it should have been a one-episode OVA. The first episode was pretty good and set up an interesting premise. It quickly went downhill after that. All the character are thin and underdeveloped. They all get one or two traits and that's it. I couldn't tell you much about the main character besides the fact that he hated his job. The story is predictable and ends on schmaltzy bullshit about connections with other people being good and following your dreams, as if you haven't heard that a million times before. There were some good action scenes and creative moments, but the premise and characters are too ...

Yugioh Arc V is a great tribute to Yugioh’s history up to that point. The nods to the other shows could have easily overtaken Arc V, but the show knows to keep its focus on the main characters. The duels were fun and did not overstay their welcome (with a few exceptions). The characters were nothing special. Yuya has the same youthful idiot personality like a lot of the previous protagonists and his life interest is just The Girl. But they weren’t annoying like in Zexal, I even liked some of them. It was a nice return to form for the franchise. I would be ...

I loved Ranking of Kings, it touched me on a personal level that no anime had until now. I stutter. It isn’t my defining trait and it's not a secret. I don’t see a lot of representation of people who stutter or have speech difficulties in media and when I do, it usually goes a long way. I could not help identifying with Bojii as he was teased by the other kids and even more so when he let the mask slip when he was alone. He's portrayed as a character first and diagnosis second. He does not let his faults get in the way ...

Preliminary (6/64 eps)
When I first set out to watch GT, I knew it had a bad reputation. It was worse than I expected. I couldn't take anymore after six episodes. The plot actually has some promise, it's a standard "we have to collect the mcguffins" plot, but that served to take the show off Earth and show off some new planets. It's a shame that none of the ones I saw were very interesting. The new characters are annoying. Pen is a whiny brat and they meet a robot along the way who cannot go two minutes without repeating his name. The returning characters do not get ...

I was ready to write off Zexal II as just as bad as the first series. Fortunately, Zexal II is slightly better. Not by much, but better is better. The show doesn’t really get going until season 2 when they go full sci-fi and that’s pretty fun. It feels like this was the show the creators were waiting to get to during the original series. I just don’t know why they waited so long. There was one twist in particular I really enjoyed. I recommend this only for diehard Yu-Gi-Oh fans. It still has the problems of the previous episodes and doesn’t come close to ...

Samurai Champloo is one of those anime that are best watched with a group. I watched it with a few friends of mine and most episodes had several moments that made us laugh out loud. The show somehow manages to nail both the comedy and serious moments. The three leads are all fun characters in their own right and bounce off each other well. Even Fu, who could have been written off as the token girl character is well-rounded and a blast to watch. The anachronisms add to the charm of the show. It is as if the show is saying, “yeah, we know this ...

Preliminary (10/12 eps)
I really liked Made in Abyss season one (I gave the first season 9 out of 10). It was a breath of fresh air. While other shows focused on battles, Made in Abyss focused on survival and discovery. Other shows had characters who were too strong to lose while Riko and Reg were constantly overwhelmed. Then season two came along. In theory, I don’t mind that the show changed, I just don’t like what it changed into. Most of the action and survival elements are gone, replaced with long, boring exposition. Lore can be interesting but it shouldn't be the focus on a show. The ...

Spy x Family (Anime) add
Good, but not as good as everyone said it is. It’s really funny. Anya is by far the best character. Sometimes it gets a little too schmaltzy for my tastes, about how much they love each other and such. That's not bad, it's just not my thing. The plots often hang around misconceptions and feel like they are out of a rom-com. Sometimes I wished the main characters would just sit down and talk, but there wouldn't be wacky hi-jinks if that happened. Overall, if you’re looking for a good, breezy comedy, you’ll like this one, but it is definitely over hyped.

Zexal is the middle stepchild of Yugioh. It’s not iconic like the original series, funny like GX, or ambitious like 5D’s, but boy, it’s trying really hard. The whole thing feels very by the numbers. It does not do anything new or interesting, it takes no risks. Yuma is an overly enthusiastic moron who loves card games but also often shows disinterest in them. The villains are stock and have little motivation. Tori is girl. There is not enough of the Best Boy, Flip. The plot was simple and unnecessarily complicated at the same time. I stopped trying to follow it not because it was ...

Odd Taxi (Anime) add
Mixed Feelings
The story of Oddtaxi is comprised of several subplots. Some of which I liked and some I did not, but I enjoyed the series overall. The plot was a little hard to follow, with juggling so man subplots. I felt like having five or six of them was a little much, even if they did come together at the end. It took a while to get going, but I don't blame the show for it, it needed time to build up all of the subplots. The twist at the end was fun and explained a few things I did not realize needed explaining. it did ...
