal Kirito in SAO. to be fair one of the few things that SAO did better than Log Horizon is fight scenes it's not that much exciting in Log horizon and the other one is romance. If you're looking for romance you will be satisfied here.(by romance I mean Kirito's relationship with Asuna not the other girls that loves him one direction only).
Bottom line if you like the concept behind SAO watch Log horizon it does everything SAO did wrong ten times better. read more

Both anime have the same setting, a group of people trapped inside of a video game, however, Log Horizon doesn't really seem to have an end to the game portion like SAO does, and thus focuses more on the actual mechanics of the world and how the 'players' will function than just the romantic relationships between the characters.

Very similar in the fact that they are stuck in the game. Howeer Log Horizon lacks the romance of SAO, however makes up for it in comedy.

Log Horizon and Sword Art Online are both Anime about players being stuck inside of an MMO setting. However, SAO is more about the character's struggle with permanent death, Log Horizon's plot is more about the characters adapting to their new environment.

Log Horizon clearly incorporates more aspects of the MMO game genre, as opposed to Sword Art Online.

Both anime are vastly different from each other, but have the same premise.

-In both anime they have the same general idea the characters are in a game, unable to log out of the virtual game they have to fight and survive in order to reach their freedom. 

 -Both have quiet a bit of action going on depending on your opinion of what is a lot and minimal some sword and magic, they must fight other people stuck in the game but also creatures.

Log Horizon is infamous for 'ripping off' from SAO's storyline, although they are very different in essence. Thus, the main similarity between both series, is that they share the idea that people are trapped in a video game. Although Sword Art Online focuses more on the act of playing in an MMORPG, Log Horizon focuses more on the politics in this games' world.

Its the same concept of being trapped in a game but with two different outcomes. Log Horizon is based on politics / how to entertain oneself, sword art is survival. Log Horizon is slower because it has more thinking and detailed parts to it while sword art is very action based and fast paced. Both are quite enjoyable. Also I have been told that .hack is the precedent for series like these and Accel World is like if the main character in Sword art grew up and the future story. Oh look 3 recommendations in one.

Both anime are about a game in an online server. Though the storylines are totally different, a few aspects are quite similar, like: there is no way out. In sword art online there seems to be no logout button. In log horizon they don't even know how they got in their world, let alone mentioning how to get out of it. Through the episodes they get to know their world better, along with new potential ways out. Both main characters are solo-players at the beginning of the story, but eventually they learn that the only way to survive here is to join, or make a guild. Kirito and Shiro are both powerful but mysterious players due to lots of experience before their situation broke loose. This gives them an advantage compared to other players, yet they also struggle with a lack of information or new additions. read more

Sword Art Online(SAO) and Log Horizon both take place in a game setting and that's pretty much where the similarities end. SAO focuses on the action side of MMORPG's while Log Horizon focuses on the economy and political aspects of being stuck in a virtual world. I prefer Log Horizon due to the way it approaches the situation. The characters try to adapt to the game and are not constantly thinking of ways to get out. So if you like SAO you are guaranteed to enjoy Log Horizon.

Log horizon represents RPG games in general far better than Sword Art Online. My friend and i both agree that Akatsuki is superior and shiro is definitely better than Kirito.....by far. Akatsuki stays badass...Asuna loses it part way through, shame.

They are both about virtual gaming worlds.
Main similarity is that both anime features living within the game and in real life. There is the idea of being a member of a community and adventure and exploring the world that the protagonists live in. Both anime are special in their own way such as the contrasting protagonists. Both have good art quality as well and if you like action and fantasy anime, these two are definitely recommendable.

Both series take place in a MMORPG game,  they both get trapped in the video game world even though each by a different reason.  The main characters share similar traits one that they are outstanding players and they are trying to find a way out of the world.  Both being solo player, not wanting to join guilds for different reasons.  Both have their fair share of action though Log Horizon focuses more on the action than Sword Art Online which is a little more "Romantic, i guess?"

Very similar concept.  Players of a game are suddenly taken to the new world and now must find their way back.  The series stand as a nice contrast to each other.  SAO is more action-oriented while Log Horizon is more plot-oriented.

While in Sword Art Online they leave the game quickly, Log Horizon goes into depth about struggling to survive and people's lives inside the game. 
Log Horizon, much like Sword Art Online  is action-packed with lots of fights, but it goes into more depth about how it is like an mmorpg.

- Both shows go into the various social structures built by an MMOs player base and they discuss the different play styles that individuals adapt. 
- In both anime there´re MMORPG players who discover themselves trapped in a fantasy game and they can`t "log out". The only difference is that in Log Horizon you'll respawn when you die.

If you liked either one of these animes you would like the other because they are both based on a video game. Although SAO has more Fanservice than Log Horizon, there is no denying that Log Horizon returns the lack of FS with a very deep and detailed plot!

If you're looking for Strong and Smart Male Lead that is stuck in a game and looking for a way out then this fits the criteria.

Both anime is about Sword/Magic/Dungeons and Adventure, typically knows as RPG
Both anime shares the same setting and feels the same way as they both are based on MMORPG style of game.

If you liked the MMO aspect of SAO you will love Log horizon, thought it does not have as much romance, and story wise, it's really not the same thing. LogH is way more strategic and everything is well explained.

In both these animes you follow people that was trapped inside an MMO. In my opinion Log Horizon is better than Sword Art Online, mostly because of the way they tell the story. But I love the idea behind both these animes. I have seen SAO three times and Log Horizon twice, I will probably watch Log Horizon at least one more time.

Log Horizon may be as closest as you can get to Sword Art Online if ever you wanted more. Log Horizon's story take place when players of Elder Tales, an MMORPG game in which the anime is based on, are suddenly transported inside the game. Oblivious to the rules and events of the virtual world, they start to discover that some aspects of the game don't apply to themselves the same way when they are playing a character. And so, just like Sword Art Online, they venture out, seeking a way to leave the world they are trapped in.

