Both series are about the everyday happenings a group of high school girls. They both follow their daily lives with anime humour thrown in.
report Recommended by Kraker2k
The situational humor in both of these are incredibly similar. They are both so quirky. I watch Azumanga first and it's one of the few anime I'll rewatch. I'm so glad to find Nichijou. It was like finding out Parks and Rec was an option after rewatching The Office.

Both are from the same genre - slice of life/comedy, and both tell the story in similar ways, using short segments throughout each episode to explore different parts of the characters lives. Both are hilarious, and both are a must watch.
report Recommended by GeneralCox
Both are enjoyable slice-of-life comedies set in highschool starring an almost entirely female cast. Very similar humor and character types. Azumanga Daioh is a bit surreal at times and K-ON has the Moe-factor and a focus on music.
report Recommended by infjeff
Both are high school comedy anime. Azumanga Daioh is a bit more wacky and random, and School Rumble has more story (just a little), but if you like one, you should also like the other.
report Recommended by Axersia
If you like nonsense comedy, go with Shinryaku! Ika Musume and Azumanga Daioh. The first is some kind of an amateur version of the second, but the laughter is guaranteed either way. And don't forget: Osaka-san rules all!

Similar characters, similar script and similar people but they are boys of course and similar reactions with Ouran High School Host Club :)

Close group of friends in hilarious skits

Both are from a similar genre - slice of life/comedy, both are set round a group of girls who attend a high school and get into hilarious situations. The cast in Hyakko does eventually involve most of its class whereas Diaoh keeps its initial close group of friends, but both are hilarious and worth a watch

