Both MC's servants have absolute loyalty to their liege. And they do their orders without question asked. Also both are made based on a game like system.

Both are isekai novels with an op protagonist with an inhuman body.

Spiders + RTS + Overlord=Her majesty's swarm
reportRecommended by Koifish321
The protagonist of both novels share a similar characteristics, mainly -A former MMORPG player sent into a fantasy world -Both are mage players -Overpowered (Abilities, items, etc.) -cautious about their opponents -Ruler-like attitude(pretending) -May look like badass from the outside but actually....they're not(in the inside) The setting in both novels are somewhat similar, with most of the inhabitants weak and the protagonist strong. In addition, the protagonist has servants(overlord)/slaves(Isekai Maou) with them. Differences -Overlord starts off with the protagonist having an overpowered guild base -Isekai Maou is somewhat less darker and gory than Overlord -As of now, the story of Isekai Maou centers around the main protagonist. In Overlord, the story may centered on  read more

Similar concept of overpowered characters with non-welcoming appearances being thrown into a new world. Momonga in Overlord acts as the absolute ruler of his guild, Arc in Skeleton-sama acts as a traveller attempting to break the "curse" of his undead body. While Overlord is very character driven, along with plenty of politics peppered in, Skeleton-sama focuses almost exclusively on Arc's endeavors, while giving brief glimpses into the political world and how it changes due to Arcs' unannounced arrival. Momonga uses his powers for his own personal gain, while Arc wants to live a quiet life but keeps winding up in complicated affairs trying to help others.

Take all the world building and conquering, and take away the schemes and dialog, and speed everything up by 10 fold, and you'll have Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken.

Certainly inspired by Overlord. 1. New powerful world society under an isekai protagonist lord. 2. Protag is anti-hero in nature/belief and holds 2 separate identities 3. "Genius mastermind" main character but realistically, all the side characters do the big brain planning and information gathering. They just overcredit their clueless master in a comical manner. 4. HUGE ONE: the servants (combat maids in Overlord) primarily have names associated to the greek alphabet. Naturally, both have a character with some beast connection. 5. In general; plenty of magic & political fantasy stuff

Guy gets transported into a different world and as it show out, he is absurdly overpowered, to the point he alters the fate of the whole new world. While the protagonist of Mushoku Tensei isn't so evil as in Overlord, he is kind of selfish and pursuing own interests and as it is later shown, has the potencial of doing evil.

Death Mage is like a poor man's Overlord. One follows an isekai'd human turned villain who controls a group of villains, while the other follows a double-isekai'd human turned fake-villain/Hero who controls a group of villains and normal people. One starts out extremely overpowered, while the other slowly becomes extremely overpowered. If you like Overlord you should find Death Mage a decent way to pass the time until Volume 15 releases. Just be ware that the world building and writing is far inferior in Death Mage with most things having the depth of "a forgotten country thousands of years ago."

Obsurdly overpowered main character who struggles to find anyone who can at least put up some fight. Fights are ended decisively and it usually takes longer to get into that fight than the fight itself.

Similar fantasy/game based world, and powerfull protagonists. If you loke one, you're bound to like the other.

Commonalities: -They both have an OP MC, with many strong and fanatically loyal followers. -They both have all the fantasy tropes (different races, magic, dungeons, monsters). Differences: -Overlord is an isekai, while 9999's MC is from the world. -9999 is a revenge story. -In 9999 the MC is human, and the human race is heavily discriminated against. -Overlord is a lot more political. Conclusion: 9999 is budget overlord. Overlord has a lot of world-building and political elements, while 9999 is a lot faster paced. 9999 is pretty good so far, and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for more overlord, and vice versa if you somehow found 9999 before overlord.

(1) Loyal subordinates for the MC (2) Subordinates interpret even the smallest actions of their liege as moves in an intricate 10000-year plan (3) Incredible luck for the MC (4) MC not very morally upright - will adopt underhanded / evil ways for their success

These titles are about two powerful protagonists who stayed for the last few hours before the "END GAME" of the RPG they are involved in, but a twist of fate led them to still remain inside the game. They are now stuck inside the game which is now their new reality, as the one PLAYER with no functioning log-out button.