Continue to prove that most powerful weapons is breaking the story. Sometime it's the "game rules", sometimes is the "glasses". (SAO and Log Horizon respectively)

Both have good Soundtrack/BGM and OP. 
But SAO BGM and OP is good enough that it's better without the anime. I listen to SAO OST before getting into anime and is it was epic. No opinion on OP.
Log Horizon OP song is so good it doesn't need or possibly can't have a better OP song. BGM of SAO is better, but you will get sick after a few days or weeks after overdosing. Not the case with Log Horizon BGM *and OP* where overdosing ceiling is higher.

I rated Log 10/10 because I just can't stop watching it. I can't explain why 10/10 but 9/10 is too low. Maybe 9.5 9.7?
SAO is 2/10 is because I 90% of the time I forget the whole setting. So much for excepting it to be a "Video Game". Also the missing chapter 16.5, like why not lol it's already a mess. 2/10 out of respect for everyone behind the BGM and Yuki Kajiura for proving quality BGM for many other of my top anime|OST such as Fate series  (Ufotable) Kara no Kyoukai and Madoka Magica. read more

There are still obvious love relationships within the story however they never progress beyond simple I have a crush on you type thing.

Both anime mainly features getting trapped within a game and a protagonist who cant find a place for himself. Both protagonist have their own qualities which make them similar yet different from each other. Both story lines have a harem scenario but SAO dives more towards the romance genre if you like fantasy and action genre both are recommended.

Log Horizon may start off quite weird but it gets better, trust me
First I'll describe what they have in common
They are both set in a virtual world, Both worlds have stats and a class system, the main characters both don't want to join a guild. And some of the people doesn't want to fight so they take on jobs merchant jobs. Also, there are large-scale raids to kill bosses
Then what does Log Horizon hold?
First of all, don't think it's like SAO, it has a completely different storyline and set up.
In this anime, the main character made a guild instead of being forced to join one. In Log horizon the main character is more of a supporting and strategist role than and attacker. In this world you can't die, you can respawn as many times as you like but each time with a cost(I won't tell you because I don't want to spoil it). And also in this world, there isn't teleport gates so you have to travel around in your own way also the world is based on Earth, only half it's size. And the boss fights in this Anime is not to advance to the next level but to gather resources and gear to support your guild and your party. And the VRMMORPG game is made better than SAO, with new senses (like in food, the environment and basically everything)classes and races. Also, Log Horizon leans more on the comedy and strategy side than action, but there's still tons of action.

At first glance, Log Horizon is just another anime that can easily be perceived as a carbon copy of Sword Art Online. However, after I watched just a couple of episodes, it is actually distinct from SAO. Log Horizon has a very similar premise, but the characters are different, and the fights are all based on strategies. It is also slower paced and none of the characters are overpowered.

They are both set in a game enviroment and unable to log out. They also both have skills and different weapon types (and shipping). But Log Horizon has got different classes and species so there is a bit more diversity and they can respawn (but they try to avoid it).

These two isekai animes are literally the same thing, so if you enjoyed SAO then I think you would really love Log Horizon and probably would really prefer it. Both animes follows your generic fantasy game having the virtual reality aspect. The characters in both of the animes find themselves trapped in the game with no way out. The difference is, SAO ends up explaining why this has all happened very early on making the plot a little plain and boring. However in Log Horizon doesn't do this creating some sort of mysterious plot as to why this has happened so the audience can be in the same clueless situation as the characters in the anime.   read more

Both are about the main character getting trapped in a video game along with other people from the real world, the only main differences are; in log horizon the MC has friends he had before they got trapped, unlike in SAO where Kirito had to make friends in the game. Log horizon is less dark, the main feature that makes it less dramatic and way less suspenseful than SAO is the fact that if a character from log horizon dies in the game they can just respawn and will only lose a couple assets. In my opinion the whole respawning thing makes log horizon super boring compared to SAO where characters were legit dying. Unlike in SAO where the user interface was barely shown in the show, in log horizon the are constantly bringing it up and it's more conspicuous compared to the one in SAO, the characters from log horizon rely on the interface too much and in my opinion it's less immerseful making the situation of being trapped in the game's world less serious. Watching log horizon will surely make you realize how good SAO actually is. read more

Similar to Sword Art Online but with better storytelling, better world-building, and it's catered towards a more mature audience, and therefore less cringy and less frequent isekai stereotypes. If you are a big fan of MMORPG games you will find the anime much more enjoyable and appreciate its storytelling.

SAO and Log Horizon comparisons are basically unavoidable, I personally didn't mind the Aincrad arc of SAO and liked the flashy action, but I wish it went more in detail on the MMO side rather then fully riding on the fantasy otherworld aspect.

If you wish SAO went more into the MMO side of things, you'll probably end up loving Log Horizon.

These 2 anime has similar situation in which both the protagonist and others are stuck in a rpg game with no knowledge on returning to the real world. However, in Overlord the main protagonist is the only current known player who's stuck while in log horizon many players who were logged on at the time was transported into the game. Also, both protagonist are overpowered.

The difference between these anime are the plots. While in overlord the main protagonist decided to create a new world in the game because he has no reason to return to the reality for he has no friends nor family and reason to continue the boring life. But in Log horizon, while trying to find a way back to reality he must also deal with the atmosphere of the place and create a city that binds player with law so none can abuse the no rule area such as imprisonment and pvp, Also he has to deal with the original people of the land and any monsters that threatens the community.

So if you enjoy one, you'll probably enjoy the other. read more

It has intense and intriguing moments like log horizon does in the first few episodes with Moderate graphics.

The main character FOR log horizon became overpowered  during the mid episode of the entire season, 
FOR  overlord the main char is already overpowered in the very beginning and usually shove his authority among enemies and comrade .

Log Horizon and Overlord are both world building and story driven shows set in a fantasy setting.

