They both involve bands that are completely made up of guys. Also, in both stories...the female main character falls in love with the singer. The main difference is that Kaikan Phrase is based more on drama and Youth Gone Wild is based more on comedy.

Mangas about music, musicians and bands and both draw their inspiration from old real world rock bands with references to those bands, their songs and specific musicians.    In both - the characters don't have the "typical rockstar" personality, they are down to earth and shy with regular day jobs doing manual labor and both have character development.     The art in both of them is really good.    Since Youth Gone Wild is completed this will give those of you who are it's fans another music manga to read and obviously if you love music especially rock -  try it! read more

Kanojo wa Uso wo Aishisugiteru addpermalink

If you like music genre manga, I would suggest Kanojo wa Uso wo Aishisugiteru and Youth Gone Wild.    The first one is ongoing while the second one is an older completed manga.    They have realistic representations of the good and bad sides of the music industry, although Kanojo wa Uso wo Aishisugiteru is darker and has more of the bad side, while Youth Gone Wild is a little more upbeat.   The relationships in it are also on the darker side, while the realtionship between the mc's in Youth Gone Wild progresses very slowly.     Youth Gone Wild is by the mangaka of The One, which is also a good recommendation for them, but this is the mangaka's earlier work and her style is not as developed in it in the beginning.   Kanojo wa Uso wo Aishisugiteru is by the mangaka of Boku no Hatsukoi wo Kimi ni Sasagu.   I happen to like the art of both these mature shoujo mangakas and both of them have other successful manga published,  so if you like their styles you will have several to read from both writers.   read more

If you liked the men in The One, Youth Gone Wild has the same art style.    Youth Gone Wild centers around an all guy band managed by a female agent Yating, but it is not a harem either.    With long haired rocker dudes, it is based on real music such as Guns n Roses and the title is based on a song by Skid Row.    This and its prequel, Paradise City, get into characterization and behind the scenes life of characters in the music industry like the One does in fashion.   Like the One, Youth Gone Wild takes a look at the good and bad things in the industry and the hardships an artist encounters trying to make a name for themselves in a difficult industry.   It's more light-hearted than The One but less funny than Skip Beat!   I think readers of those will appreciate it.   
If you are a fan of Lee Nicky's art and appreciate her mature shoujo- josei style and a story that has a real story and plot with real feeling characters you will enjoy it.   There are enough volumes to really get into the story too but not so many to drag on either.  I truly wish that Youth Gone Wild was better known by people who read her other series and I hope you will enjoy as I have very much myself. read more

Both are about a group who it's discovered by the daughter of the talent agency and have a good talent to discover idol. Also both will fall in love with one of the idol.
