Synopsis

Shy Miwa has always dreamed of finding love, but living in small-town Japan made finding the right match difficult—especially since she likes girls! Even going away to college didn't seem to help, until one day her outgoing classmate Saeko suggests they might as well start dating each other since it's not like either of them has other options.

At first it seems like things won't work out as their personalities clash and misunderstandings abound. But when their casual friendship starts to become something more, Miwa begins to wonder—can a pragmatic proposal lead to true love?

Here's the thing. When it comes to yuri manga, I always expect some eye-catching or saucy scene at the beginning to catch the readers attention. In fact, this is what i expect from a lot of romance manga. Tsukiatte Agetemo Ii kana is no exception, and frankly, it's a bit cringe initially and throughout the first one or two volumes. And although first impressions are everything, I'm really glad that I stuck it through past the initial volumes. I say this because this story evolves beyond a spicy romance between two women. it's not bad... Certainly not worth writing home to mom about either.
Since the start of this manga one thing has been made painfully evident, the side characters in this manga just don't do it for me. It feels like they rush the pacing by forcing their own ideals onto Miwa which just leads to a slew of things that shouldn't even be happening. If the side characters aren't forcing their ideals onto Miwa, they're constantly prying into Miwa's private life, which just gives me an icky feeling all around. If you want a story about a woman who drunkenly forces another woman into dating her, and then continuously belittles her and ignores her wishes and emotions and sexually coerces her, then this story might be for you. Otherwise, this is an absolutely god awful story. None of the characters except Miwa and one other girl are even remotely likable. Miwa and Saeko are physically incompatible with each other. Saeko constantly forces Miwa into sexual situations when she's not comfortable. All of their "friends" have crushes and want to date at least one of the two. Miwa isn't innocent either.
