An honest review of Akame ga Kill.
Akame ga kill is an anime that has gotten the "better than average" hype that other anime has gotten before, I am not one to say that this is entirely undeserved but as with all anime we can only really judge whether it is once we have seen the final episode and have gotten to experience all of it which for some anime leads to a saving grace while others sink in mediocrity.

CRITERIA FOR WATCHING ANIME ARE SOLELY BASED ON THE OPINION OF OTHERS!
the setting of the world around Akame ga Kill is fair enough. 48 specialized weapons were created a thousand years in the past, ordered by the then-regent in order to keep the country prosperous and safe. At some point a rebellion had taken place and these weapons were partially scattered leaving some of them in the hands of the wrong people.
The story starts of well, we have a protagonist with a simple mind for justice and a goal to save his village from poverty who goes to the city to make it big. Within moments however he comes to realize the city is as corrupt as can be.
Initially Akame ga Kill gives off a vibe of a monster hunter-esque anime. This idea somewhat dissipates throughout the series when the goal of the story changes but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
I've always enjoyed seeing straight-laced characters be confronted with the depraved side of humanity and I must say this anime did an excellent job of bringing in an image of absolute disgust towards the twisted minds of many characters but eventually that became a problem because
Akame ga Kill does this too much.
Akame ga Kill is an anime that heavily relies on people to get emotionally attached to characters only to have them meet their demise. This is a very effective story telling tool and has been used in many tales to reinforce the reader/viewer's attachment to characters but when it is used too much it becomes really hard to stay invested in a series.
As tiresome the Akame ga Kill ride was for me the story was told well and at no point did I feel a plot hole was too large to enjoy the entirety of the anime whether or not the tendencies of this anime will come to bother you at some point or instead strengthen your positive opinion is completely up to you.

As far as the artwork goes I have to say Akame ga Kill did a good job. Action scenes looked crisp enough and details on key features such as the weapons made them as interesting enough to see despite the lack of originality in them.

Soundwise the anime was acceptable, I am rarely picky on the voice acting and did not have anything to note this time either. The opening and ending song weren't anything of note so I cannot say that Akame ga Kill could be separately commended for it.

as for enjoyment... Akame ga Kill is an anime with a great premise, the setting was good and the character development was as well where everyone has their own identifiable quirks and convictions. Some characters were particularly fierce in said convictions but when you try to imagine growing up in an environment where you are taught that everything around you is right and those who oppose it are wrong you may become a victim of fanatical blindness. I always enjoy decent fighting scenes and Akame ga Kill had numerous great ones.
In the end I decided to give Akame ga Kill a much lower than average grade of a 6 solely because I believed the story could have relied less on trying to get the viewer to be attached to a character only to kill it off and instead focus more on convincing the viewer about the viewpoints from the antagonistic side because at many points I felt the anime wanted me to feel equally invested in the opposing side but I could never bring myself to do so which lead to an underwhelming feeling once the story got to its conclusion.