Log Horizon is the story of players being trapped in a game after a new expansion launched. We follow our main characters as they face PvE and PvP problems which arise. This show focuses on the world and its politics with a nice follow up of traditional MMORPG style action. Log Horizon mainly revolves around the plot of being stuck in a game but not knowing when/how they will get out, and focuses on making living in the game bearable by being the heroes/adventurers.

Overlord is the story of our main character being the last remaining active player of his guild. He wanted to experience the game until its end, but when the game supposedly shuts down he does not find himself back in his world but in a world similar to that of the MMORPG he played. Same concept about being stuck in a RPG world. However what these two does is creating an economy and a leading world so they can keep the world going. These have low focus and how to get out and has alot to do with adapting to their new setting. They're both very strategical anime and is heavy-dialouge anime which doesn't focus on action that much. What i do think these anime series could have evolved was giving out a plotline which they'd follow instead of taking irrelevant side quest. However what Log Horizon did better was in a way or two using these side quest to create something for the plotline however Overlord used these merely as a plot tool and didn't really develop much on anything at all. Overlord didn't have a deep storyline and characters as Log Horizon which is something you might consider for a simple watch, however if you're looking to expand on a storyline i'd highly recommend Log Horizon. Remember that Log Horizon has a seriously slow plot line while Overlord has a fast paced plotline since it is quite rushed, which might give you some quick watch entertaintment. Overlord is rather darkly theme, but lightens up every once in a while. Log Horizon focuses on a sort of political complication, and explains things in extraordinary detail. Overlord will have, or, depending on the time, has, 13 episodes. Log Horizon has 50.

Log Horizon is more viewer-friendly, and as such is acceptable for viewers around 13 years old. Overlord is mainly for people around 18-30, as it includes gore and slightly lewd activities. Both are great anime, and both are recommendable to most anime fans. Both have a rather slow beginning, as well.

Should you be interested in a more romantic, adventurous and just series,  then watch Log Horizon. Should you be interested in a more serious series, full of action, ferocity and astonishment, then watch Overlord.

If you are the type of person that prefers to marathon, then Overlord is the better option. read more

Both share the concept of life inside a game. The main characters of both shows are intelligent, scheming and strong. Shiroe mainly focuses on outwitting his opponents while Momonga will often defeat his opponents in battle.

The main difference is the overarching plot of the shows: Log Horizon focuses on the daily lives and adventures of the characters as they try to find a way out of the game. Overlord's protagonist Momonga, on the other hand, completely drops the idea of escaping and focuses on world domination within the game.

Both have the same situation where the MC got trapped in the game, the differences were, in LH there are multiple MC that were involve in the anime, while in Overlord its only one MC who is involved in the anime.

Stuck in a game world? And you just happen to be a powerful, almost villainous seeming, character in the game? Well it's bound to lead to interesting outcomes right :D

The animes are very similar in terms of atmosphere and dynamics and it's rather clear from three episodes in that enjoying one of these means you definitely need to watch the other!

Log Horizon and Overlord are both set inside a game they can't escape from, both have aspects of action,adventure,magic and fantasy that are very entertaining,they h they both have great animation but there age ratings differ as Log horizon is PG 13 and overlord is R 17 

The anime's main characters are both inside a guild or group and are the leaders of the group,the design of the characters are very different,the main characters  go on different adventures but you can enjoy both them the same way as well as them both being interesting and enjoyable characters.

In my opinion Overlord is way more enjoyable but it only lasted 12 episodes and log horizon has 25 episodes and another season meaning a bit more filler compared to overlord which gets straight to the point and is very fast paced. read more

Overlord is an action-adventure-game anime that revolves around a player, under the username of Momonga, is left behind inside the game after it was supposed to close. Momonga, without his friends, waited out the closing of the gaming only to find himself stuck in it afterwards. He then started to investigate on the situation and seek answers. Just like Shiroe as a strategist, Momonga shares his own experience and skill in the field of combat that he utilized well in order to find what he is looking for.

Both MC's in these anime are overpowered magic casters who are very good at coming up with strategic battle plans. They also do a good job of exploring how powerful world-class magic and super-tier magic can be, and the potential it has to shape the world. If you enjoy the MMORPG genre, I would definitely recommend giving these a shot!

I think the popular response to Log Horizon is to call it similar to SAO. However, I think there is a deeper similarity between Log Horizon and Overlord. Both put more of an emphasis on the actual videogame mechanics of the world around them, at least from the perspective of the protagonists. Likewise, both are not as concerned with finding an escape from the videogame worlds; rather, they seek ways to thrive within those worlds. I have only seen S1 of Overlord, so I can't speak for the rest of it, but if you enjoyed either S1 of Overlord or Log Horizon, then the other is a good show to watch for a similar vibe. read more

Trapped in the virtual world beyond imaginations, both series focus on an adventurous setting involving a group of characters as they venture on to the unknown. There is a lot of humor from both series with its comedic dialogues, character interactions, and game concepts themselves. The main male characters have somewhat of similar personalities being cunning, intelligent, and capable leader. Both of these anime have incredibly intelligent protagonists that use their brains rather than strength to discretely manipulate their respective new worlds to their choosing. Both shows take place in fantasy setting, and have a very light atmosphere, as opposed to a dark and gritty tone. The conflicts in these shows rely on wit and strategy, rather than brute force, allowing for thoses oh-so-satisfying scenes in which the protagonist reveals their brilliant sceme to a defeated villian. The dialogue in both is phenomenal, 
particularly with the speeches given the main characters throughout the series, which are written and acted brilliantly.
In short, both shows create a wonderful fantasy world with rich lore, and seamlessly mesh serious circumstances with ligh-hearted humor to keep the atmosphere feeling fun and carefree overall.

On their journey , they make friends  which they helped or defeated !

While pacing feels very different (Log Horizon relies on a slow buildup to flesh out its world and characters, NGNL moves at breakneck speed), the core aspects are similar: light-hearted tone, emphasis on overcoming challenges by strategizing and planning ahead, gaming-oriented lore and rules. 
Both are highly recommended if you enjoy tactics and brains over brawn types of shows.