Azumanga Daioh and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei focus on the interaction between crazy teachers and zany students. Both are rather random and do not adhere to a strict plot, relaying on continous gags instead of storytelling. Azumanga Daioh is less insane, though, and its parodies can be enjoyed by all ages while Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei offers a kind of dark humour and a stock full of pop culture references that are aimed at an older audience.
report Recommended by Nocturnal
Both have their main focus on different/unique/strange characters and both have a rather bizarre sense of humor.
report Recommended by Ultramario
Very different styles and types of humour, yet similar in their simplicity, non-sequitors, and nonsensical randomness. They use both slapstick and wit at times and are genuinely funny. While Azumanga has nearly an all female cast, Cromartie is all male.
report Recommended by X-ATMO92
Both are funny in the same way that hanging out with your best friends and talking and laughing about nothing in particular is funny.
report Recommended by Anomalous
Both are slice-of-life comedies featuring a group of female high school students (and occasionally their teachers). The humor comes primarily from the quirky personalities of the cast in both series, and they share the same laid back atmosphere. The art style of Hidamari is a little more unusual, though.
report Recommended by Dorcas_Aurelia
Both Hetalia and Azumanga Daioh have this sort of short episodic nature about them with each episode being cut into smaller episodes. It is a lot of fun but there are times where you will scratch your head as some of the jokes did not translate well to English if you are watching the dub. Still, sub or dub, both of these anime are pretty good.
report Recommended by angelsreview
Similar, absurd sense of humour - Asobi Asobase is like Azumanga on steroids.
report Recommended by sajagi
Azumanga Daioh is similar in energy to Toradora!, and everytime I watch Ryuji's teacher homeroom teacher Yuri, I cannot help but be reminded of Chiyo and her friends' homeroom teacher Yukari; uncanny resemblance. Azumanga Daioh is a little more absurdist than Toradora! and has no specific plot, and is a little more low-key at times, but if you enjoyed Toradora! I definitely recommend Azumanga Daioh.
report Recommended by Morticon
If you're looking for some nonsense fun, here you have two great series to pick: Azumanga Daioh makes you laugh like there's no tomorrow, and Fumoffu is not that fun, but it has weapons and more action.
report Recommended by Superman
K-ON!! is an anime that clearly takes a lot of inspiration from Azumanga Daioh and resemble eachother in a lot of ways. While Azumanga is a lot more silly and K-ON is a lot more realistic, there's lots for fans of either series to enjoy. Fun, lighthearted slice of life with plenty of hilarious comedy between the characters.
report Recommended by Veronin
both are completely random and have no point and both are crazy and hileriously funny
report Recommended by tesu
Mitsudomoe is like a dirty version of Azumanga. They have somewhat similar comedy and overall flow, and they're both hysterical.
report Recommended by Racaholic
Both animes show the everyday of cute girls.
report Recommended by biakudryavka
they are both similar because they don't have a main storyline and it just random scene transitioning into another random scene during the series
report Recommended by marick251
This show was basically Azumanga, but with less variety in jokes, and more lesbians. This is not necessarily a bad thing, because I loved Azumanga, and greatly enjoyed this show, as well. If you like gag comedies about cute girls, this show is probably up your alley.
report Recommended by JAKQ7111
For slice-of-life shows, Tonari no Seki-kun and Azumanga Daioh take it to a level of fascination with its small, yet colorful cast of characters. Innovative ideas about simple school life are transformed into absurdities that will draw in your attention. The dialogues spoken have the strength to bring attention toward both what's happening and the characters themselves. And because both series take place in a school life setting, you'll expect plenty of activities going around.
report Recommended by Stark700
Both hilarious stories about groups of girl friends in schools, with no romance, just pure comedy
report Recommended by kurotsubasa72
I My Me! Strawberry Eggs is random and humorous, although maybe not as random as Azumanga. They both take place in school. They have a similar humour type. Personally I found Strawberry Eggs even more funny than Azumanga.
report Recommended by ToboeTheWolf
These are all joke-driven without major emphasis on long-term plot.
report Recommended by formosan
Comedy around high school girls. Though Sasameki koto has some yuri & romance parts leading to slightly heavy moments, the series is 80% funny and highly enjoyable. Both series got good pace, arrangement and scripts.
report Recommended by bottle
an all-girl school comedy.. no boys in azumanga though. plus rika dobashi and kagura are both tomboyish and excels in athletics
report Recommended by mrpogi91
Kanamemo is also a comedy with all-girl cast. The humour might be a bit different, but while watching Kanamemo I couldn't help but think about Azumanga Daioh characters! Hinata is a lot like Kagura, Kana's imagination immediately brings Osaka to one's mind, and Yuuki & Yume are a lot like Sakaki & Kaorin might be if they ever got together. Even superdeformed scenes in Kanamemo are closely mimicking Azumanga in style.
report Recommended by Solarius_Scorch
Both titles are set in High School with a large main cast of characters. Both shows deal with students in high school that go through random and crazy events that happen in their lives while trying their best to deal with school. While Baka and Test are set in a less traditional high school setting compare to Azumanga Daioh, they both have great and wonderful characters. Both are hilarious to watch. If you enjoyed one, you will enjoy the other.
report Recommended by Hellspawn28
Both animes are good if you're feeling blue. They both consist of lots of small funny srories and it would be difficult for me to say which one is more fun. These two animes are about ordinary lives of ordinary people, but "Tonari" deals more with the family life, whereas "Azumanga" describes (after)school life only. There're adorable characters in both of them. And although their animation is not that of a high quality, but... but what are you demanding from two brilliant animes that already have a soul and a full trunk of humour? To sum up, if you like comedy or slice-of-life you should  read more

They are both in school based and quite funny with adorable characters ^_^
report Recommended by narunaru
Both animes are school comedies. Neither of them are very complex, but both are very funny and good to watch if you just need some humor.
report Recommended by Shion-chama
What can I say? They're both slice of life shows with a lot of kitties. Sure, Sketchbook has a lot more, but without the kitties, neither shows would be the same. Sketchbook leans more towards the very cute, somewhat slow-paced slice of life genre, while Azumanga Daioh tries much harder to get laughs. Yet despite that I can see a lot of Azumanga Daioh fans enjoying Sketchbook (and vice-versa, though most people have seen Azumanga Daioh).
report Recommended by SY_IS_DEAD_IRL
They're both pretty much random and funny. I recommend both of these if you're looking for laugh out loud comedy.

