The “second season” for a lot of anime series tends to bring out amazing set-pieces, better story progression as well as the fact that, since the show was successful in the first place, the viewers would love to see more of it. Haikyuu: Second Season is a hidden gem that I loved for the first season, but this second season especially, for the first 13 episode and beyond held a special place in my heart because it was this show during Fall of 2015 that literally brought me back up to speed in terms of my education and just real life struggles. The mental impact
...
it had on me during the first half of the season is something I can’t really share, but I can give you a glimpse of what to expect from the second season of this phenomenal Sports/Shonen anime.
The first season ended with a cliff-hanger where, Karasno saw the end of their inter-high tournament at the hand of one of the powerhouses of volleyball, Aoba Josai. This specific event sets precedence for the second season where Karasno has to make a choice to either get better as they practice more, or evolve the current style of play to something that can stand up against a powerhouse. New teams and characters are introduced in the series and for the first half of the season; it’s ALL about CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. THIS is how you do character development. Showing the characters struggle to improve in the game with the emotion and tension that come with it. Each character that the show focuses on had some part in that struggle and the way it was portrayed in the anime was nothing short of amazing. To me personally, it was something really relatable at the time as I myself was going through some struggles during the first half of the season. They weren’t the same but the crux of it was essentially relatable.
In terms of the animation, Production I.G. knew exactly where to spend their budget and how to make full use of it. The animation is nothing short of outstanding and something that should be considered High-Quality. The fluidity of movements from the hair all the way to the full body movements and action scenes are done with precision work and something the company should be really proud for. This is quality animation and nothing less. As for the soundtrack, it’s amazing and fits the mood perfectly and if I had the opportunity, I would buy and listen to.
Overall, I would say that Haikyuu second season is a real master piece. It has a full on training arc with major character developments, a thrilling tournament to boot and great lessons and struggles for people to learn from. The animation is top notch, the OST is freaking amazing and the story is overall progressing smoothly and greatly. I really hope you got something out of this review and I wish if you checked out the first season to check out the second one as well. The great news is that the THIRD SEASON has been announced so we can all look forward to that!

In the past, there have been various authors who have attempted to create story genera’s that would become a distinct category of their own. There have been those who had success and those who meet with failures. One of these genera’s is Food anime/manga and Shokugeki no Souma is that example which mixes food and shonen aspects of action and suspense so well that… let’s just say it is freaking outstanding and downright praise worthy. In this review/preview I will tell you as to WHY you should watch this show and be awed by how amazing and creative this show is and it would make
...
you hungry every single time you watch it.
Let’s start off with the story. You have the main character named Yukihira Souma who runs a restaurant named Yukihira with his father. It’s a small diner that you usually find in small communities all around world in pretty much every city anywhere. Once day, something business related comes up that his father needs to attend and at the right time and his dad Juichiro decided to send Souma to the best chef academy called Toutsuki Academy to learn and become a great and qualified chef within the next 3 years. Souma as a character is very unique and someone who I have rarely encountered in the anime’s I’ve watched. After being in the kitchen with his dad since the age of six, he develops a personality like his father and faces everything head on with a smile on his face. The story sets a goal for Souma after episode one of wanting to become the best chef in Toutsuki’s history. This sets the goal for the story and with it creates a universe with boundless arcs and adventures. He encounters another main character named Nakiri Erina but I can’t get into much of her without spoiling, but I will say that she’s a tsundre and cute!
The reason I mention Shokugeki no Souma is so unique is because it has action in it. Yes, it has fights but not the type you would ever expect. These are 1vs1 battles fought by individual chefs called Shokugeki’s, where there are conditions are laid out by and agreed upon by both opponents and after they fight it out and see who wins and loses. There are also instances where the chefs who are being looked down upon just want to prove a point that they are more than people ought to see them as. The way these Shokugeki’s and cooking battles are fought and the whole concept of a struggle being portrayed in this manner is what got me so hooked to this show since day one. Most people get turned off by this, because it’s a cooking show and no one really wants to watch it, but I can guarantee you that you will not be disappointed once you finish the first episode.
