Both of these Anime are dark Gothic revolving around the unusual romance a guy has with... a girl out of horror who just wants to be... normal... and not a monster.

If the main protagonist had their way, they'd have nothing to do with the supernatural, but the supernatural ends up having a way of finding them. And also, let's not forget the main character, he ends up in a romantic relationship with what some would call an ambition. Chaos, of course, follows.

If you're fan of comedy involving supernatural beings or certain day when a normal character becomes abnormal, then Sankarea and Blood Lad are two series that should be worth a try. They both involve the concept in which a normal character who recently died returns to life but no longer are the same as they are before. They must adjust to their new living conditions and often faces new strange twists with the "life" they live now. Both series has a lot of comedy and fun dialogues. The character interactions are also amusing to watch. At the same time, expect little bits of romance development along with  read more

Both series involve around romantic comedy and the whole undead theme. Both male protagonists seems to have an indifferent attitude towards life but seems to later change through chance encounters with other various characters. Both series contains light hearted comedy and some fan-service to spice things up.

Both are zombie animes, other than that these two are completley different.Sankerea is about trying to prolong a zombie girls life while Highschool of the Dead is just about escaping from the zombie infestation. But you dont find many zombie animes so if your a zombie fan like me you'll enjoy both.

Similar plotline - cousin love with an unhuman rival + flashback filler episodes.

Similarly trippy styles of direction. Protagonists who mess with the supernatural in somewhat serious ways. Fanservice. Fanservice. Fan. Service.

The main characters happen to form a relationship with someone who is a zombie. The goal is to eventually find a cure so that the "zombie" won't pass away.
report Recommended by Yemi_Hikari
If you like watching zombie in a cute and comedic manner, these shows are the best choice. Keep in mind that Sankarea tend to focus on the romance and drama between the main characters, as opposed to Zombieland Saga which is using over-the-top comedy as its main selling point.

Same strange boy/girl relationship with many misunderstood mysteries to be solved. same art style and performance. no blood and gore, but zombies!

Shikabane is almost like a darker Sankarea. The female character is even a dark version of the main female character in Sankarea. They're both daughters of wealthy families, they are both zombies, they both get close to the male the spend time with.

Both feature teenage girls who chose a severe form of escapism in order to get away from their abusive fathers.

Both Sankarea and Kokoro Connect present themselves as a supernatural romantic comedy - and they indeed are. However, on top of that, they also deal with a lot of darker and more serious drama; and blend these two aspects together very well. Both also entail a few people trying to keep a supernatural secret, exploring the depressing backstories of the main cast; and two female characters being in love with the male lead, though he only loves one of them.

-Both have main female character are same. Personality wise. -Hiyori turned into half-spirit while Sankarea's main female character turned into a zombie. -Hiyori grew a tail while Rea's eyes turn red. -Both have a supernatural and romance genre. -Main male characters are almost the same. -Both animes have 12 episodes.

Both Sankarea and Ano Natsu de Matteru are romance genre. The male protagonists falls in love with a girl that isn't human, and many things occurred to try to stop the male and female protagonists together. However, they still try their best to stay together.

Supernatural vampire shows in which vampires look and behave nothing like how they were portrayed in the Western fantasies. In fact, vampires wear bright, colorful clothes and is not turned into beasts by their blood-lust. Granted though, that Shiki is a dark show with very brutal scenes while Sankarea is much more light-hearted.

Both have a crazy old man that's obsessed with the female main character and taking nude pictures of her, and both girls aren't regular humans.

Its very similar in every way. two different stories, but the catch is they are very similar in nature. Sankarea is a zombie girl, while happy sugar life is a young girl. but the topics carried, and the feeling of both of these anime is very much the same. its a dark story, a pedophile father, and a girl that turns into a zombie, and does horrific things when you get into the manga. its much the same, but the vibe you get when watching both is the same.... its dark and gruesome, and weighted with emotion. also, its written by the writers of Pupa. if you like  read more

On both the main characters meet accidentally, and both revolve around a tragedy.

Both start off as fairly lighthearted and innocent anime but quickly delve into more serious themes such as incest and pedophilia. Even though they are dealing with these mature topics, they never take things seriously and instead entertain with their quirky characters and comedic situations. In addition, both plots feature an unsuspecting male lead who suddenly has to take care of a girl desperately in need of his help. Overall, both have very similar vibes to them and I think that if you enjoyed one you will likely enjoy the other. Hell, I think Sankaera could easily be called "there's no way my little zombie  read more

Both of these anime are about a girl adjusting to a 'new world' and being taken in by our protagonist (also a boy in C3). Both have a running romantic theme. Both of the main plots of these anime are reliant on the acceptance of the main character of the girl's odd quirks (like Rea being a zombie and Fear being cursed are quirks) C3 is slightly heavier than Sankarea and puts more focus on side characters. This anime is also quite action packed.

They are both about lover trying to be together and they both have there own problem to worry about. In one a a zombie girl that is decaying and in Isshuukan friend it is amnesia on the girl side

Combining elements of horror and comedy, with a good amount of fanservice. Sankerea uses these around it's romance, while Mieruko-chan focuses on Miko, its female main character, and her friends. Both have slower paced plots, with Sankerea a bit quicker, and give a fair amount of depth to the central characters. Both have a school setting and also feature cats a lot

Both fun and enjoyable but far from great, emo teens, family trauma, fetishes

These two anime have a similar concept with a human falling in love with someone who is not a human/monster. They both focus on the idea on having feelings for someone who is not human and how it affects each other. These two anime also have comedy and a decent amount of blood. I think fans of one will definitely appreciate the other.

Both anime depict a romantic relationship between a young boy and a zombie.

