I know its a weird recommendation really.

BUT- they are both similar in their protagonist going through an elite environment to progress in their fields (obviously different fields).

Super motivating competitiveness.

The Story is almost the same, A boy godly at Tennis/Cooking joins a school with equal or better people at his activity. His reason for joining is also to top his father who always beats him.

As I was watching Food Wars, I started to make many parallels with Prince of Tennis, since both were shounen and had a similar premise. Here are some similarities I noticed:

- Both explore in-depth into a particular field/skill/culture, Food Wars being about food and PoT being about the sport of tennis.

- Both MCs are self-confident, somewhat cocky/arrogant teenage males who have the skills to back it up.

- Both have backgrounds/previous exposure in their art, with Yukihira Soma growing up helping in his family's diner, and Echizen Ryoma being a youth tennis prodigy with several national championships under his belt before moving back to Japan.

- Both transfer into a school famous for their respective art, in order to better themselves. Soma goes to Tootsuki Academy, the top culinary school, and Echizen Ryoma transfers into Seishun Middle School, renowned for its formidable tennis club.

- Both are not well-accepted by their peers initially. While Soma is a friendly guy, his background in a lowly family diner is enough to earn him the other students' belittlement, since they all mostly come from elite culinary upbringings. They doubt his abilities. Echizen Ryoma is the opposite. With several championships under his name, nobody doubts his skills. However, it's his personality that many of his peers have a problem with, as he's unfriendly, cold, and tends to look down on others in regards to tennis.

-Both have to initially face off against veterans at their school to make their names heard. Soma wins against several notable chefs after his transfer into the school, and earns himself some fame. Ryoma challenges the upperclassmen to matches, and utterly wipes the floor with them. But since they weren't official matches, nobody counted them. It isn't until the ranking tournaments that he starts to square off against the team's famed starting players. 

- Both face competitions and tournaments against formidable foes. Soma participates in cook-offs, while Ryoma participates in matches and tournaments after securing himself a spot in the starting lineup. Pretty self-explanatory really.

- Both bond with the people they spend time with, and quickly become like a family. The Polar Star dorm for Soma, and the tennis team regulars for Ryoma.

- Both have a father that is world-famous in their respective fields, and were trained by them. Soma's father is a world-class chef, and a graduate of Tootsuki Academy, formerly being one of the top students. He passes on many of his cooking techniques and skills onto Soma. Ryoma's father is a former pro tennis player, who suddenly disappeared from the circuit to raise his son. He taught Ryoma the ways of the racket and shaped him into the tennis powerhouse he is now. However, Ryoma mimics his father too much, and struggles throughout the show to find and discover his own play style, one that is truly unique to him.

- Both ran in Shounen Jump. Not that big a deal, but still

I honestly think that people who enjoy one would also enjoy the other to some degree, but that's up to the individual. Both are great shows IMO read more

While the two anime are completely different in the aspect that Shokugeki is based on food and Prince of Tennis is on tennis, I have found that one major similarity is that can be broken down into the following:
- both the main characters are male
- they are both 'geniuses' in their respective avtivities
- they both are experienced in their respective activities as they had been brought up in that background
- they both have a father who overshadows them and are their unbeatable rival
With those points in mind, if you're looking for an anime with a badass main character who is a sort of a genius, check out these anime (if you haven't already) and I'm sure you'll enjoy them!  read more

Similar cooking theme about two culinary prodigies. Ajiyoshi Yoichi is a culinary prodigy who manages the eating house together with his mother same with Yukihira Souma who manages their restaurant together with his father Yukihira Jouchiro.  Both are geniuses when it comes to culinary skill and both of them keep on evolving, exploring and polishing their culinary skills to the highest level.

Even though both anime look and feel different, the main idea behind the two shows are the same. In Food Wars Souma attends a cooking school (Tootsuki Culinary Academy) while Midoriya attends a school that trains heroes (UA High). Both Souma and Midoriya has untapped potential and grows steadily over the course of the series. Just like Souma's wish is to bypass his father, Midoriya wants to be the successor for All Might. Both shows have tournaments and battles and unforgettable side characters.

While the stories are considerably different, I believe that if you enjoyed one, you will definitely enjoy the other. Both shows are concentrated fast-paced fun with a knack for over-the-top craziness. Another common element which immediately made me think of the other anime is creatively used ecchi. The shows use eye candy in a way that is usually appealing or at least excusable even to people who usually avoid it like a plague. Lastly, there's a similarity in the setting (school) and the rough plot outline (rising through the ranks to fight the main antagonist, an arrogant young girl).

Similar MC. Both of the MC's are superior to other characters. The animation is smooth an visuals are gorgeus. Both also have a catchy opening song and great soundtracks.

If you love One Punch Man I'm sure a lot of the reason was the hype you felt every time you watched the intro, every time you heard the OST, and every time a fight scene came up. I don't blame you for feeling that hype, One Punch Man is a fantastic show. I consider it to be the second best anime to come out of 2015; second only to Shokugeki no Souma or Food Wars. If you have not watched this show, fix that. Shokugeki no Souma is half-way between being a parody of a Shounen, and actually being a Shounen. It's a Shounen about food. And trust me, this is the most hyped you will ever get about food, Gordon Ramnsay's everything doesn't even compare. The OST is and the animation in the fight(cooking) scenes is just as amazing as OPM's, with the animation in general being better(if we are including the slice of life parts). I believe the story to be even better than OPM's, as well as the overall hype of the show(I will admit, Shokugeki may have the unfair advantage as it's 24 episodes long). I can honestly tell you that Shokugeki no Souma has the potential to be the best anime you watch for a long time, since I have yet to see a better one. I admit I put Steins;Gate and Cowboy Bebop at about the same level, but I don't consider them to be better or worse per se. I believe Shokugeki no Souma to be one of the best anime to ever grace this world despite its laughable concept and joking nature, and I believe that if you were to watch it there is a good chance you will feel the exact same way.