Both of these shows follow a group of girls trying to get through high school, both taking a strange route through imagination and friendship.
report Recommended by mitamaking
If you want a good laugh and Kyou no Go no Ni made you laugh, then you should start Azumanga Daioh. Even the structure on an episod is similar, short - funny "episodes" pasted togheter to form a 20/25 minutes episode...

Azumanga Daioh wasnt the regular school based anime, but Pani Poni Dash knocks it out of the feild in comedy and creativity. Azumanga Daioh had random moments and hilarious themes, but Pani Poni Dash is all round crazy, theres no telling what they can throw at you. Pani Poni Dash is based around an 11 year old girl, Rebecca Miyamoto, who is an MIT graduate. She returns to Japan to be a high school teacher at Momotsuki academy. Her class is crazy weird, with lots of interesting and not so rememberable characters. If you liked Azumanga Daioh, then TRUST ME, you NEED to see Pani  read more

The creater of Azumanga Daioh helped create Mahou Yuugi (Magical Play) as you may notice from the character designs. It has the same random silliness too. An absolute "must-watch" if you can find it.

Although the plots have practicably nothing in common the characters on the other-hand do have the same vibe to them

Both revolve around young children who are put into positions that are normally for people older then themselves. One is a 10 year old in high school, and the other is a child teacher.

If you liked the cuteness of Chiyo-chan in a penguin suit your going to love Yuzuyu singing the Onigiri Song

Gal & Dino and Azumanga Diaoh are both random at times too & they're both comedies & slice of life animes.
report Recommended by VampireLord1024
Both are about cute girls doing cute things. Both however stand out from the mass with their witty humor. They have their differences, with Azumanga Daioh taking place in regular school and contains many instances of questionable humor. Whilst Hidamari Sketch takes place at an art-school. School lifes Galore! Nevertheless, entertainment about daily lives of high school girls has never been this good. :3
report Recommended by Jodyqt
Both are anime that are split into at least two different stories per episode.
report Recommended by WolfGoddess77
Same types of humor, same format. Both are slightly absurdist, although Nichijou is much more so. Both are highly recommended in general.
report Recommended by ataraxial
Each features girls with fairly unusual personalities, both are slice of life, and neither have really that much of a plot.
report Recommended by YoshinoVA
Tsuruoka, Yota are sound directors from both anime and both have episodes full with randomness and things that will make you laugh out loud.
report Recommended by blueunicorns
Both are comedies centering on a group of cute high school girls, yet (refreshingly) neither relies on sexy fanservice for its appeal, giving each a similarly lighthearted and simply charming atmosphere. The appeal comes straight from the quirky characters with their charming personalities, including some likable teacher characters for support. Beyond their humor, both also manage to deliver some heartwarming and relatable emotion in their latter halves.
report Recommended by Asa-Turney
Both are girls doing funny things. They both have great comedy and i can watch em all day
report Recommended by CyanCheetah
Both shows are comedies that are totally hilarious. But the thing that makes both shows similar is the format as both shows are told in five mini-episodes in one compilation episode. Both shows are great comedies worth watching, but Saiki Kusuo is centered on one guy while Azumanga is about girls going crazy.
report Recommended by GridironOtaku
Both are about daily highschool life. Shows stories about a group of friends, they're both more on the comedy side no real plot just watching their daily lives throughout highschool. I think it is basically the same but instead of a group of boys in Kimi to Boku, it's a group of girls in Azumanga Daioh. Both absolute favourite of mine for school life genre.
report Recommended by yorozuyano
Slice of life about quirky cute girls doing quirky cute stuff.

Both slice of life, have school setting time to time, and fun to watch

If one likes slice of life anime with girls, then this could be up your alley. Only difference is that the latter came out more than a decade plus ago.