The animation and soundtrack are really well done. J.C Staff was working on various shows in the spring and summer season of 2015 and they’ve kept up with great animation and consistency with proper character designs voice actors are superb.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I’ve been reading Shokugeki no Souma since the very beginning and the animation in my opinion does full justice to the manga from the battles all the way to the pretty much uncensored fan service which is always a kudos for people who are into that sort of thing. I would highly advise people to check this show out as its one of these hidden gems that people would look over just because of the title and its looks. Trust me, you’ll enjoy this show very much if you have similar taste as mine. Thank you for reading this review and I hope you enjoy the show!

“Will my music be able to reach them?” – Miyazono Kaori
All I can say is that, the music reached the hearts of more than just three people. It reached the audience of thousands and beyond! Such is the beauty of how magnificent and amazing this story of a boy who ends up hating the music he had been playing for years due to something traumatic only to have it cured by a girl under a full bloomed cherry blossoms beginning to change the boy’s fate.
The story is about middle school kids, but it’s much more than that. It’s a story about the love for
...
music and people, an emotional joyride that can’t be described in just words but all I can say is this. A child prodigy named Arima Kousie, who played the piano for much of his young life ends up losing the ability to hear what he plays. Later meeting someone who helps him get back on his feet and regain the colour he lost in his world. There are two other main characters aside from Kaori and Arima; Tsubaki and Ryota who are Arima’s childhood friends who together with Kaori make up the four protagonists in this show. There is not much to say about the story without spoiling it and much of the premise is in the synopsis above.
The animation for this show is great. A-1 studios has been stepping up its game in the animation industry and although, it’s not as great as the Giant Madhouse, it’s still commendable for A-1 to be able to keep up with the animation it has with having over four shows airing in the season of Winter 2015.
Music…This show is all about the music. The OST, the classical piano and violin playing is spectacular and tear jerking (yes I said it). At many times the soundtrack will make you cry, but that’s the point of this show. The music carries emotions that words just can’t describe. From sadness and anger to happiness and contentment; it’s all there and it’s all amazing.
To wrap it up, personally, I started watching this show when there were already twenty episodes out already and I was expecting it to be like any other random love and music romance show, but no. This show was great beyond my expectations. It blew me away from just the first two episodes. There was a lot of depth to that I could personally relate to and was feeling throughout the start of this year. The uneasiness of not having your hard work paying off, the feeling of loneliness and sorrow, and after having watched this show, I calmed down and started thinking about life for all the colours it has to give because black and white isn’t all we can see. It is the full spectrum of colours and emotions that makes us human, and we should enjoy every bit of it with the people we care about and that is truly the gift this show gave me. It gave me hope, a bit of sadness but at the end of it, a light that will lead you out of that sadness and there is nothing more I could have asked from a medium I love so much. The story of You lie in April really shook me, because it’s nothing like your average romance, it was something much more than that, it was masterpiece in the making and I feel it truly deserves a…

Whenever Shonen Jump releases anime based on a popular manga they are usually for the fighting and story enthusiasts. Hunter X Hunter is a show that balances the two perfectly in the form of a Yin-Yang. Although this story is fiction, it’s still based on some part of the truth of the real world we reside in. The story is brutal, deep, emotional, breathtaking and much more! A story that is different, but yet has the same basic elements you would expect from a Shonen anime. I won’t go into details of the story or the arc because I can’t mention that without spoiling
...
but I’m going to express what I can in whatever words while keep it short and sweet.
Hunter X Hunter mainly focuses on a Young boy named Gon Freecss who like his father wants to become a Hunter. He wants to experience what the world of Hunters is like and why his father left him to attain the wonders of that world. You can say that Gon wants to look for his father and ask him this question and that sets a goal for the narrative for the anime. Now, with this type of narrative, the Hunter X Hunter universe sets itself to become everlasting much like One-Piece and Toriko, where various arcs can come about without going astray from the initial plot and connect each other with everything else within the medium. You can think of it as a programming flowchart that is always connected to the main command. What really sets the story apart from others is the way it’s told. Its starts of slow, puzzling and full of questions but slowly starts to unravel itself and it gets really interesting as the arcs progress forward. Personally, no arc for me was boring. Every single one of them had something different and unique to offer from the introduction to new characters to foes and bros and new unexplored land which keep everything fresh and interesting. This is something that I feel makes Togashi-sensei such a spectacular author. Another great thing about the series is that Gon isn't the only main character of the series. There are a few more who are later introduced in the series which is what makes Hunter X Hunter special and different which hence makes more room for different types of arcs with different variations.
