Great adaption of the novels. A bit dissapointing sometimes, especially some parts of the last couple of episodes (like Saber vs Berserker or the death of Matou Kariya).

Overall a 9/10 (one of my most favourite series of all time).
Waaaay to lazy to add a forum avatar, or whatever they are called.

Depends on the genre. As for action, ppl might say Fate may be the best. If you ask me, it's not as good as bleach, naruto, or one piece in the action genre.

Where to start... ?

We should be able to rate 1st season and 2nd as one, even though I give this anime 10/10. Perfect prequel of Fate Stay Night with tremendous graphic style and outstanding music and animation.

This episode somehow redeemed itself.
Still they didn't play everpresent feeling? That song was drilled into every Kiritsugu flashback scenes.
And where's that dialogue between Gil and Avenger?
But I like how they played To the Beginning instead of the horrible ending theme during the credits.

Time to wait for BD.

Kiritsugu died five years after the fourth grail war, from Grail Curse AIDS. Five years before FSN.

I have a lot of thoughts on this final episode of the second season. I'm glad I watched both seasons because at first I thought it would be something similar to Fate/Stay Night, which I didn't like how it went, and it turned out to be similar but now I got the basic idea what Fate/Stay Night was all about, though i have to say I have to re-watch it because I can't remember how it ended. Only remember that Gilgamesh was there but I didn't even know he was originally from the previous war, bound to Kotomine by a contract or even that he was an Archer class. And never would have guessed that Sakura and Rin were sisters either or that Kiritsugu is Illya's father. I didn't even think that Sakura would play such an important role in the series at all. I thought of her as a minor character.

Kariya in the end didn't kill Rin's mother, though leaving her mentally unstable. I first thought that he died the previous episode when Berserker lost to Saber but instead he got consumed by the bugs in the basement of the Matou mansion with emotionless Sakura watching him get swallowed.
Kotomine seemed like he was enjoying the sight of the little Rin crying for her father with the that dagger in hands. The same dagger he killed her father with.

It was really sad watching Saber cry T.T

Overall rating of the whole series, for I gave the first part 10/10, for the beautiful but sad Opening and Ending, the fights, the revelations it gave it in order to understand the story better and maybe because in the first part everyone was alive and well and in the second part they started dying out one by one, starting off with Caster, who I didn't favor at all and his sadistic partner Ryuunosuke, and later Lancer with the help of Kiritsugu's cruel plan to kill both Master and Servant.
Then for second part I give it 9/10 for the fights, the Opening and the Ending, the story itself at some point.

Overall rating: 10/10
Though I hate how it ended for Irisviel. She never got to be with Kiritsugu, holding hands, like in that Ending.

Each of the three families has a certain role. The Einzberns provide the vessel for the Grail and performed the summoning ritual, Tohsaka's provide the land of Fuyuki and the Matou bind the heroic spirits and created the command seals.

Kara no Kyoukai. Same studio, same setting, and a great series that comes together beautifully at the end. I'd say Fate/Stay Night since it's the obvious choice if you liked Fate/Zero, but I wouldn't recommend the anime, only the VN. Like Kara no Kyoukai it's something you really need to see as a whole to appreciate fully and the anime is just a mediocre adaptation of only 1/3 of the content.

Also, the EInzberns where the ones that came up with the idea for the ritual because they apparently posessed the Holy Grail at some point in time. They approached the Matou (originally called the Makiri family) for help in binding the necessary Heroic Spirits, and to ensure they were not betrayed and to have a hidden land where the Association wouldn't bother them they used the Tohsaka's influence over both The Magic Association and The Church.

Just FYI, this is all explained in the Fate/Stay Night Visual Novel. Blame the anime for never telling you.

There's an actual fourth player in the creation of the Holy Grail Wars, a Dead Apostle Ancestor called Zelretch who was the mentor of the head of the Tohsaka family at the time the first Holy Grail ritual was done. The Tohsaka's are actually rumored to be vampires because of this (they aren't)... the fact their house has a huge basement with gothic ornaments doesn't help.

Kiritsugu had to accept the grail on the Einzbern's behalf in order to stop Ilya from becoming the next grail. But accepting the grail would mean the destruction of humanity.

Really amazing finale. Although, nothing big happened here, it was wrapped up in an amazing yet very realistic ending. I loved about it the most that no one achieved complete happiness (maybe only Gilgamesh). Kirei was obviously upset at Kiritsugu ignoring him, Waver lost his best friend and Kiritsugu lost Illya. I feel very sorry for Rin, imo she had it the worst after the end of the war especially considering she was completely innocent in all of that. Her mom went crazy, she lost her dad, her sister was taken by a mad man, her tutor was just as mad and she has new responsibilities of a head of Tohsaka family. Sakura has it worse but she is completely brainwashed so she doesn't care much. Considering what these two were actually left with, their natures in F/SN feel out of place, at least Rin's for sure. Maybe I just should play/watch someone playing the VN during summer break.

Back to the episode, Kirei is definitely going into my top 10 characters. Watching him during every scene was nothing but joy (well, aside from the grin at Rin's crying and Tokiyomi's murder)... I'm messed up. >_> I also LOVED the Gilgamesh scene, I didn't see that coming. :-3 Yay for some hot fanservice. Overall, this was a perfect finale, we got an amazing conclusion to the anime and we also saw what became of the main characters and it wasn't a perfect happy end for anyone (I despise those).