Overlord: Sasuga Ainz-sama Nageki no Bourei: Sasuga Cry-sama
reportRecommended by DickwaD9000
Both protagonists are leaders of a nation, and they both move in a way that are heavily misunderstood (in a good way) by their servants and allies. The perceptions of them by their servants are exaggerated as if they are 10 steps ahead of everyone else.

Mia is constantly being praised for her wisdom, despite the fact that it is all just a facade. All of her knowledge is derived from her past life and what others told her previously, and yet everyone constantly misunderstands her to be a genius. This leads to a lot of hilarious misunderstandings and really is a great read!

Overlord and 1/2 Prince takes place in a virtual realm separate from reality. And in their world, there are a lot of possibilities for its world development. Both adventurous series follows a MMORPG style where magic, swordsplay, and mystical artifacts being prominent as part of the story. The main characters from both series has a rather unique presence with their chosen avatars. If you're looking forward to something that connects virtual fiction with a story and colorful cast of characters, then check these two titles out.

Similarities: -Overpowered protagonist -Protagonist was transported from an MMORPG game to a fantasy world Differences: -In overlord, the protagonist is not a human in the fantasy world -In overlord, the protagonist has powerful servants with him.

-Characters summoned from another world. -Main characters are overpowered.

Both characters are transported to another world Both are OP player characters compared to new world's inhabitants Both commands NPCs more powerful than themselves Both seeks people similar to them (Players) Only difference is that Kyuusetsu have a lighter tone than Overlord.

Similarities: - In both of these novels, the protagonist is summoned to a world that follows RPG conventions. - Both protagonists are incredibly overpowered. - Both protagonists are seen as the embodiment of Evil due to the powers/roles they're granted. Differences: - Jashin Average is much more comedic in tone than Overlord. - While Momonga embraces his role as the overlord, Anri doesn't want anything to do with her newfound powers of evil.

Both of these series are about a misunderstood necromancer who finds himself in a bad company. While Overlord is isekai, Dead Mount Death Play is reverse isekai.

Protagonists are adult men who get isekai'd to a different world, where their actions and strategies they use make them look like evil psychopats althrough inside they are complaining about having to bother with it in the first place and just view it as a necesary way to survive.

Veteran player of an mmorpg gets transported to the game world when the servers are shut down - and they take the body of their player character, an evil lord of demons, though they struggle to accept such label. Both of those protagonists are, of course, overpowered.
reportRecommended by abystoma2
Protagonist gets assigned into a role of evil overlord, a role which gets anchored thanks to missunderstandings of both his new found underlings and the regular folks.
reportRecommended by abystoma2
- Both MC are over hyped by their comrades that it's funny - Both have internal Dialogues which explain over assumption of others in comical way - Both are fantasy style with demons, monsters and humans. ---------------------- Other than that, Both are mostly different. They are similar only for humor part.
reportRecommended by IsekaiNekko
The premise for both series is the same, both protagonists are stuck in the game because of the system. Ester de Valonia also has characters that equivalent to floor guardians in Overlord, they called them seventeen pillars. The difference is, Charon is a weak human who rules over the demons. Ester de Valonia also has many “Sasuga Ainz-sama” moments.
reportRecommended by Mosuwain
Light novels about a protagonist that gets transported into a world that operates on game rules and so the protagonist decides to conquer the world just for the fun.

Their general premises are very similar. The protagonist is the only player to get stuck in the VR game he is playing, and the NPCs gaining personalities is also present in both series.

Known for their online virtual realm setting, both Log Horizon and Overlord explores their many concepts. There are wonders to be discovered for our main characters and missions to fulfill. Both series also adapt many style of fantasy elements ranging from class levels to magic. Expect a story with creative concepts of adventure for both series.
reportRecommended by Stark700
Both of this novels are similar in the comedic aspects. A powerful main character that through luck and misunderstandings gain the praises of their subordinates. The main difference is that "Overlord" have a more serious tone, meanwhile "I’m the Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire!" is just comedy.