Angel of Death and Sankarea are anime series that revolve around themes of life, death, and the dark past of the characters. Both series feature protagonists who are somewhat obsessed with death. Additionally, both series have a dark and macabre tone throughout, with moments of horror and suspense. Both series also feature characters with unique powers related to death and resurrection. These two anime also have the theme of romance but with a dark twist and both female protagonists have gone through a hard time and found love in an unusual way.

Main heroine is non-confident girl with "father" problems Accidentally, she changes in mythical way (possessed by ghost / becomes zombie) Male lead try care about her, they live in the same house Energetic childhood friend inclining in their romantic development Despite supenatural state, main heroine tries her best to live like normal human, that leads to comedy, drama and (ofcourse) ecchi

Main characters are trying to ressurect their loved ones.

A supernatural romantic comedy where a the FMC, a sweet girl with daddy issues, suddenly becomes a supernatural being and is taken in by and taken care of by the MMC, her future love interest. While both comedies, Sankarea is a lot more serious while Kamisama Hajimemashita is mostly lighthearted with a small amount of drama.
report Recommended by lycheejane
Sankarea is about zombies yes, but it all starts with a boy ressurecting his pet cat he can't let go of. Nyan Koi! is about cut kitties yes, but it's also about pennance for a curse. These shows both have a great sense of humor, and in a way they're both about a 'cursed' main character. Also, they both deserved to be a season or two longer.

Sankarea reminds me a lot of Penguindrum. When watching the first few episodes I got that same wonderful feeling that I got when watching Penguindrum, that this anime was going to be great. The hilarious thing is that Sankarea and Penguindrum both have Ryohei Kimura in it. Both anime also have storylines about parents who were abusive and the background music is very similar too. I am sure if you like Sankarea you will like Penguindrum and if you like Penguindrum you will like Sankarea :)

Despite the fact that one is shounen and the other is shoujo, they are actually quite similar to each other as far as the atmosphere and the way the shows ~feel~. The romance in both is slow and quite adorable. Rea and Sawako also have somewhat similar personalities.

At first the romance doesnt exist between the main heroine and hero, but only when the main Heroine is thrown into a supernatural ailment does the hero grow affection for her.

Supernatural fills the void for both of these series. In both anime(s), there is the female lead with a mystery. The MC of both series becomes friends of them and learns more about their character. Incidents happen and events foretold as episodes progresses. There is comedy, romance, and a source of mixed in mystery about the main plot. Both series also takes place in a school-like setting.
report Recommended by Stark700
In both series the main characters help each other out. In Sankarea: the main female is in a dire situation which involves the main guy. Similarly in Dog and Scissor but the opposite.
report Recommended by AnimeFan500
Both are about the relationship between undead and reviver, but "Princess Ressurrection" seems to be more comedy then Sankarea.
report Recommended by Joyless
There is an abnormal and obsessive love for someone, in Mirai Nikki Yuno for Yukki and in Sankarea the father of Rea for her, you will think that kind of love is not normal in both anime, if you want to see a crazy and obsessive love I recommend both. Mirai Nikki is higher in that and darker and Sankarea has dark setting too but with more comedy and romance.
report Recommended by darkuria
If you like the main protagonist and the kind of romantic relationship in one, I'm sure you'll like them in the other because Sankarea and speed grapher have very similar background setting for the main girl.
report Recommended by movoning
The premises are entirely different, but they do share some similarities -the protagonist in both is a teenage boy -both have comedy, drama, and supernatural aspects -the girls in both come from extremely strict/weird families and live sheltered/unhealthy lives, and the boy protagonist tries to rescue/protect the girl from her family
report Recommended by sleepy_rebel
Both revolve around a protagonist taking care off a odd girl Denpa Onna is slightly less dark, though.

Both main guy has to take care of a girl. The difference between these two anime is that the girl in Chobits is a ROBOT! while the girl in Sankarea is a ZOMBIE! Both anime has dark theme and very serious drama and some ecchi moments. Although more comedy in Chobits

Both main guy has to take care of a girl. The difference between these two anime is that the girl in Dragon Crisis is a Dragon! while the girl in Sankarea is a ZOMBIE! Both anime is definitely worth watching and both anime deserve a second season!

An odd boy ends up living with an already dead girl (a ghost in Ano Hana, a zombie in Sankarea). Note that the "odd" and "already dead" parts are portrayed differently. Then; as the days of living together go by, some romance starts to bloom. The two are very different in what they're trying to be though. Ano Hana aims for drama while Sankarea aims for a romcom type of story.

both of these are deal with Comedies and Monster, and they both also have Romance with between Human and Monster.

Both animes have to do with a boy falling in love with a "monster" girl. Both have to do with dangerous "monsters" and myths Both have the MC looking after the girl Pretty much the same as far as main couple go except Sankarea has zombies, while this one has demons
report Recommended by Choujo_Momo
Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru doesn't have anything related to zombies or the undead, but the love story moves on the same plot. Both anime tell about how the main protagonist treasures someone they love and how he tries to solve her problem.

While ef - a tale of melodies has mainly the love story and the drama genres, Sankarea can't be complete without its zombies. Even though the anime are not similar in terms if the context of their story, I can only point out the likeness of two characters from each of the anime. That is Yuuko (from ef - a tale of melodies/memories) and Rea Sanka (from Sankara). I don't want to spoil any of the details, but let me just hint out that both grew up the same way. Either way, both are excellent anime. Enjoy.

The moment I saw the main female character I got Sankarea in mind, its very similar in drawing, personality and talking style, note both animes have completly different plot, sankarea consists in a zombie fanatic who wants to have a undead girlfriend and Flying Witch is a slice of life with a witch as the main character. Although the differences I think if you liked Flying Witch and like zombies you will like Sankarea.