Dumb and wholesome school. (Hello eberynyan. How are you? Fine Thank you. Omaiga - Meme sauce)
report Recommended by YuiNyanTecna
Peaceful slice of life shows with a cast of cute girls. There's at least one character who is distinctly younger than the rest.
report Recommended by Cozye
Despite from the different era (Azumanga from Heisei and BTR from Reiwa) and genre (BTR focuses in music while Azumanga is a SoL with more general context), both Azumanga and BTR are the same sitcom-SoL anime shows that share the same cute but goofy and even memetic traits, mainly from Bocchi herself and Osaka, and both are relatable either in their respective eras or nowadays. Both Bocchi and Osaka are considered by many fans as the goofiest slice of life heroines ever exist. Well, if you want to enjoy a slapstick slice of life, these two would be a great combination.
report Recommended by iamshin320
Though the similarities may not be obvious at first, Both Azumanga Daioh and Crayon Shin-chan are two hilarious slice of life comedies with charming animations and hilarious characters.
report Recommended by deadfighter7
Kaguya-sama and his exaggerated way in the anime comedy reminds me of Azumanga Daioh, although Azumanga has no romance at any time, I think that the jokes and the way of doing each episode are very reminiscent of both. Each has a story of the normal days of each day that passes, in which both are slice of life. Both manage to be too striking for their audience, making it well received.
report Recommended by Artdoroki
Both are slice of life genre animes with at least 2 idiot girls and 1 smart one. and they bot have students hanging out with their teacher, the difference is azumanga diaoh has actual jokes in it that are funny
report Recommended by nidoqueen106
Both are different lengths, but they're about gals being pals. It's fun to get invested with the characters in both series.
report Recommended by MissOtaku1997
While Teekyuu is the more weirder, shorter and maybe less light-hearted of the two, both are packed with absurd comedy moments that would make you fall from your seat.
report Recommended by parallelle_slip
They're both about cute girls doing absolutely nothing Both have short episodes (Although in azumanga there are several episodes in one, making the episodes last 20 minutes)
report Recommended by Ahiru229
Both shows are about a group of teen girls spending time in silly and entertaining ways. Azumanga Daioh pretty much started this whole genre and is a must watch.
report Recommended by delta5
How no one did this yet is beyond me. Again, a group of girls just doing stuff (everyday stuff), but Azu is better. Watch it. It's a masterpiece.
report Recommended by RazingPhoenix
Both are school & comedies.
report Recommended by VampireLord1024
Both shows are comedic and have an all girl main cast. Sabagebu is about a school club, while Azumanga Daioh is about daily life at and outside of school. Each episode is broken down into shorts.
report Recommended by Noodle070
The teachers are nearly the same in both series. Overall: fun school life with jokes, puns, and physically comedy in small bits since both were originally 4-komas.
report Recommended by lanblade
Fruits Basket is full of hilarious, over-the-top humor as well as touching stories and a bit of fantasy. It consists of a very funny cast like Azumanga Daioh. The two anime will equally warm your heart, as well as split your sides with laughter.

Both a bunch of girls just messing around. Not really any guys in Azumanga though ^_^

