Nice Princess and the Pilot review. I agree w it being a refreshing movie acting as a break from those "Insane plot twist" anime.

Apologies for the delayed reply.

I've finished K, and I'll review it when I get some free time - but I have a backlog to finish first and the awards and top ten for last year so it may be a while.

What does liking Light have to do anything? Regardless, I went into I expecting something great but it was sadly disappointing. I've finished the series and there were no redeeming qualities.

Heh.

Girl. You mentioned prejudice against yaoi and shoujo manga. Cause I'm a straight guy. Guess what, girl. What you're doin' is generalizing, same what others do for BL. Just like many guys don't read/watch BL/shoujo stuff cause of prejudice, you instantly assume THAT A STRAIGHT GUY WON'T READ IT CAUSE HE ALREADY HAS A FORMED OPINION ON IT. And that's where you're wrong, see, girl.

I READ YAOI STUFFS. Yeah man, I find it pretty cool. I actually prefer a good BL story to any romantic comedy out there. Shit man, I remember goin' nuts cause of drama in Junjou Romantica and shit. K, Durarara, Kuroshitsuji 2 ( Second season yeah, which has much much much more BL hints and shit. ) are all heavily BL implied animes and I love 'em all. Just like I like Madoka, which has some yuri implications and stuff. Hell, I even ship some shit, like idk, Mikoto/Misaki would do a great doujin imo and all dat jazz.

SEE, even though I'm straight, all genders are actually equal to me. My favorite character is Lio Shirazumi, from the seventh Kara no Kyoukai movie, a bisexual psychopath. You'd like that one the most, since it's both plot and character driven, and it's characters are similar to K's. Kara no Kyoukai is meant to be seen whole before being given a score. It's meant to be seen in it's fucked up order and all dat shit, yanno.

So no need to recommend me to read anything. Since I ain't one of that kind you thought I was. But others are. And you can't blame them for not liking it, actually, you'll be just doin' worse by keeping up with this shit.

See, majority doesn't like K, yeah. AND WHY SHOULD WE GIVE A FUCK. It's score on MAL won't really affect DVD/BD sales, so don't worry, we'll get more of the story.
In the end, the only things that matters is that /we/ love it and understand it, so yeah.

Relax, and take your time to remember. ;)

*sigh*

Look, I am not looking down on you for liking K. I'm just saying that my score of it is due to the fact that I wasn't sold on its characters nor it's plot. I didn't find it emotionally engaging and I wouldn't even say it was because "I didn't go into it with the right mindset." I get very emotionally invested when it comes to anime. Hell, I smile, laugh, and cry harder at anime than I do at anything else in life. I could probably re-watch the whole series from beginning to end again and still not enjoy it. Granted, I have no interest in going back and re-watching it.

The difference between Angel Beats and K, to me, was I found Angel Beats characters to be more engaging and endearing. I can overlook flaws if the characters have this trait, but they didn't to me. I also didn't find the the flaws to be nearly as glaring as they were in K. Although, personal beliefs can play a role in how you view Angel Beats plot whereas that isn't so much the case with K.

Honestly, I'm going to say this now, quit telling me what or how I should've scored K. MAL permits us to score anime for a reason. If we all had the same opinion, then there would be no topic for debate. You're obviously not happy that I gave it a 6 and I'm obviously not happy you gave it a 10. Judging by your list, it seems I'm much more strict when it comes to judging anime than you are and I'm completely okay with that. I'm very critical when it comes to anime. You can whine and complain to me about "how I'm not watching it with the right mindset" all you want, I can easily counter that with "I don't think you're watching K well enough on a technical level." Seriously, we could go back and forth all day with this but alas, I'm calling it a day.

Just remember, you came to me complaining about how I scored it. I could have a field day complaining about the scores you've given anime but I'll refrain due to the fact I've got better things to do with my time.

Sorry, but your approach to Howl's so fucking wrong. Allow me to elaborate.

Did you read Red Riding Hood? Or I dunno, Cinderella, Puss in Boots or w/e.

Those stories are known as masterpieces of literature, yet even if you analyze them for years, you won't find shit about character development in Red Riding Hood. It's a fairytale, which carries a certain message and that's it.

Same applies to Howl. Howl's a fairytale. And considering it's fairytale structure, Howl's doin' a great fuckin' job on havin' an epic plot and decent character development. Character development in it is subtle, but strong and you need to watch a movie at least a couple of times more before you say things such as 'bad movie, no plot/character development.

K's imo the best anime of the season, certainly better than the first half of Psycho-Shit, but let's be honest; Miyazaki is Miyazaki.

You can't compare that shit. GoHands WOULDN'T like you to compare it.

