Long story short, this is a MUCH worse Summer Wars by the guy that made Summer Wars.
The sound and visuals of this movie are incredible and I loved those aspects. Aside from when you're in the Beast's castle and there's a weird filter on everything not dead center. Not sure why they made that decision.
Other poor decisions was the dialogue and almost the entire story. Characters overreacting, characters weirdly obsessed or weirdly hate other characters in one scene and then it changes seconds later. very late in the movie. Sub-plots are dropped constantly or are resolved off screen. Two examples were that the best friend already knew the main girl was Bell. But we're never shown how she knows. Did she help her set up the account? did the main girl just tell her? Another plotline is the school girls gossiping about the main girl and one of the main dudes dating. The way they solve it so ridiculous and quick that it might as well have not been a plotline. Something else that they could have cut is ALL of the virtual reality in the movie. It's one of the main gimmicks but it does very little to move the story along and every time a scene cuts to the U-verse, I had to fight my hand from clicking fast forward. It got tiring and I was much more invested in the mediocre high school quad-romance and the main character getting over her trauma.
It's been brought up a little in other reviews but how the world treats the beast character is bizarre. In U he shows up and everyone is immediately talking shit cause he's a good fighter but takes things a little too far. They keep referencing "bruises" on his back. but he just has a cape with a weird design on it. Once outside of U there are news interviews of people saying how cool he is and how he's their hero.
But yeah don't waste your time on this movie. Just go watch Summer Wars again. I'd be furious if I paid to see this in theaters and not on HBO

I always thought this show was more popular than it seems to be. It's a Gainax show directed by Anno after all. I've definitely seen Jean, Nadia and Captain Nemo around the internet for well over a decade. As some of the other reviews here indicate, At less than 50k viewers, it is a hidden gem in the Gainax Library.

the next one begins. The early pacing of the show is brisk. Boy meets girl being chased by some thieves. Boy shows girl flying contraption, but the two crash in the ocean. Boy and girl are rescued by the navy, that gets into a fight with a sea monster. It's just BOOM, BOOM, BOOM every ep. I have seen some complaints about how the show slows down a bit in the middle. I actually thought this was a good character building and relationship building arc..
The art is surprisingly good for a show from the early 90s. Actually when I was watching the first couple ep., I thought that it looked like an 80s show only to find out that it was from 1990. The animation can be hit or miss. There is some nice sakuga here and there. There is also a lot of squash and stretch animation. Then there are times when the same animation is used for about a minute. So it is a mixed basket.
The sound is fine. The OP and ED are very 90s style. Sound effects are good enough. I watched the English dub of this and my goodness. This is a very good dub. Most of the main cast really give it their all with emotion and accents. There is the occasional flat performance, but for the most part it's good.
The main cast of characters are incredible and well fleshed out. Not just Jean and Nadia. Captain Nemo, Marie and others get a lot of story. The previously mentioned thieves, start the show as Team Rocket. (even though they predate them by a few years) Then by the time we get to the 8th or so ep., they've joined the main group of good guys and later become parental figures for the Jean and Nadia. Like, imagine if Team Rocket joined Ash and Misty instead of Brock and help mentor the two children. It was amazing to watch those characters grow over the series.
Overall, yeah easy recommendation. Some aspects might have not aged very well, but this is still and excellent watch.

I'll give any sports anime a good chance if it has enough hype around it. I watched the first season and enough of this one to know that this is not my kind of sports anime. I remember watching the first season and not really understanding why I did not like it. The second season made this abundantly clear. There is absolutely no balance to this show.

The first season followed those 2 simple rules. However, 7 episodes into S2, they had not shown a full game of volleyball. practice or otherwise. The team had a bunch of practice games, but none of them were shown to any worthwhile length. It's just practice, practice, practice. I even skimmed a few episodes ahead and it is still just practicing. Plus, the team never seems to get any better, so what is the point.
I get it. I was an athlete in high school too. I know it is 80% practice, 10% hanging out with your bros and 10% getting to use what you practice, in a match. BUT THIS IS ANIME, DAMNIT. Not only that, it is a 25 ep. season 2 of an anime. Now is the time for a tournament arc or something. Not focusing on characters and practicing for 12 straight episodes. When a sports anime has the, "bad grades" troupe span 3 episodes as a major plot point, you know they have run out of story ideas.
I could go on about how none of the rivals are very interesting or dont stand out, or the show not doing a good job explaining aspects of the sport, or the way it treats the black haired manager as only a sex object. Like thank goodness they added that blonde girl. She is the most fleshed out character on the show.
The show is kinda disappointing for someone like me who has seen several sports anime before. However, I feel like this is a really good beginners sport show (god I hate saying it like that). And I really don't want to gatekeep like that but I'm sorry y'all....this show is really not that good and there are much better sports shows out there.