About the show, I'm deciding between 9 and 10. I mean, this was definitelly the best anime I saw in a while but it had its mistakes especially pacing during some episodes. Sometimes it went fast, other times it went slow, it was all over the place but in the end it didn't do much harm so I dunno. Also I felt this was better than first season and I gave it 9 but then again, I felt like those 2 episodes of Kiritsugu's flashback killed the pacing for me and the cliffhanger before months long break was awful so normally I would drop to 9 for these stuff... this is confusing. Whatever, I'll rate it 10 to feel good about myself. XD I may have not been able to connect with all the characters, I enjoyed watching some suffer (yeah, I'm messed up, I should feel bad about myself) but this show truly deserves being called a masterpiece so 10/10.

EDIT: I seriously lol'd at BloodRequiem's list. XD

"Rin has it worse than Sakura"
What are you talking about?
Sakura doesn't care about 11 years of abuse and rape?

Even Shirou had a harder time living an empty life influenced by Kiritsugu's retarded ideals.
If anything, Rin had it the easiest.

She did care.
It's just that Sakura is strong.
Zouken even called her an

Although I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get one final epic battle scene in this episode, I still believe it offered great finality to everything. It kinda makes me appreciate Fate/Stay Night a bit more, even though this series was vastly superior to it in almost every way! This final episode was a bit depressing at times, however knowing what happens in Stay Night sorta makes it feel a bit gratifying to know that all of the suffering the characters may be feeling right now will be taken care of in the future.

It was pretty sad to see Saber lamenting about the fact that she couldn't see Lancelot's true pain. To be Kariya is to suffer MIGHTILY, my girl Rin just lost her daddy and now her mom's gone loco, Sakura has dejectedly succumbed to the Matou way of life, Kirei and Gilgamesh are off plotting more evil deeds for the future, and Kiritsugu has to live the rest of his life knowing he caused the destruction of a whole freakin city! Oh, and he can't see his daughter! Shit, at least Waver's somewhat happy at the end of all of this!

Seeing young Shirou in this episode was pretty heartwarming though. Even though I know he's gonna grow up to be some naive, annoying, pigheaded idealist, it makes me appreciate his character more to know that he'll be tying up all of the loose ends in the future. All in all, this was one awesome series! It makes you appreciate everything about this franchise as a whole. I really enjoyed the ride, and it's definitely a show I will never forget.

I'm pretty sure she...

And for those who hate on Sakura for her reaction, do remember by this point she's more or less brainwashed. She just accepted her situation. This is partly because Zouken was actually cunning. He would torture her but he would show her "compassion" and even affection. And he would leave the worse "torture" to be performed by Byakuya (Sakura's stepfather) so as to keep a sort of high ground where Sakura didn't know what to feel of Zouken.

No, a mistake by Studio DEEN. You are never shown Saber fighting Gilgamesh at the begginning of STay Night's Visual Novel and the only mention Saber makes of it is basically this:

-Gilgamesh proposed to Saber
-Saber attacked Gilgamesh

...And that was all we were ever told. So yeah, it falls in line with what Fate/Zero says.

Kirei was extraordinarily amazing this episode. Truly a miracle of the universe. Dat laugh, dat engrish, dat trolling.

I am very satisfied with the series as a whole. I don't think I've ever gotten this much entertainment and enjoyment out of a show. The pacing was a bit fast in some episodes and there were a couple of disappointments - but nothing serious for me and I can't fully judge until I see the final version.

I can't wait for the BD Box and second OST to be released in three months. I hope they add most/all of the scenes I want to see.

I fell like a part of me died today. I knew all this was going to happen ( I even read the LN), but actually seeing the last episode made me realize that this was the last episode. Everyone (excpet for Waver, Gilgamesh, Kirei, and Kirigitsu) dies, and it all for nothing.

I felt the most sorry for kariya though. He made a deal a stupid deal he should of known wouldn't work. Everythime I was watching him I kept wondering : Why did Kariya accept zouken help just to get stronger for the war when in FSN, Shirou (who also has little to no trainning) can get so far in the 5th Holy Grail War?

A part of me wants to say if Kariya just decline Zouken help and fought with his own abilities, he might of lived longer at least.

Welp, moving a bit of the Lancelot stuff here was good enough to make up for the last episode to me, so overall, assuming the BDs add the few things that were cut, I'd have to say that I don't really see how much better they could've adapted the novels, bar a few minor things. Speaking of which, I do wish the scene of Gilgamesh beating Angra Mainyu's corruption was in here, but oh well, I'm sure it'll be in the BDs and even then it was all talking anyway, so I guess I don't lose much from not seeing it.

Holy shit that Kirei laughing was amazing, though. Our epic troll is born.

The final episode's pretty ok, sad though because Aoi has no idea that her husband has died, at least she's alive which is a good thing but she's pretty much mentally ill when you look at her. Man Kirei's such an evil bastard who can do anything to make anyone suffer. Oh well, it's back to watching Fate/Stay Night for me.

the last episode was very satisfying to me. kiritsugu's reaction hit me the hardest. then it was Kirei when he turned all demonic on Rin. also, Saber's delivery in her story started to make me feel like a failure in myself. Just amazing.
I loved this series over all. and i have to say this is the anime of the year.

One of the rare animes that actually has rewatching values. I look forward to revisit this series many times in the future.

Well done ufotable. It's one hell of an artwork.

Agreed.

Sadly overall second season of F/Z is worse than first. (hello two pointless series of flashback and mediocre ep.25).

im impressed by the amount of production quality and good execution this adaptation has so 8/10 for me
i did not give it 10/10 since it has a sad ending and its very sad anime overall
i could have score it a 9/10 but the ending clearly is foreshadowing a continuation and thus Fate/Zero for me cannot be called a stand alone story