It's a school / comedy like azumanga daioh though it's comedy style is way more different. it's more random/wacky/interesting.Iit has an animal as one of the main charaters too but pulled off more in depth and better.
report Recommended by midori-
Azumanga Daioh is a slice of life comedy about six high school girls, and Magikano is a comedy about witches living in the modern world, but they are both very similar because they use the same kind of slapstick humor with episodes that don't run together individually, but run together as a whole. Both are very funny, with characters that don't take themselves too seriously.
report Recommended by winksniper
Both series are high-school comedies based on 4-panel manga. Both feature young female main characters who often have a hard time being taken seriously (with the exception that Sensei no Ojikan's Suzuki Mika only looks young, but is actually 27). Both also feature a tall, smart, curvaceous female student who has more interest in cute girls than in athletics, despite the fact that they excel at them. The similarities are almost uncanny.
report Recommended by 2DOtaku
Both are comedy anime with no real plots. The episodes are very random. While Azumanga takes place in a normal school, Shinobuden takes place in a ninja school.
report Recommended by bonkler
Very similar kind of aura and atmosphere to K-On, obviously Azumanga came first and is an absolute classic. Same type of characters and engaging episodes.
report Recommended by roflman79
Both these are centered around high school and, more specifically, the lives and dreams of girls. Whereas "Azumanga Daioh" deals with multiple characters, "Whisper of the Heart" is centered around one main. Both these animes are rather light-hearted; "Whisper of the Heart" being deeper and more realistic while "Azumanga Daioh" is clearly more of a comedy.
report Recommended by kerlyenai
Clannad and Azumanga Diaoh have a lot in common. Both plots revolve around highschool students and both animes are witty and humorous. While I was watching Clannad, I instantly though of Azumanga Diaoh.

WELL, it is obviously going to take some explaining on my part for this: Genre-defyers. Does that make much sense? AzuDai: When you hear "school life", or "slice of life", what do you think? Boring, typical old shoujo-y episodes of girls fawning over boys that never notice them and "schooltime antics" ensuing? Well, if you've ever seen AzuDai, you will know it stretches the "schoolife"/"slice of life" definitions to a breaking point, most with types of humour ranging from dark humour to outright crack. Simply put it is very unique. Soul Eater: YEAH, IT'S A SHOUNEN. But not with overly long story arcs, characters constanlty trying to  read more

Comedy series which are both very silly in nature, although Ebichu is a lot more adult-oriented, and Azumanga is school-life. Ebichu and her master are comparable to Yomi and Tomo, in that one character teases and annoys the other, more serious character.
report Recommended by Pikangie
Both are comedies which contain episodes from girls' life. The difference is that Azumanga Daioh is realistic and Di Gi Charat is completely absurd.

Also based off a 4-koma with similar day-to-dayesque humor.

Both are comedies that follow a group of schoolgirls and their everyday life, portrayed in random and absurd-like manner. Plastic Neesan contains more ecchi and ecchi-based jokes though.

They both depict the daily lives of the characters with the emphasis on their randomness.

Both take place in a school setting and have similar character art. Both have bizarre situations based on the sci-fi elements in Alien Nine and the overall comedic elements in Azumanga Daioh. If you like the weirdness in either one, you should watch the other.

two series featuring 6 crazy and wacky girls.. give these two a crossover and surely, osaka might even imagine chiyo fighting alongside sakuya kamatsuri.. with the former using her pigtails as weapons(one pair of pigtails will be used either as joysticks for chiyo's jetpack, another pair as lightsabers, and another to hold a bazooka). also, hifumi and sakaki both loves animals specially for sakaki's case, cats
report Recommended by mrpogi91
both series have wierdo looking girls, osaka kasuga and hikari tsukishiro, although osaka is smiling while hikari is more serious, plus both series have cheery, childish girls chiyo mihama and hinata okano, and have long-haired, glasses wearing ladies, yomi mizuhara and kasumi shikohin. the difference though is that azumanga daioh is more comedic while wind a breath of heart is more on romance and drama with some humor thanks to tachibana. in some instances, makoto and tsutomu are like the male versions of yomi and tomi, with makoto being the male version of yomi and tsutomu, the male version of tomo
report Recommended by mrpogi91
both series consists of 6 girls, though azumanga daioh has no guys. plus both have the most annoying girls tomo takino and hikari nakazato, and kagura's good-tempered nature is similar to tae isawa, although lamune is the drama version while azumanga daioh is the comedy version

they're both comedy and cute too. ACC has great characters too like Azumanga Daioh and this anime actually has way more characters but still almost every single one of them is still memorable and likeable. This anime's sense of humor is different to azumanga but I think azumanga fans will get it.