As you go deeper into the story you will see how complex, intriguing and thought provoking Hunter X Hunter actually becomes. A lot of the arcs in this show changed my perspective of how I looked at the world and the kind of potential it has of becoming, but at the same time it also made me think about the type of creation we are and negative impacts it brings to the table.
In terms of animation and sound, this show probably has the most beautiful and the most precise animation I have seen for a long running series. The manga was very lucky to not have been picked by garbage studios like Toei or A-1, instead it was picked up by one of the best ones in Japan, Mad-House. Mad-House studio is known for its amazing animation and to have consistency in all of its long running 148 episodes is a feat. Animation is spectacular. Togashi isn’t a very good drawer when compared to other manga artists but the anime comes and rescues that part of the story. As for OST, it’s pretty good. There are tracks that are pretty awesome here and there and fit the mood perfectly. You will enjoy the animation and sound for this show. I follow some of the staff members who work on Hunter X Hunter at Madhouse Studios and they love this manga very much and they put a lot of effort to make it perfect.
Finally, I know I’ve praised this show a lot, but I feel there is no reason not because, as I see it, Hunter X Hunter is a masterpiece. It is slow to start off with like any other show, but once you get past the first few episodes, you will start to enjoy the show and that’s mainly what hooks a person as he/she starts to gain interest. I always mention this is the reviews and tell people that fighting isn’t everything in a Shonen manga/anime. Sometimes having a good story that keeps the audience at bay and keeps them guessing is what you need in a story and Hunter X Hunter delivers. Over the course of 3 years this show has become my favorite anime of all time and it was sad to see it come to an end. Sure the manga still continues (very slowly) but surely so I hope to see more of it in the future. With that I say good-bye to a spectacular anime which is a MUST watch for all!

In these past few years, there have been a lot of sport manga that have been emerging and are being adapted into anime for good reason. They are great, further justice can only be done to these sports manga if a good animation studio pick them up and Haikyuu was one of the very lucky ones to get picked up by a well-known studio “Production I.G”. Haikyuu as a sports anime is amazing, thrilling and something that gives a blast from the past of my High-School life revolving around sports and science.
Haikyuu is an anime about high school Volleyball. Now, I don’t play volleyball
...
much but watching this show makes me want to start playing. There is the passion of loving a sport, there is the sense of rivalry between team-mates and rival teams alike, the passion and encouragement of great teammates surrounding you and helping you get better every step of the way. There are obstacles to overcome your weakness and so on. You can refer to the synopsis if you want details about the shows plot but to be honest, I feel that if you just watch the first 1st episode you will be hooked and would want to go all the way to 25.
As an entertainment product, if you enjoy sports you will like this show. It has a well-developed story and it progresses nicely with a flow which is just about right. Animation is solid and I would recommend watching it in either 720p/1080p if you can. It’s by no means perfect but it’s good enough to do justice to the manga.
The soundtrack of this show is really good. It fits the mood really nicely and the tone of some of the OST is very relaxing but also sometimes very intimidating and suspenseful. The animation studio does a really nice job in syncing it properly with the mood of the show which is why it’s good.
Overall, the show is extremely enjoyable (for me anyways). I would love to give it a 10/10 but the only problem is that it’s not done yet. There is still much of the story left and I would love to see a second season for this show. As a side note, I personally don't understand why people have the concept of Shonen anime being all about power battles. There is more than one way of fighting a battle, it doesn't always have to be about landing punches and kicks. But that's just me... and with that I end this review.

Hunter X Hunter is known for its amazing set pieces and story when it comes to the anime adaptation based on the manga. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the movies that are first off not written by the original author and second don’t follow the pacing that most arcs do in Hunter X Hunter.