Adventure, action and fantasy. These two anime excelled in these three aspect which makes Hai to Gensou no Grimgar as enjoyable as an anime to watch when compared to Log Horizon. 

In both anime, the 'players' are involuntarily brought to a world where you would expect of a typical RPG Fantasy game, in a very typical anime. The 'players' adapt to the world they are trapped in, while searching for ways to escape the very one that they were brought into. 

What is different in Hai to Gensou no Grimgar is the approach it takes to the otherwise cliched genre of anime, which has a little serious, realistic and gloomy vibes to it. Not the kind you would expect of a fantasy anime. read more

Similar 'trapped in a fantasy game' concepts with a focus on the characters and world rather than action/adventure, where most of the main characters are all part of a guild or party. Both have elements of memory loss as well. There is one very major difference which is also a huge spoiler to LH, which affects both stories quite a bit. Basically, the plots are extremely different, but the settings, themes, and characters are almost identical.

The two series have a very similar feeling to each other. Both series feature groups of thoughtful people trying to survive in what is believed to be a video game.

Log Horizon focuses more on politics and world order. The protagonists are also a very strong and respected in the community. Log Horizon also has a larger number of featured characters. 

Grimgar is mostly about group survival, not just in fighting, but also in being able to afford their life. The protagonists struggle to scrape by because they are pretty weak. Grimgar also has more detailed art.

Both approach the "trapped in a video game/fantasy world" story type from a slightly different angle. While they certainly have combat scenes, they focus much more on the other aspects of being in that kind of situation. Dealing with living and adapting to this new world, the political aspect of things, forming stronger character bonds. Also neither of them focus very much on "escaping" from the world they're in either.

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar and Log Horizon have primarily a common feature: the Setting, a familiar fantasy RPG world. Both parties were send to an fantasy world. Caught up in the adventure how to handle everydayness. Both shows put the focus a little more on the Characters and their interaction so that they become really tangible and you  increasingly identify with the characters.
Hai to Gensou no Grimgar does a little different by making no references to whether it is a video game or not. Hai to Gensou no Grimgar convinces with background art in impressionistic style that evokes reminiscent of Paul Cézanne's paintings.
On the other hand does Log Horizon leave a greater impression in relation to the character development and their interaction. Not only due to twice as much episodes the cast explores more deeply the fantasy world, they are also inspired by the will to return.

Sorry, to me the headline is upside down. In my opinion this recommendation should be, if you liked Hai to Gensou no Grimgar you will enjoy Log Horizon even more. But both shows are worth seeing although (IMO) Log Horizon just is a little better. read more

These are very serious isekai focused on the main character's thoughts and feelings throughout the whole series. Whereas Log Horizon is more focused on the strategy, Hai to Gensou no Grimgar is more focused on all the characters' feelings and relationship throughout very difficult times. You will not expect much action from neither of these titles, as the engaging dialogues will make up for the 'action'. The action is there, but it isn't dragged out more than necessary. Log Horizon is a 50/50 cross between Spice and Wolf and Sword Art Online. You've got the MMO world of SAO replacing the combat-heavy story with the scheme-heavy story of SaW.

It's a great mix.

Log Horizon and Ookami to Koushinryou are anime series that takes place in a fantasy world. In their worlds, there are mystical creatures and supernatural phenomenons.

Surprisingly enough, both series explores the dynamics of politics/economics as one of its themes. 

Both series possesses great humor with its dialogues, character interactions, and mechanics that are explained thoroughly as their stories progresses. The main male protagonists are also wise and forms an interesting relationship with the female protagonist. There is also a sense of adventure as both series conveys its fantasy theme at their finest.

The first thing to run through one's mind after hearing Log Horizon's setting is " real people stuck inside the virtual reality of an MMORPG", is SAO clone. Contrary to this and for the joy of all people out there, this couldn't be further from the truth.

The anime which Log Horizon shares the greatest resemblance to is actually Spice and Wolf. The medieval/fantasy world and the emphasis placed on economics/ politics mirror each other in these anime. 

If you're looking for nonstop actions then neither Log Horizon or Spice and Wolf are for you, but if you enjoy an intellectual trip through a fantastical medieval setting they are right up your alley. read more

Both Spice and Wolf and Log Horizon are anime for people who are willing to patiently listen. There isn't a whole lot of action in either and the most important thing in both is the dialogue. If you liked some of the politics and Shiroe's dialogue in Log Horizon, then you'll definitely like the dialogue and topics addressed in Spice and Wolf. If you want more simple things, like a virtual world with video game like qualities, then I wouldn't recommend Spice and Wolf, since it's far from that. To be honest, Log Horizon is more similar to Spice and Wolf than it is to SAO, since both Log Horizon and Spice and Wolf do not revolve around combat and have the same feel when it comes to dialogue. read more

Both anime have amazing world building. Spice & Wolf does this for a world very similar to our own back in medieval days but some fantastical creatures. Log Horizon Creates a very believable world using an MMO, and since the author was a avid MMO player himself, it is a world that actually feels like an MMO.

Accel World and Log Horizon takes place in a virtual realm where there's fantasy elements such as avatars and weapons to be utilized for combat. The main male protagonist becomes part of that world along with other characters.

There is combat scenarios that relies on strategy both mentally and physically. The battles themselves are presented in a shounen-like way with quick movements, thinking, and brutality. Surprisingly enough, both series' OST has a catchy tone that matches the battle phases of duels/conquests.

There is also comedy with a dose of cuteness involving some of the characters and their interactions.

what really hit me was the fact both aren't about one man army protagonist its the other way around it isn't' how to command and support others to win. so basically strategic fighting however since i have only viewed about 6 this is all i can offer in the future i hope to write more in detail so start watching 
plus obviously code geass is better but this isn't too bad either :)

Both Log Horizon and Code Geass have main characters who are geniuses though unlike Lelouch and Light, Shiroe doesn't have any special power like geass or a death note and instead has to use his own wits and Cunningness to achieve the goals he's set.

