Imagine Motoko Kusanagi, the female lead in Ghost in the Shell, reimagined with a horrific past. Kill Bill meets Ghost in the Shell. C.A.T. is a must read.

"The Ghost in the Shell" is a cyberpunk seinen story, and "Dusk Howler" is a VRMMORPG shounen story, but I think both of these stories might appeal to those readers who are interested in topics such as the development of the soul of characters with artificial intelligence or the impact of high technology on the mental health of people in a near-future world. Ghost in the Shell is the refined version of Appleseed. With the well known, favorite themes of cyberpunk, world politics and military industrial complex, Masamune Shirow writes a manga series that piques the intellectual curiosity of the reader, which is quite a rarity. Appleseed approaches the shared themes with the Socrates' and Plato's utopian ideals.

Both are set in the near future, have hacker protagonists, extreme violence, nudity, and very strong willed females.

Ghost In The Shell and RahXephon are similar because both are masterpieces of sci-fi genre, and the mangás storylines are strongly different from their respective anime versions. I read the Ghost In The Shell mangá after watching the anime, and the characters are a lot different. Motoko and Batou telling jokes, a energetic Aramaki, and a more dense history turns this mangá in a must-read for the sci-fi fans. Just as dense as the RahXephon mangá, and both titles have cool action scenes. Try it out!
