Similar premise. Both have childhood friends who went to different fields in order to change society. One became a yakuza while the other worked for the government/authorities. The two friends are still in communication but they hide their relationship from public to avoid suspicion.

Billion Dogs and Ouroboros involves detective work and drama with cases. Both series consists of characters who have investigation skills. By context, they use clues and their experience to deal with conflicts. And throughout both series, they encounter obstacles that make their work a challenge as they resolve to solve problems. Both series are also known for their packages of humor especially when it comes to working relationships.

Taking place in a modern world setting, both series adapts mystery fiction revolving around detective work. The main male protagonist has contrasting personalities but similar motivations when it comes to solving problems. They team up with other investigators in both series to tackle on difficult cases. Both series also revolves a bit around interpersonal relationships as we find out more about the main characters. Shinrei Tantei Yakumo is more noticeable for its supernatural elements while Ouroboros has more comedy. Recommended for fans of mystery fiction.

Naoki Urasawa created a mystery of epic proportions and even after reading through 100+ chapters the readers were still interested. Still curious about what will happen next. Ouroboros is something similar. A murder happened 15years ago, and still it is of great significance to a number of people. Nobody can be trusted. Why did the murder occur? Who was the killer? The best part is that in both these manga there were no easy guesses, AND no deus ex machina (stupid plots twist ending).

Both show a skilled detective protagonist. Both characters have a dark unexplained/forgotten backstory. Both show corruption in the world, specifically the police department.

Both of these series deal with MCs going undercover in a seedy underworld of crime, drugs and depravity. Both are also heavily revenge focused, the drama is the driving force in both manga.

Admittedly, Death Note and Ouroboros are only similar at their core; they are both dark crime-drama manga series. However, both maintain this core really well. While Death Note uses the supernatural to explore man's dark nature (as well as its flawed protagonist), Ouroboros has realism and seinen-maturity on its side to do mostly the same. If you liked Death Note's atmosphere, Ouroboros would be a good fit.

-Antihero protagonist -Protagonist who working as police officer -Protagonist who looks weak but strong behind the scenes -Dark plot themed -In Dendrobates, Sengawa's working alone while in Ouroboros, had two people that helping each other, Ryuzaki as a police detective and Tatsuya as a leader of Yakuza.

Both series has a more mature setting involving criminals and complicated suspense. Although their premise aren't alike, there's a familiar mood with how both series operates especially when detective work are involved. The main male protagonist in both series also meets a variety of characters that they bond with while adapting with events in the story.

while the setting, characters, and premise are different, the overall grittiness is similar

Both manga deal with solving cases and has young male leads with traumatic pasts and a badass side that is hidden behind a smiling, laughing face. They differ in the fact that Wild Adapter has a slight shounen-ai vibe and a bit of supernatural mystery whereas Ouroboros is more "realistic."