Okay, let's see. While there is the obvious similarity that both animes feature a male MC who uses tactics to his advantage, they have other similarities, especially in characters.
All the characters in both shows are quite fleshed out and all feel important to the story (well... Clovis...), and even the characters you dislike at first you will find a hard time disliking (Well... Clovis...)
In another sense, the pacing is quite similar, with most episodes having some major relevance to the plot.
Only major difference is that CG is MUCH more full on that Log Horizon. If you can't handle lot's of blood and death, then you should not jump from LH to CG. Otherwise, go for it. read more

I know, I know, what the fudge ripple am I thinking? But check this out: we've got politics, civil disorder, the art and strategy of warfare, and the establishment and division of power. The two protagonists, Lelouch and Shiroe, are both geniuses who stay in the background, orchestrating elaborate plans to lead their followers. Both really fun to watch unfold.

While, at first glance you would think, how is "Log Horizon," which features characters trapped in a game world, to be similar to "Code Geass." First and foremost, the main characters are similar. Lelouch, infamous for his intellectual power, conquers the world with the gift of "geass," and his mind. While Shiroe, the main character of "Log Horizon," doesn't have this kind of gift, he has the skills acquired from the MMO, because, remember, it's not your regular world, also, like LuLu, he is also very strategic, able to plan out a battle to the detail. In this respect, people looking for an anime similar to Code Geass have already found a suitable candidate ( as very intellectual characters are somewhat rare in good anime ). With all that said, on to the next comparison. Lelouch is in charge of a military/rebel squad(s). Shiroe, as the tactician in the MMO, also takes the role of leader because of his aforementioned ability to not only predict the outcome, but also the steps leading to it. The next sentence contains slight spoilers, I'm putting this in a sentence because people tend to read on past a spoiler warning unconsciously. Shiroe eventually forms the Round Table, this is where the anime performs in a more political role. 

Log Horizon is similar to Code Geass in both protagonist and story ( in more than a few ways ). Log Horizon has an undeniably lighter tone but will also make you shed tears just the same. read more

It's all in the strategies. Two masterminds who are trying to establish order in their respective worlds. But unlike Log Horizon, Code Geass gets even better in season 2.

Similarities:
-Similar Smart Gamer MC's.
-Cunning, strategic, and a bit of a troll.
-Both have gaming aspects.

Differences:
-LH focuses on in-game politics and world building
-QZGS does not have the "trapped in a virtual game" aspect so it's "politics" are purely RL ones, mostly due to the competitive spirit of other gaming clubs.
-LH is Japanese while QZGS is Chinese.
-The art is very different. One is more 2D, the other has CGI and looks more like something from Fate Stay verse.

The main characters are both smart/strategic, very experienced, and are highly respected in their respective worlds. Other similarities include the use of gaming terms, guilds, and great action scenes. Quan Zhi's battles are far more intense, though.

People who enjoy playing MMOs will surely find them interesting.

Its all about the game. The main characters are positive, staying strong in any dire situations. The romance was so-so, but the action was good.

The concept of overpowered character/former pro in a video game that starts from the beginning is common in both (under different forms though). 
If you've liked the concept of overpowerness than you'll love log horizon as well!

Have you already pictured yourself being trapped in a game ? This is what's Log Horizon is about. The story of Quanzhi Gaoshou maybe be really different and happening in 100% real world, I can't help thinking these two anime about video games managed to deal with the gameplay very well. There are no unlikely and coming-from-nowhere abilities, it is just about how players love playing to their games - to an extent almost noxious - and spend all their time on it, resulting in being over-skilled. 

I recommend both of them, they are among the best of the kind !

The premise of both shows is gaming.
Both shows incorporate an intelligent protagonist.
If you ever wondered how Shiroe would behave in PvP, this is your next Plan to Watch.
This Donghua is about E-Sports, in which our protagonist is considered to be a "Tactical Master".
Another point I would like to mention is, if you fancied Log Horizon, you would also enjoy this as they are both quite humorous and this one involves trolling.

Both have scenarios where a relatively geeky person (or so it'd seem) from our world suddenly has to deal with another fantasy world. Both main characters are OP. The series each contain a lot less violence and a lot more to do with politics than one would expect. Both are worth watching for people who wish to be whisked away to a world that combines two and imagining what would happen to us if we were there!

There are lots of similarities when it comes to politics. In both anime the newcomers try to solve problems with the native people of the new world through a diplomatic approach.
They both give that military vibe.

well by idea you might feel different but the feels are the same with concept like teamwork,foreign nation politics kingdom/empire being threatened by the existence of adventures/JSDF , no game mechanics but who need magic when you gets badass tanks,missiles rifles and AK47 which is pretty much magic to undeveloped culture, it compare and contrast our recent society(especially Japan's) to our primitive old European based culture with nobility with a tinch of Fantasy Dragons ,Elves and obviously Mahou shoujou  .art style is more realistic unlike Log Horizon .Slow development is also a fact that stand out be the same .All an all the series have lot more in common then you think just replace adventurers in log horizon by JSDF and people of Land by new fantasy world people it is basically log horizon s1 after guild formationn kinda feels, though JSDF surely is overpowering.Also our MC is not outright cliche with some developed/underdeveloped fetishes (Shiro:- lolicon,Itami :- otaku) read more

Both shows belong to the fantasy genre and the world-building in them are greatly executed. Each episode paints a sneak-peak of the world where the show is set and is continually elaborated as the story unfolds. The cast of both shows are also diverse which makes their interactions and activities a pleasure to watch. Both shows understand their respective settings, beautify it each episode and makes full use of them to further the story.

