Both are food anime. Yakitate Japan focuses on bread and Shokugeki no Souma focuses in food in general. The great thing about the two are the reactions the ones eating the food get. While Yakitate Japan's are extremely hilarious and comical, Shokugeki's are more ecchi but still amusing at the same time. Both are quite in depth in explaining the process of how the food is prepared and also have cooking type battles.

There is stakes competition against school establishments in both, complete with over the top character reactions that make both very enjoyable.

Cooking is love and cooking is life! Imagine living through the end of one’s lifetime without the pleasure of experiencing prominent cuisines, that would be nothing short of heartbreaking. ‘Shokugeki no Souma’ and ‘Koufuku Graffiti’ share an older brother - younger sister sibling relationship that will certainly put a smile on everyone’s face with the comedy, friendship and hardships along the way. ‘Koufuku Graffiti’ focuses more on the slice of life and the female side of things. The erotic satisfaction on food cannot be mentioned enough as it deliver joy and laughter in a fun experience. Cooking skills + creativity will be tested and  read more

The main male lead has the same voice actor. Secondly, both shows are in a setting where as long as you are good at what you're doing, you can duel under any condition, this applies to the academy and in elkia too, so long as both parties agree to the condition, any duel/bet can happen And yes both main protagonist are damn cocky XD

They involve food and cooking. Toriko is a battle Shounen while Food Wars is a mix of Slice of Life and shounen.

Both MCs are very passionate of their work and are not afraid to think out of the box to gain an advantage of a situation. They work their way around things that may seem impossible and will always see through things to the end. Their hard work and dedication is something that stands out from everyone else, which obviously attracts the attention from a variety of people naturally making them a leader of some sorts and a target for others. Many surprise moments and wow factors from both anime that will put you on the edge of your seat.

Both food based anime with similar anime styles, cute girls as fanservice, and an intense focus on descriptions, food reactions, and Japanese food culture.
report Recommended by TinyTabun
Both of these stories follow a very energetic main character striving to become better at what they do (volleyball and cooking). These MC's never give up no matter the cost. There are a large variety of different characters in each anime that help the mc. And, of course, there are rivals as well. The music and intensity of the matches (volleyball matches, shokugeki matches) are very similar, but Shokugeki no Souma has more comedy to it. All in all, these just look and feel very similar.

A boy goes to a special high school. Gin no Saji is about Hachiken trying to get used to the agricultural lifestyle, while Shokugeki no Souma is about Souma trying to become the best chef. They are both hilarious comedies involving delicious-looking food.

Although Yumeiro is targeted to a younger audience than Shokugeki, both revolve around food competitions and friendship, and make you want to eat a lot of delicious sparkling food! You'll learn a lot about culinary and both are very enjoyable as long as you love food and hard working characters.

Both are about cooking, and both feature red-haired protagonists who are excellent cooks and can use UBW.

Both centers a young boy who wants to pursue a career in Culinary arts. Although the difference between these two series is one focuses on Chinese cuisine while Shokugeki no Soma centers not only on Japanese cuisine but international cuisine as well. Also, Chuuka Ichiban centers in historical and fights off evil who uses food to conquer the world. I both like the two series as they both shine and has unique concept and to top it off only few cooking genre is animated so if you liked Shokugeki no Soma, you should try Chuuka Ichiban as well.

Both anime features food in a deliciously realistic way, though at different angles. Amaama to Inazuma shows step-to-step cooking tutorials for common homely Japanese food while Shokugeki no Souma combines both science and art to present creative fusion dishes according to various themes. Both animes use food as a bonding factor, where the characters bond over food and develop better relationships from it. Despite different settings and character types (e.g. genius youths vs single father and average students), both animes have feel good themes.

Food is *extremely* serious business, as these squadrons of busty beauties will be very eager to tell you. Fun fanservice shows where people wage wars over their cuisine. (literally and figuratively)
report Recommended by Keirik
I know its a weird recommendation really. BUT- they are both similar in their protagonist going through an elite environment to progress in their fields (obviously different fields). Super motivating competitiveness.

Similar cooking theme about two culinary prodigies. Ajiyoshi Yoichi is a culinary prodigy who manages the eating house together with his mother same with Yukihira Souma who manages their restaurant together with his father Yukihira Jouchiro. Both are geniuses when it comes to culinary skill and both of them keep on evolving, exploring and polishing their culinary skills to the highest level.