Meh, by saying you love BL stories, you pretty much leave no impression on anyone who dislikes K, cause it rightfully shows them that you're seeing shit that isn't there, you're fallin' for dat fujoshi fanservice. It's there, yes, but it's just like Neko's tits, irrelevant to the story.
I know that you see Mikoto lovin' Totsuka more than a friend and Saruhiko wantin' to bed Misaki, no matter whatcha say.

I ain't surprised you didn't like KnK 5 much, but it sucks that you've judged it without watching the other movies in the series. (At least other movies aren't listed in your list, so yah. Jesus Christ, watchin' first than fifth KnK movie... -Facepalm.-

Yes, I have seen Studio Ghibli films before. Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away are two of my favorite anime films. Unfortunately, those are the only two Studio Ghibli films I've ever seen. I won't argue with you on that one because, like I've said, I've only seen two of their films and both of them are masterpieces in my opinion.

I really don't read very much manga so I can't argue with you when it comes to manga. The only manga I've really ever read was Bleach, because I was sick of the anime fillers and it ended before the last arc, D. Gray-Man since the anime ended abruptly, Fairy Tail, because the anime kept throwing in horrible filler arcs, and Code:Breaker, because it seemed like an interesting shonen. I'm currently not reading any manga...I just don't enjoy reading manga all that much...but then again, as you can see from my list, my selection in manga is not that good. It's just too time consuming to watch anime AND read manga for me personally because I have several other hobbies outside of watching anime.

I can spot a masterful storyteller myself. I'm an avid reader, most of the anime I watch (or at the very least enjoy) are more plot and character driven. I'd rather watch those than mindless shonen anime that throws story to the side for action scenes. I try not to brag about this, but I'm also an aspiring novelist. I'm observant when it comes to different types of storytelling because it is an influence to the sort of storyteller I want to be. The novel series I am currently working on is extremely character driven. Angel Beats, my all-time favorite anime IS a character driven anime. In a lot of ways, Angel Beats and K are very comparable. Angel Beats!'s story was character driven, lacked some character development, but at the same time had enough to move the story along and actually "move" the viewer. Hell, one irony between the two animes is both had a MC that had amnesia (or false memories), but that's a little beside the point. I've spoken with several Angel Beats viewers besides myself that were moved by the side stories of each character, so much so they were brought to tears. I won't lie in stating that Angel Beats to this day has made me cry harder than any anime I had ever seen. K, on the other hand, I didn't find to be that moving. The most "complete" characters in the series was Mikoto Suoh, and surprising, Adolph K. Weismann, who didn't play a major factor until halfway through the series. Like I said, the series lacked focus. There wasn't enough character development behind a certain set of characters to build much of an emotional attachment between the viewer and the characters. I'm amazed you were able to become attached to the characters because I certainly couldn't from the lack of development they all had. I wouldn't even really say it was because it had shoujo elements. Unlike a lot of viewers, that didn't turn me off from the series. Then again, I have some pretty good friends who are gay and I spend quite a bit of time with them. If nothing else, I find that sort of relationship admirable and courageous, especially those who are open about it. I will admit that I don't watch a lot of shoujo or BL, but not really because I dislike it, more along the lines that I haven't found one that I can say piqued my interest in regards to plot and characters. The closest I've probably watched with elements of shoujo is probably GetBackers and the only reason why I gave it a poor score is due to it's lack of a conclusion. I actually really enjoyed that series for a while until it kept dragging out with no end in sight and then abruptly ended it without a solid conclusion.

I'm sorry to keep pouring this on, but I just get the impression that you think I'm being ignorant toward K. I'm not. In my opinion, it just didn't seem like the writers were focused enough with their characters nor were the relationships between the characters really that moving outside of Suoh toward his comrades and Weismann toward his subjects. I found Weismann really to be the only real moving character in the series. He was the only character I found to be endearing. The others felt like they were just "there" to move things along. I do think part of the problem with this series is it introduced A LOT of characters and didn't have nearly enough episodes to hash them all out. It introduced a lot of sub-plots that turned out to be half-assed because there wasn't enough time to explain all of them thoroughly. If you liked K, then great, that's all that matters. I know how it feels to have someone step all over your favorite anime. Hell, I've had a lot of people rip me for having Angel Beats as my all-time favorite anime and in my review of it, I called it "the best flawed anime I had ever seen." Although, I am slightly biased when it comes to Angel Beats because the sub-plot about Yui (if you ever watch the series) hit WAY too close to home for me since I have a sister who is EXACTLY like her in both personality and situation. The problems I had with K was there were too many flaws to overlook and the characters were not endearing enough for me to enjoy. That's not a good combination for being a great anime. I'm honestly surprised you were so persistent toward me about your views with K because I was much more generous toward it in my review than a lot of people.