The setting is quite similar , the only big differensial is "Gate" is not a Game , Gate's story line goes a little something like : a mysterious portal appears in japan and some otaku military guy have to go in the mysterious portal , and found another world filled with magic and some shit like that, but it looks like the Ruler of That "dimension" dont like guest  so of course they went to War, but the good thing is 
this "Dimension" doesn't have FREEDO- *cough* i meant Guns. so of course the surrendered ...

If you loved Gate, then Log Horizon will surely be a good follow up if you haven't gotten enough of Isekai yet. Both feature very powerful main characters, whenever a villain comes up, the viewer is always left with the thought: "in which fashion will the MC be crushing this foe?" Furthermore, both animes have at least two seasons, which gives the viewer more time to integrate themselves.

Probably has been said but both have neat similarities.

Both protagonists transported to a world to establish, create and maintain a new type of society that benefits the world they were transported in.
Both go through a multitude of trails and tribulations but goes in with an outlook of not just positivity, but an ideal to better others.
Both world are vibrant, colorful and intriguing cast member and both have stories that go to interesting places that is entertaining.

Both series are isekai's that have the protagonist building a civilization from the ground up.  Log Horizon is a true transported to a video game while Slime's world is more a pure fantasy world.   They are both animated in a super G rated style. The action is fun, but not long or graphic.

Both are relatively stronger than their opponents but for different reasons.

Neither feels overly serious but don't get too far into some of the fantasy cliches.

This has better comedy while Log Horizon has better "wow" moments.

While both the settings are different (trapped in a game vs reincarnated in another world), they have a similar feel to them. Growing and governing a village from scratch (or a nation, in Slime's case), dealing with other nations and people of power, and being a leader for their people. MC's with big hearts and who wish the best for their people. A large cast of characters that continues to grow during the anime, and that you learn to love. Both are very entertaining to watch, and have some exciting action to top it up.

Log Horizon and Maoyuu are two series taking place in a fantasy realm. They both involve war and politics but in a more of a stylistic fashion. Mamare Touno is the original creator for both series and makes their setting come to life with detailed mechanics.

Both series has some action but truly shines in their ability to comprehend and explore their world settings. There is also some drama, comedy, and hints of romance. Maoyuu has more fan service while Log Horizon composes of more comedy.

Since both Log Horizon and Maoyuu Maou Yuusha have the same original creator, some similarities are expected.

Maouyuu's environment is similar to a fantasy game, while Log Horizon is set inside a RPG. They both present a MC trying to defeat an opposing force using political and economic strategies. However, this intellectual concept doesn't make the shows hard to understand.

Both anime depict flaws of the economic and social structures within their respective worlds and provide solutions to those problems, resulting in gradual stability and energy from depression.Moreover the usual romance,action genre is slightly portrayed. While Maoyuu Maou Yuusha is developed inside a fantasy world and Log Horizon story develops inside an RPG game, they both have a lot of politics, economics and struggle for power that makes the story more entertaining and explores the deep of how you can win a battle or war without a single fight.

Also both of them show the importance of strategy in battles and how to apply it not just the power of love or some cheesy excuse the beat their enemy, plus they both have merchant characters that are use to control the world via trade and exchange of goods.

If you like these aspects of Maoyuu Maou Yuusha I highly recommend Log Horizon. read more

The environment that both series take place in has a similar concept but with different circumstances.

As for our main characters, they are stuck in an isolated area from the outside world where they must survive. Btooom! takes more of a serious tone, while Log Horizon is much more lighthearted. However, there are many mechanics behind both series that are explored relating to their circumstances.

The main male protagonists are also gamers with experience in the gaming world.

The main character from SIGN is a Wavermaster. In Log Horizon's case a Mage/magic user. Both series deal with players trapped in an MMORPG except Tsukasa is the only one who can't log out. They must find a way to escape this death game.

Both of these series involve people who are locked inside of an MMO game and cannot leave.  Though the situations are similar, the stories differ in that in the case of .hack//SIGN, only one player is trapped in the game and the story revolves around the people in the game who try to help and how they change as a result of their interactions with Tsukasa.  SIGN is good, but it's very slow to develop.  If you prefer a show with a faster pace, Log Horizon may be the better choice.  Instead of only one character, everyone is trapped inside of an MMO and unlike other shows of the genre, they seem to like it there.  Log Horizon follows a group of people as they strive to find their place in the new world they are a part of. read more

They're not just in the game, their world IS a game. 
In both series, role-playing game elements are integrated within the world, with Log Horizon being a little different as their so called "real world" is detached and no longer accessible to them. Overall, they're both "fun" shows in general compared to other pretentious shows within the same setting.

"Log Horizon" is about adapting and dealing with the intricacies of how the system works as a foundation of the players' new lifestyle.

"Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka" is focused around the main character's growth as an adventurer rather than the world itself.  read more

These two anime have similar graphics and music. I think the characters are better in Log Horizon because they're more mature and clever. The story and the feeling are both better in Log Horizon, too. If you liked Fairy Tail, you will surely like this anime. It's a bit more mature and enjoyable than the similar shounens, especially endless shounens like Naruto, Hunter X Hunter, Fairy Tail, etc.

Their settings may be different, but the events of both series take place in an alternate world. In that world, they must fight for survival with their tactical minds to put forth strategies. There is fantasy elements present along with action, drama, and comedy.

The main female protagonist from both series is also skilled, independent, and has a talent in fighting. Her relationship with the main male protagonist can be viewed in a variety of ways.

Both series contain a premise in a game world - in the case of "Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu" it is the matter of a VR world that the users can log out of whereas "Log Horizon" sets the premise that the game world users are in are locked inside. They have similar premise but the premise isn't exactly the same - as mentioned above. The character palette is also noticeably different between each series - in the case of "Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu" the main character is a female that uses a shield and defensive prowess to overpowers enemies and mobs whereas in "Log Horizon" the main character is a male that is generally a seasoned veteran at alchemy or wizard.  read more

So for me the best parts of Dr Stone are where he outsmarts the opponent with technology so I'd say another anime with those out-smarting hype moments is Log Horizon. The protagonist is Isekaied into a fantasy game and uses knowledge of the game and the real world in order to break the rules of the game and outsmart the enemy.

