I'm not really familiar with ghibli films but do people really like ghibli movies because of the good animation only? I'm only asking that because every time (or most of the time) people brings up a conversation about a ghibli film they always talk about how good it looks and they don't mention any other element of a good movie or a show like story or characters ect.

It's not just because of the animation but... well, just look at it. It looks way too good to not bring it up.

Nah they’re pretty good in all aspects. Animation is just the easier to talk about.

It’s really nostalgic too, I watched most of the Ghibli movies when I was in elementary. So I just left most of them unrated, I don’t wanna give a subjective or objective rating

I like the animation, but I love Howl's Moving Castle because of the story it tells
“You flounder through life, struggling desperately so you won't drown, even though you would float if you'd just relax.”

Imo most ghibli films are great because Joe Hisaishi knows how to make incredibly memorable and nostalgic melodies. Also ghibli films are made in such a way that on the surface they appear as children’s films, yet many adults can find value and deeper meaning in them

I never saw any Ghibli films before 2021. I watched the big 3 I’ve heard of. Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and Howl’s Moving Castle. All of them had an interesting theme and plot along with the animation. Idk if I’ll watch anymore, but those 3 did a great job

Studio Ghibli does have high quality animation, but no, I genuinely love a decent amount of their filmography for reasons other than just animation.

Mainly nostalgia. It resembles old Disney movies because Ghibli was inspired because of Disney
The right mindset when watching an anime is hoping that it will break your top 10

the animation is only one good aspect about ghibli movies… the stories are pretty nice and almost always have a meaning behind.

Anime consumers tend to mention the animation because they're not used to that level, thanks to mainly watching TV prods and brand films.

Well Howl’s Moving Castle is one of those movies I have watched more than once: actually I’m not really a big fan of the other Ghibli films(- as I read the comments above I guess one reason could be my age.. but who knows..^^) Still, this one somehow found it’s way to my heart. I really like Howl’s character and the visuals. The story is also gripping not to mention the music. I am really emotional and I like the pieces that has impacts on me this way- I still remember the range of feelings it awakened in me..

Plenty of people bring up various points in defense of Ghibli movies, the assertion is just wrong. Be it kind stories, strong heroines, careful work with folklore, comments on ecology, etc. Of course Ghibli is praised not only for animation. Howl in particular represents Miyazaki's message about war, for example.

You can easily find deeply-thought-about reviews on any major platform concerning why someone might admire the studio.

Excuse me, I quoted you incorrectly. Based on your message you don't want to be objective or subjective in your rating of the films. What else can you be? (Assuming you actually want to impart an opinion.)

ghibli films usually have an abstract storyline and cool ideas like a giant walking castle, or a princess riding a wolf, I think this is mostly the reason for their popularity. That’s not to say that the animation is bad though, it’s just not the only reason for their popularity.

Whenever I watched a Ghibli film it always brings out the inner child within me. Ghibli makes good fantasies. I remember watching "When the Wind Rises" with my father, even he was amazed by it. He really likes planes so that movie made him relieved his youth.

if it were just animation then some Ghibli films would be far better received than they are.

Jizzy as you would call yourself because youre a dick The most butthurt award goes to you And clearly you havent watched that many shows thats why you cant determine if a show is unique or not Or maybe you're just a child who likes common stuffs where hero saves the day and guys gets all the girls. Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

I personally watch Ghibli films for the art direction. But I know a lot of them have character-driven stories with interesting, three dimensional characters. They also tend to feature (especially in Miyazaki’s case) intricate and gorgeous world-building, like in Ponyo or Spirited Away (which I personally didn’t care for). Others have intricate love stories or deal with other topics like adoption, in the case of When Marnie Was There. Many of them are adapted from other stories but manage to make the films completely their own. Even though I don’t always care for the plot or the slice of life way many of them are set up, I can always appreciate the magic of the art, sound, world, and character depth.

the animation is really amazing and deserves all the popularity but i think they should really start talking about how good the story and the characters are. buuuttt the artstyle of ghibli movies are probably the most memorable thing for those who've watched them so i can't really blame them for always talking about how good it looks.

The animation is definitely worth mentioning but for me personally I love these movies because of the stories. They’re so fun to watch and the stories really take you on different adventures it’s awesome. Some of my favourites are howl’s moving castle, spirited away, my neighbour totoro, and the wind rises. I also love the nostalgic feel these movies have!

There’s a lot to love about Ghibli movies. The art, animation, stories, music, characters, and of course, they’re nostalgic even for people who didn’t grow up watching them. They’re special..and works of art that transport you and make you feel warm inside. That’s at least the case for me :)

It's the general vibe, most easily explained by commenting on the animation. They all feel a bit magical, even the ones that don't have actual magic. Also the stories usually have good messages.

A lot of ghibli movies actually have pretty good and fun plot lines especially since a lot have fantasy elements and good relationships between characters like Howl and Sophie, but also friendships and family relationships are represented in fun ways like in Ponyo and Totoro. They're pretty and fun to watch.