As far as the plot goes; to begin with, it’s much better when compared to the first movie. This time a group of underground assassins known as “The Shadows” are the antagonists who want to take revenge on the Hunter association (specifically on Netero) for annihilating them. This story is
...
about “Nen” Vs “On” in which “On” being the ability of the enemy which is explained in the movie. The movie mainly focuses on Netero, Gon, Killua, Kurapika, Leorio, Hisoka and the 4 members of the Shadows. This story is simple. It doesn’t have too much depth to it nor is it complex to understand like some of the arcs in Hunter X Hunter anime, which some people might come to not like but then again, not every writer has the same skill or vision of what he/she wants to make. This isn’t telling much but if I mention any more it would just spoil the movie.
The soundtracks and animation: Since movies tend to have a bigger budget and taking into consideration of how amazing Madhouse’s regular animation is, this animation is top notch and amazingly done, so much so that I recommend watching the BD version of the movie on 1080p. As for the soundtracks, a lot of them come from the anime and they are perfect fit for the type of movie this is so you won’t be disappointed there.
From a pure HxH fan’s perspective who loves everything about Hunter X Hunter, I was kind of disappointed about how the movie turned out to be. Even though it wasn’t AMAZING, it was definitely good and was satisfying to watch as I was fully indulged in it and was not pausing every now and then. Also I really appreciated the end of the movie. It was nostalgic to see the gang back at the Heavens arena. I always wanted to see the Battle Olympia in action and this fulfilled my request. It was sad in terms of real life as we know that the previous voice actor of Netero (Nagai, Ichiro) passed away after he finished his work on this movie which gave a nice closure to his role of Netero in the HxH universe as well as in the real world. All in all, its a good movie which should be given a shot if you are bored and want some more HxH action.

As far as movies go, Toriko Movie: Bishokushin no Special Menu is a pretty good movie to watch and enjoy if you are just in the mood of watching some action filled Shonen Battle characters go head to head with bad guys. In this review I will just summarize the experience I had watching the movie and what you can expect from it before sitting down for 1.5 Hours.
Story/Characters:
For the story, Toriko and the gang find out about this Biotope which happens to be one of Acacia's Kitchen where he had a special menu hidden aside from his Full Course meal. The team heads to
...
the Biptope and encounter various obstacles and battles and meet new characters that help them defeat the evil person and obtain Acacia's Special Menu. (Them defeating the evil enemy isn't a spoiler because this is what SHONEN is mostly all about).
As seen in the trailer the whole gang is there which includes, Toriko, Komatsu, Rin, Coco, Sunny and Zebra as well as the Bishokukai and IGO members. If you have seen the anime or read the manga you pretty much know these characters and they don't need an introduction.
Art/Sound:
The animation and soundtrack were pretty good. I was especially impressed with how good and fluid the animation was as Toei's animations in general aren't all that great but when it comes to having a movie budget, they show off their skills as an animation studio and take their time into drawing and animating. That being said, I compared it to the on-going Hunter X Hunter animation and of course, Hunter X Hunter is still better but Toriko Movie's is way better than the original anime ever will be. The fight scenes are nicely done and the soundtrack for the most part is on par with what happens in the movie.
Enjoyment/Overall Thoughts:
I enjoyed this movie. It was fun watching Toriko after a while and its was great to see better animation and an OK story to boot. The anime was aimed at kids and I watched the movie with my younger brother (11 years old) and he enjoyed it as much as I did. It was full of action, more than expected and the story and the message was pretty good to teach to kids these days in the society. So if you have a son or daughter or a younger brother/sister and they want to watch TV or a good movie, this is a movie for them.
So should you rush out and Download/Buy the movie?
Well, it depends. If you enjoyed the anime for Toriko then sure, its great and enjoyable for the most part. If you are a manga reader and didn't appreciate the anime then you can pass on this movie but I would still recommend you watch it just because its something original and new.
Overall I gave this movie a 7/10 because its not really something you HAVE to watch as a Toriko fan, rather you watch it when you have free time and you are running out of good Shonen's to watch.
Hope this review gave YOU the reader some idea of what to expect from the movie. Gochisousama Deshita!