Ken Deshita and Log Horizon both have main characters who wake up in a different world and goes to adventure with a loli girl who looks up to them. Both have a laid-back tone with some cool MC moments with loli girl training to get better. Both anime share the same director and sound director as well.

If you're a fan of Log Horizon or RPG/game/fantasy world with adventurers, guilds, monsters, etc you'll like Ken Deshita.

Druaga no Tou and Log Horizon involves a fantasy setting with characters of unique abilities. These characters all have their own personalities and joins together in a form of RPG-like scenario. 

There are various classes in both series that reflects the theme of its fantasy atmosphere. World building is discussed and battles are dealt with through skills.

Log Horizon possesses more energy and comedy but Druaga makes it up with its elegant drama.

Sword Art Online II addpermalink

Bot are about people who gets into virtual game world. but while in Log Horizon they do it unwillingly, in Sword Art Online II they do it voluntarily. Both are action, adventure, fantasy, game and shounen. WHile Log Horizon is more "medival", Sword Art Online II is setted in a world where guns are main weapons.

While both anime are very different from each other, there are some very close similarities between the two.
- Both shows feature the same concept: an MMORPG game using VR-technology.
- Each game's world takes place in medieval times where the players are free to do as they choose, as long as they physically can do it.
- Unlike other anime following the same concept, the NPCs in both anime are treated as human beings and don't respawn aftering dying while the players do respawn.

Both shows are otherworldly anime that are fairly light on action, with the focus instead being on business and politics. They both revolve around a main character trying to repair a world- Shiroe is trying to make an unliveable world liveable, while Seiya is trying to prevent a magical theme park from being closed down. In both cases, they are aided by a stoic girl (Akatsuki/Isuzu) who wears her hair in a ponytail and has easily superior fighting abilities to the protagonist.

However, "Log Horizon" is much better, as it has a significantly better story and characters, though "Amagi Brilliant Park" has better animation.

On the surface, it might seem absurd to put an adventure/fantasy and a sports anime in one "basket" but if one looks beyond the two utterly different genres, similarities can be found. Firstly, one of the main themes in both cases is teamwork. May it be a dungeon boss fight or a basketball cup showdown, one can't win solo, team/party connection-collaboration is a core requirement in order to achieve the goal. What is mostly similar though it's the fact that victory is certainly not a random fact based on luck or the outcome of the actions of one OP MC. What both shows emphasize is that a good strategy is absolutely necessary. A well thought plan that implements the characters' super powers. Yup, there are super powers exhibited in both anime, which augment the thrill of each encounter that occurs as the plot unfolds. So, if you enjoy tactics and team play, these two series are made for you.  read more

Kumo desu ga, Nani ka? addpermalink

Kumo Desu ga and Log Horizon are two rare examples of isekai that use RPG/videogame mechanics as critical elements of their respective plots rather than as mere background for their characters' adventures. Both series explore and exploit those mechanics in depth and in similarly creative ways. 

Both are slow burn stories that can appear initially generic, but reveal their true colors and originality once they pick up steam after about 9 episodes. For that reason, the usual 3 episodes rule doesn't work well for either, especially since both series are at best average in the visual department, and thus lack an immediate visual hook for the viewers.

Compared to Log Horizon, Kumo Desu ga has more of a mystery aspect to it, with its narrative purposely delivering or withholding information in ways that encourage theorycrafting and are at times intentionally misleading. In both cases, nonetheless, the very premise of each story (the reason why the characters were transported or reincarnated to another world, and why that world has videogame characteristics) is a mystery both the characters and the narrative acknowledge and question. read more

Tensai Ouji is not an isekai but I found the MC's in both of these have somewhat similar traits. In both they are slowly building and strengthening a kingdom and both are super clever and cunning type of guys. 
But then again, Log Horizon is an isekai but back in the day they knew how to make one.
Log Horizon is the better one from these two.

Both shows are successfully adapting long expositional passages from their respective light novels resulting in a similar tone that focuses on world building and lore. In both series the interest is driven by unravelling the world while character interactions serve more as connective tissue and "relief" from the plot. Log horizon character interactions are more "slice of life"-esque drama and romance whereas in monogatari they tend to be more energetic echii/comedy gags. Even though the presentation is very different plotwise these series are kindred spirits

These 2 anime has similar situation in which both the protagonist and others are stuck in a rpg game with no knowledge on returning to the real world. However, in Overlord the main protagonist is the only current known player who's stuck while in log horizon many players who were logged on at the time was transported into the game. Also, both protagonist are overpowered.

Both anime revolve around a male MC who is good at solving problems, regardless of if its strategy for fight or war, or fix machinery and coming up with plans, The aura of both anime are similar however the Male MC In both of this anime are similar but also have there differences. Setting is different in terms of Log horizon being set in a game and Uta' no Kamen It a world full of Animal ears and Tails, But still have that action theme running strongly through both animes. Definitely recommend watching both these anime

Both in the new world can overpwer anyone they choose to by planning or sheer power. To me Arifuerta is the hard core version of log horizon.

If you want to see Io and Tsumiki in an action MMORPG game about strategizing, here you go.

Shiroe (Log Horizon MC) and Io (Acchi Kocchi MC) are both how as everyone says, dense. They have their awkward cute moments but if you're looking for the same genre of anime, for either one, I don't reccommend watching the other.

Akatsuki (Log Horizon MC) and Tsumiki (Acchi Kocchi MC) are both awkwardly trying to get their "masters" (as Tsumiki is like a cat) to notice them. They both do act like cats at times and they have their cute and awkward moments. 