Watched what I can only assume is the preview movie to this IP and it was pretty generic with some cool points.
The story is that a ninja girl's father and grandfather (where the heck's her mother?Where's anyone's mother in this?) get killed and she's out for revenge. It's like a if batman was a cute anime girl. Except she's not rich...her father was rich and built her some robot side kicks.
The characters are pretty generic too. However, once the team comes together by the end of the movie, they've all been fleshed out a little. Still very troupey through.

are really good in this. Probably because it's a teaser movie, so they should be trying to impress us. Character designs are fine. The last fight is particularly very well animated.
Overall, It was a good, quick and painless flick. If the next installment is a episodic show, I don't think I'll watch it. The plot isn't interesting enough to keep me invested for a a weekly basis, and I'm sure it wont be as polished. If it's another movie, then I will watch it. However, I wont change this review or anything. I'm sure another movie will be just as by the numbers.

I'm not sure how to start this review. I guess I loved this movie a lot. Went in knowing absolutely nothing. The movie felt like it was 4 hours long. But by the end of the credits, I was as sad at the movie being over, as I would have been with a really good season of a show. I recommend watching this. You should go into this with an open mind and let it take you wherever it wants to go.
But I can tell this is not a movie for everyone.

changes all the time. The only link being the relaxed mood of the ditsy MC. The credits of the movie is an amazing stroll down memory lane, as you go, "holy shit, that's right. That did happen." The fact that the climax is a big, dumb adventure that's really just a couple neighborhoods or districts away is great. Makes you remember that these are just a couple of dumb, immature kids.
The art is really good and not quite like anything I've seen before. It has a very old school feel. Painted, static backgrounds and then animating characters and objects on top. I know your thinking, "yeah, that's how you animate." but what I mean is that the character contrast hard with the background.
The sound and music was good overall. I did notice that, sometimes, voices sounded like people speaking into a can. Also some scenes not having characters lips move correctly, or at all, to dialogue was a bit distracting.
The characters are fantastic, everyone has depth, no matter how short their scene is. This is a fleshed out, real and lived in world. The two MC's are a treat and feel like the kind of fire and ice duo that would go on this kind of stupid adventure.
Again, the movie felt like 4 hours. Not because it was slow or bad. More like, because I wanted to linger on every scene. I wanted to take in the background, the characters and everything that was said.This movie is already going on the yearly rewatch pile with some Miyazaki's, Summer Wars and a couple others.

Let me just start by saying this was far and away the worst part of jojo yet and I wasn't a huge fan of the first two parts. We’ve reached the end and I still don’t have a good understanding of what the characters goals were. Let’s just jump into the story and get this shit behind us and look forward to Jolyne.
The story to this part was just terrible. Never before has the 2 episode, fight, arc, formula been so painful to get through. I think the reason this formula worked in part 4 was because half the time the “enemy” stand wasn’t

even trying to kill the heroes. Also there’s nothing as outrageous as a ghost alley way or a tower stand in part 5. It’s all just dudes with stands (was there a single female enemy stand user? I don’t remember). I think the reason the formula worked in part 3 is because those heroes were a bit more fleshed out, comedy worked better, they had a clear goal and progression chart, and there was a set number of enemies we knew we were going to encounter. In part 5, it’s just a bunch of immediately forgettable enemies like fishing rod guy, or I-have-to-die-for-my-stand-to-even-activate guy. All of these enemy users blend together and there is no sense of achievement in the heroes beating them, because another dude just pops up. Also this is the first JoJo where the heroes are the ones that antagonize the villain. The boss isn’t doing anything notably evil except hiding his identity. He only starts sending people at them when they try to find out who he is. I’ll just lump the character category in here because there isn’t much talk about with them. I think Giogio wanted to become the mafia boss and zipper dude wanted to become the boss and get rid of drugs or something. I’ve spent 39 episodes with these characters and those are the only things I can tell you about two of the characters motivations. The other MC’s were just stupid mafia henchmen that happened to tag along with the two real MC’s. Most of the time these henchmen were useless and just got in the way.
The art is a mixed bag. The character designs and stand designs are obviously fabulous. However, the background art at all times looks either bland or ugly.
The stand sfx and ED’s are the only things really saving the sound category here. I didn’t like any of the OP’s and skipped them most of the time which used to be a sin for jojo. But these ops were boring and part 5s best never even touched part 4’s worst.
Overall, I’m sure that if you like jojo you’ll watch this part anyway. I could not imagine having to binge this part and am glad that I only had to watch 1 episode at a time. Otherwise, it would have gotten very exhausting. I would never have dropped the show though. Even if I wanted to, I know I would have come back and finished it like I did for part 2. But in the grand scheme of anime, I would not recommend this part be watched.