Even though both anime look and feel different, the main idea behind the two shows are the same. In Food Wars Souma attends a cooking school (Tootsuki Culinary Academy) while Midoriya attends a school that trains heroes (UA High). Both Souma and Midoriya has untapped potential and grows steadily over the course of the series. Just like Souma's wish is to bypass his father, Midoriya wants to be the successor for All Might. Both shows have tournaments and battles and unforgettable side characters.

While the stories are considerably different, I believe that if you enjoyed one, you will definitely enjoy the other. Both shows are concentrated fast-paced fun with a knack for over-the-top craziness. Another common element which immediately made me think of the other anime is creatively used ecchi. The shows use eye candy in a way that is usually appealing or at least excusable even to people who usually avoid it like a plague. Lastly, there's a similarity in the setting (school) and the rough plot outline (rising through the ranks to fight the main antagonist, an arrogant young girl).
report Recommended by Ishikatsu
Similar MC. Both of the MC's are superior to other characters. The animation is smooth an visuals are gorgeus. Both also have a catchy opening song and great soundtracks.

If either of these shows tickled your fancy, and you were drawn in by the shounen inspired battles, or the drive of the main characters to become the very best and eclipse the skills of all the others, or maybe you were just there to enjoy a bit of ecchi, then it's likely the other one is gonna appease you aswell. Both shows follow a dark-horse of a main character, whose mix of skills and drive takes them through the ranks and shocks the world around them. Even though the themes of both are different there are quite a few similarities between both of these animes - Both animes are set in an elite school setting - Student Council holds a lot of authority over the school - Special tests are taken, and those who perform poorly face persecution and sometimes even expulsion from academy - Various groups form within the student body centering the influential ones - The goal of the animes are to take over the top spot of the school

Both have a son trying to live up to the standards of their father. Both are about being put through challenges in order to achieve their final goal while making friends along the way. The main characters are similar in their stubbornness and outspoken nature. Both main characters are considered stupid and inferior by most until they prove themselves to be great.

Both shows involve eating. While Dagashi Kashi is more candy shop oriented, Shokugeki no Souma takes place inside the Totsuki's academy/ Yukihira father's restaurant. Add over the top reactions and you basically got very yummy and tasty animes.. Add crazy characters around MC and you will get over the top comedy... It's basically the same show.....or not....

Both shows are really good at showcasing their respective professions (cooking/music), and fully explore the highs and lows of being 100% dedicated to their craft. Both shows feature a main character that is a master (or former master) of music/cooking, with a second character that is relatively weak/shy who grows tremendously by learning from the main character. Through these characters, the shows explore just how cruel these professions can be, requiring the students to devote themselves for long hours over weeks, just for a chance at success. Notably, Shokugeki takes place in a school featuring the world's top culinary students, but only 1% of that group makes  read more

Both have strongly competitive characters and a thrill of the contest, and the main characters use their skills to try to inspire and change the people around them.

Both series are based upon a battle, in different ways. Shokugeki is a battle of creativity and cooking skills, whereas Kaguya-sama is a battle of love and power, essentially. But both involve a war-like environment involving intelligence on each front. This recommendation goes for all seasons of Shokugeki no Soma.

Both feature food tasting, cooking competition, japanese and italian dishes, a girl with big breasts, and tanned girl with big cleavage, a condescending loli, an italian guy and an old man who is the ultimate authority on food tasting.

Both are ecchi/shonen anime with smug rivals and clueless protagonists. Shokugeki is way more humorous, and Fire force has better animation and sound design.

Both of the main characters go to school that specializes in their field; for Soma it's cooking for Jaden/Judai it's dueling, Crowler/Erina want the MCs to leave also both protagonists are really good at their respective fields.

Food! Memories! Feelings! Are the main factors in which these two series are similar on. The two anime consists of the characters in their series eating food. After eating the food in the two series the characters either reminisces about their previous experiences while tasting it or describes the taste of the food.

Both possess rivals instead of enemies and story about people perfecting their craft, rather than focusing on destroying their opponents.

The plot progression is very similar, firstly, like any other shounen, the main char aims for the top, secondly, their tools/methods are similar, they are trained/pushed by an enigmatic single dad and soma uses "cheap" public "low end" materials competiting with people from a prestige background while takumi on the other hand kickass with his 86

bit of a stretch but if you really enjoy the food aspects - the food wars, the food animation, the diner's over the top descriptions and imagery of the food as they eat them- then you'll probably enjoy both. They also both have a bit of comedy and hints of romance.