TLDR; Akatsuki and Shiroe from Log Horizon are a whole lot similar to Io and Tsumiki from Acchi Kocchi. Only reccommended if you'd like to see your favorite characters in a different genre of anime. read more

Even though they differ in so many genres, but the similarities are all about THE MAIN CHARACTER. Both of the animes got the dark hero  protagonists. Sacrificing themselves for the sake of others and becoming the villain intentionally. Both of them are called lazy, useless. But in the end they are strong and brilliant strategic.

Both anime feature a "Highly intelligent, plans everything that's happening, everything everyone does is part of his plan and benefits him" type of character.

In Log Horizon, it's the main character: Shiroe

In Blood Lad, he's only a support character: Braz D. Blood

Lastly, you could say Braz is basically a vampire version of Shiroe. The way they are drawn is extremely similar. Same glasses, nearly the same hair, similar height, etc.

Both are adventure stories that, while having their fair share of action, deal more with the relationships between the characters.  They both have a sense of family or community building among the characters that leaves you with a warm fuzziness after the more dramatic episodes.
Akatsuki is more focused on the main character (Yona) while Log Horizon spreads the attention out more.  Akatsuki is more mature of the two and would probably fit slightly older audiences.  Log Horizon, while more lighthearted, doesn't feel underwhelming when a serious issue arises.

 (Both have a "Avatar:The Last Air Bender" feel if you are more familiar to western cartoons than anime) read more

Orange-haired, well-mannered and respected lady who also adores little girls and loves skinship and to make them wear cute clothes? Check. Dark-haired loli with a bit of an attitude and a tsundere streak, but clings around a quiet man all the time? Check. A girl who is very capable and tries very hard, but is often flustered and eclipsed by the louder and brighter people around her? Check.

Both do involve people being stuck in a game, but the tone is completely non-similar. Log Horizon is close, if not fully, to a comedy, and has random ecchi thrown in as well. To me, it's far better paired with .hack//Legend of the Twilight, one of the lighter in the .hack franchise, and one far more focused on comedy, adventure, etc. To me the tone of LH and .hack//LOTT are quite similar and a far better match than the frequently suggested SAO.

Perhaps an overlooked series but the classic Digimon and Log Horizon both takes place in a virtual/digital realm surrounded by fantasy atmosphere.

The main characters are part of a group as they fight for survival.

There are mechanics explained in both series throughout its plot. Digimon Adventures offers more of an adventurous setting while Log Horizon focuses other aspects of the virtual realm such as economics. However, both series relates to its technological realm that the characters are a part of.

Log Horizon feels to me like the children version of Berserk in some way. Both anime have many discussion about war, royality etc, each anime with its own way. Some moments really looks similar, as when Crusty talks the that princess, same as Ghrifith done in Berserk (They even have the same voice actor- Sakurai Takahiro)

In both shows plot follows how main characters solve various economic and political problems in the world they are in. Despite difference in setting both shows are very focused on the "economic" aspekt of story.

Ragnarok is a lesser well known series to most people but is based off of a MMORPG game with a fantasy setting. As such, they contain elements similar to those of Log Horizon in terms of their themes, style, and settings.

The main male protagonist from both series gets himself involved in this fantasy world where he is part of a group/guild. Together, they strive to survive.

There is comedy, drama, and action present from both series. Additionally, they both contain MMORPG themes such as different classes that are based with different abilities.

Based on an MMORPG. Both series are played on the PC. One series has players trapped in their PC game avatar and basically living in that world. They must solve the mystery behind the apocalypse event. While in Blade and soul tells the story of your quest for vengeance and redemption against a backdrop of Asian fantasy. Also good and evil clash in a story of betrayal, revenge, battling factions, and warring gods.

The setting for both the anime is completey different, one is in a game world while the other in space. 

now here is where they are similar, they both have a strategist Shiroe and okita. They both have crews or guilds in log horizon that work together. 
Space Battleship Yamato 2199 has more romance, action and a strong plot. Both are a must watch

Two incredible shows that demonstrate the art and fun of an RPG. Mahoujin Guruguru emphasize more of the adventure and companionship of misfit allies in a universe governed by typical video game RPG tropes and rolls it into a playful comedy. Log Horizon on the other hand is a capable depiction of what life would very much be like if players in an MMORPG were to suddenly transport into a that very video game where they must learn to create community, lawful control, and maintain the path towards feeling like they belong in this (not so) new world— a world that was once familiar now feeling foreign once again. Both show are rather opposite of one another and share very little commonalities, but if you like RPGs, great anime, and shows that are just a bit different to the typical hot topic anime of the seasons, then check both of these babies out. read more

Hunter X Hunter is a lot more emotional than Log Horizon, but both shows fill me with a sense of careful optimism. The world isn't always a great place, but we can work towards bettering it with our smarts and determination.
Both shows have really fascinating concepts and strategies the characters use. 
Both have very vibrant and colorful worlds.

The concept is completely differently but the vibes are similar. The "feel good" factor is in both series.

Log Horizon is an anime where our characters landed in a world that is familiar yet different to them. As such, they spend their time trying to find out the degree of changes that have occurred, and, in the process, building up a fascinating world. Eureka Seven happens in a world quite different from ours, one that's full of mysteries that even our characters, who have lived there for their whole lives, do not understand. Constantly, they have to question what they understand about their world and explore it to a greater degree, which allows world building to take place simultaneously for the audience. 

Both anime also have a large cast of likable characters, focusing on a few while not neglecting the rest. read more

The two are actually more similar than one might expected. Both have a light and sometime occasionally humorous feeling of adventure. They are both what I would like to call the No Kills anime, in which all the main character or the friendly people associated with the protagonists never dies, and only the bad guys are crossed off the list. Both are on an adventure to discover the truth of something, and both include hints of romance. There are also different groups competing with each other, and the world is also magical with professions such as magicians and such.

Both shows deal with the aftermath of a group of people being spirited away into another realm. Both animes are a blend of present reality and fantasy and both have a light hearted feel to them; although at times things can get dark, but this just makes both shows stronger.