Now, if you've watched Shokugeki no Souma and haven't seen One Punch Man, where've you been? Even though I don't consider it to be quite on Shokugeki's level, it's still a top tier anime. Easily in the top 10 of 2015 almost regardless of who you ask. I personally consider it to be the second best of 2015, and if you are looking for some more of that hyped feeling after finishing Shokugeki, this is the perfect anime for you. The OST is just as good Shokugeki's and the animation in the fight scenes is just as good as the animation in Shokugeki's cooking scenes. One Punch Man also does not take place in a high school, so you could have a small break from that. Fantastic anime, almost perfect parody of a shounen, and completely worth the re-re-watch.  read more

If either of these shows tickled your fancy, and you were drawn in by the shounen inspired battles, or the drive of the main characters to become the very best and eclipse the skills of all the others, or maybe you were just there to enjoy a bit of ecchi, then it's likely the other one is gonna appease you aswell. 

Both shows follow a dark-horse of a main character, whose mix of skills and drive takes them through the ranks and shocks the world around them. While Keijo is a sports based show, Shokugeki no Soma has a sport like feel to it, with tournaments, epic battles and rivalries between the characters.

There is no shortage of humour in either of the shows, and both take place in an academy designed to home their specific skills, wheres only the strongest can survive. The battles are endless, without break, so you will never be disappointed for lack of interesting content. Whether you like food or butts, you'll be satisfied with what is presented on your plate if you enjoyed one of these shows. read more

Even though the themes of both are different there are quite a few similarities between both of these animes

- Both animes are set in an elite school setting
- Student Council holds a lot of authority over the school
- Special tests are taken, and those who perform poorly face persecution and sometimes even expulsion from academy
- Various groups form within the student body centering the influential ones
- The goal of the animes are to take over the top spot of the school

Both have a son trying to live up to the standards of their father. Both are about being put through challenges in order to achieve their final goal while making friends along the way. The main characters are similar in their stubbornness and outspoken nature. Both main characters are considered stupid and inferior by most until they prove themselves to be great.

Both shows involve eating. While Dagashi Kashi is more candy shop oriented, Shokugeki no Souma takes place inside the Totsuki's academy/ Yukihira father's restaurant. 

Add over the top reactions and you basically got very yummy and tasty animes..

Add crazy characters around MC and you will get over the top comedy...

It's basically the same show.....or not....

Both shows are really good at showcasing their respective professions (cooking/music), and fully explore the highs and lows of being 100% dedicated to their craft.

Both shows feature a main character that is a master (or former master) of music/cooking, with a second character that is relatively weak/shy who grows tremendously by learning from the main character.

Through these characters, the shows explore just how cruel these professions can be, requiring the students to devote themselves for long hours over weeks, just for a chance at success. Notably, Shokugeki takes place in a school featuring the world's top culinary students, but only 1% of that group makes it past year 1. Students suffer through endless trials that are intentionally unfair, and judges are frustratingly harsh. With Your Lie in April, the main character suffers severe trauma as a result of the pressure from family and friends. Later, the main character is put in charge of tutoring a young student, who experiences similar bouts of agony in preparing for a performance.  A combination of peer/family pressure, sky-high expectations, rigorous school/training demands, and personal motivation pushes every student to sacrifice everything in order to just barely survive. read more

-Both have main characters that are very good at what they do
-However neither of these characters is the best yet, and their few losses greatly impact the plot
-Both of them feature a considerable amount of fanservice that manages to not feel forced and flows naturally
-Both of them focus on the bonds between your team mates overcoming an impossible wall (Polar Star Dorm vs Central/Straw Hat Pirates vs literally everyone)
-Neither of them have the buildup like other shonen. Characters are very strong to begin with and are presented with increasingly strong enemies to push them farther. However, it is executed in a way that makes it a goal, by setting a limit beforehand. (Elite 10, Yonko) read more

+A female side character who is elitist but later trusts the protagonist.

Both series are based upon a battle, in different ways. Shokugeki is a battle of creativity and cooking skills, whereas Kaguya-sama is a battle of love and power, essentially. But both involve a war-like environment involving intelligence on each front. 

This recommendation goes for all seasons of Shokugeki no Soma.

Food! Memories! Feelings! Are the main factors in which these two series are similar on. The two anime consists of the characters in their series eating food. After eating the food in the two series the characters either reminisces about their previous experiences while tasting it or describes the taste of the food.

Each of these is a gourmet anime juggernaut, although from different generations. If you watch Food Wars for the cooking and not for the clothes flying off, check out Oishinbo, one of the big 3 that launched the genre.

bit of a stretch but if you really enjoy the food aspects - the food wars, the food animation, the diner's over the top descriptions and imagery of the food as they eat them- then you'll probably enjoy both. They also both have a bit of comedy and hints of romance.

- Proceeds to completely WRECK everyone at his highschool and knock out competition
- Proves himself to everyone and has a loyal group of friends
- Protagonist is very capable and likable
- Entertaining to see the protagonist come up with new inventions