Both animes focus on teenagers perfecting their skills. in Dumbell nan kilo moteru, its the exercising and working out, whereas in Shokugeki no soma, its cookery and cuisine. Both animes go in depth about informing accurately about the theme, in Dumbbell, various parts of the body, muscles, proper forms of exercises and in Food wars, different cuisines of the world. Its about teenagers being guided by the geniuses in their respective fields. Certain types of reaction of the characters are similar in both the animes which led me to draw the comparison in the first place.

I know this might sound absurd, but bear with me. Both are what I would call "non-traditional sports anime," and I mean that in the way they are crafted. Air Gear is obviously not technically a "sports," anime, as it is rather a comedic deconstruction or parody of the series. Street racing outside of school may still technically be a sport, but it lacks the school element that rests in so many school anime. Likewise with Food Wars, the intense battles on the floor plays out very similarly to a traditional sports anime, and the intense action scenes match this theory as well. While cooking  read more

If you like Jojo's bizarre adventure, Food wars is made for you. If Jojo is about fights and stands, then food wars is about cooking battle and ustensils, in each Jojo episode there is a new fighter with a new stand, and each character must use their abilities to face the adversary. Well this is exactly the same in Shokugeki no Soma, in each episode, there's a new battle, of course the main characters use different techniques, like Jotaro's and Polnareff's stands can use their environment, or anything, cookers can use different tools, different casseroles, ovens, sauces, spices, ingredients, each character has his own abilities  read more

Both of these titles revolve around food. The difference is that Shokugeki has a lot more to offer, in that not only will it touch ramen, it will touch a large number of other dishes. It also touches cooking and not just eating it. However, the character development of Shokugeki will feel more like standard fare, since, it is a shounen. Koizumi on the other hand is specialized to Ramen only. It also primarily focuses on eating and loving it rather than talk about how to cook it. Similar to how Shokugeki no Souma (Food Wars) is an over the top parody of cooking and chef competitions, Birdie Wing: Golf Girl's Story is an over the top parody of golfing competitions. Eve, the protagonist of Birdie Wing, is an obscure talent clawing her way into major golf competitions similar to how Souma in Food Wars came from an obscure background to shake the world of fine cooking. Birdie Wings has a cast with quirky characters that would seem at home in Food Wars. Eve's signature golf drive is even named "Chokugeki no Blue Bullet" (Direct Strike Blue Bullet).

Despite their different settings - modern Japan chef school + 19th Century China - both of these have a hilarious view on cooking. Whilst following the gorgeous cooking skills of our main characters, both have to partake in almost ridiculous cooking challenges, in true action form, against god-level chefs in the same challenge expertise. Both are funny, enjoyable, slightly nail biting and hilarious.

"Food Wars: Shokugeki no Souma" and "Sushi and Beyond" / "Eikoku Ikke, Nihon wo Taberu" both involve comprehensive cooking and explanation behind the way each dish is made alongside reactions of tasting delicious food. In addition, the two series depict cooking competitions, but with the former being more dramatic in its approach and the latter taking a very realistic direction.

Anime about cooking, focusing on a detailed way of how to prepare a food. Both of them have some unusual aspect to cooking - Shokugeki no Souma has cooking battles while Dungeon Meshi is aboud food made from monsters.

One of my more surprise recommendations. Both anime have the main characters attending a prestigious school that's well renown in their respective universes. There's a similar balance of comedy and fanservice in both anime and the supporting characters are colorful and feel lively. Both main characters (Maka and Soma) are trying to achieve the highest possible titles in their school as well.

Both anime are set in a school dorm in high school that are co-ed with some VERY eccentric students that are each gifted in some way. In Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo's place it was art, in Shokugeki no Souma's case it is cooking. The major basis of the comedy though is still that they live in a co-ed dorm, with eccentric personalities, creating over-the-top slapstick humor with the occasional ecchi thrown in. Main difference in genre is the romantic undertones in Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo.
report Recommended by yngtadpole
Like, Shokugeki no Souma, Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou is in another co-ed living environment with hilarious slap-stick comedy featuring two high school students but also mixed in with older roommates. Also amazingly consistent comedy with extremely eccentric characters. Because both involve some eccentric personalities living in a co-ed environment the comedic tone is similar but without the romantic-based narrations that Kawai Complex's main character had.

You're in it to win it, both anime revolve around such a theme as the characters are taken to a luxury facility and put in a situation of competition as they compete to better their own lives. Kaiji differs being a more brutal as a seinen anime, revolving around gambling. While Souma is much more light-hearted with its input of comedy and shounen demographic whilst revolving around cooking. So, if your a fan of competition anime, that involves strategy and wit you'll probably like both series.