I am not sure what other reviewers were expecting from this show and I don't know why everyone decided this was the show to shit on for the season. It's a 3 min ep. 12 ep. series based around the gimmick that no one speaks. At 3 min. a pop the time investment is incredibly small. You can watch the whole series in less than an hour and each episode is charming to some degree.
Would i recommend it? IDK It's a pretty pointless show, but it was a good little snack to have every week. And that's all it was ever meant to be.

If you have a short road trip or flight or train ride, you could kill time with this show.

I remember I tried watching HXH 2011 a couple years ago. I got through the first season with my roommate and we both thought it was awful, and so I dropped it with a 4. Since then, I noticed the community behind this show coming out of the bushes and yelling to the heavens that HXH 2011 is one of, if not the best, shonen anime ever. "What? I thought that show was terrible" I says to myself. So, I took the dare and lo, the 4 has turned into a 7. So, there is some truth to what this fan base says. Is it

the best?….no, is it perfect?…..no. Does it still get to sit at the high table with One Piece, DBZ, Naruto and Macadamia? You bet your sweet bippy it do. Let’s get into it.
Story: Truly the easiest way to break down the story, is to just talk about the arc system. The show consists of a half dozen arcs that all work up to the penultimate arc, the Chimera Ant arc. Character motivation, plot lines, power levels, etc. mostly come to a head in this arc. This seems to be the reason the show was remade, as I think the original stopped just before the Chimera Ant arc. You can also tell that this was the story the creators wanted to tell, as the story uncharacteristically slows WAAAAY down and takes its time with the arc and makes sure it gets every detail and domino in place. But to get there, we have to go through a few arcs, or this shit won’t make any sense.
*This will contain minor spoilers*
First, we have the Hunter Exam arc. This is where we learn about the two main characters Gon and Killua; as well as a good handful of other reoccurring characters. I guess the best way I can summarize this arc, is that it is a less good chunin exam.
The next arc, is what I refer to as, “that battle tower arc.” The arc, as a whole, is boring but mercifully short and has 2 things going for it. There’s the Gon and Hisuka fight, which is A+. There is also the introduction of the shows power gimmick, Nen. I will not get into it here as it super complicated, but it pretty much means that if a character has a weird ability, it is from this aura based power.
Next up, is Yorknew City and this is where the show finally grabbed me. The two main characters need to get a rare video game, so they go to the auction house in Yorknew city. The only problem is, that other people want this game as well. What ensues, is probably the best heist arc I have seen in a shonen. Now there are better shows whose focus is a heist. However, if we are talking about a battle shonen that must change gears and become a heist anime, this is likely the best. One Piece just finished the Whole Cake Island arc, which was at its core, is a heist arc. However, One Piece could not resist turning back into a battle shonen. HXH 2011 sticks to its guns and subverts a lot of expectations. There are not many fights and I do not think Gon and Killua have a fight. The arc is masterfully planned out and very enjoyable. This is why it pains me to say that this arc is the only truly skippable arc. There is not much that happens in this arc to affect the over arcing story. Hell, even the video game quest is solved in the beginning of the next arc. I would not recommend skipping the Yorknew City arc, but if you really want to cut corners, this is the arc to cut.
Next, we have the Greed island arc and the less said about this the better. It is the worst arc in the series by far and its only redeeming qualities is a dodgeball game at the end, and that it shows Gon and Killua training. It is a training arc essentially.
Next up, is the slow burn that is the Chimera Ant arc. Going in, I saw a bit of a divided opinion on this arc and judging by a lot of reviews I am not sure if this is actually the mac daddy arc I thought it was going in. But forgetting all that noise, I really liked this arc. Maybe it is because I’m a One Piece, Naruto and DBZ fan but the length and pace did not bother me at all. The only pacing issues I had were the sub-arc that the show takes after the beginning. Things were moving along at a nice pace. Then some shit happens and our MCs, and the camera, go off for like a dozen eps to train more. My other problem is with the palace invasion sub-arc. This is where the show really slows down and takes a whole episode to cover a ten second span of time. This is where the narrator got paid for overtime as he explains everything that is happening. It is actually fascinating to watch the amount of detail and callbacks that this part of the arc does. However, it can also get annoying after a while. I do not think this arc is as good as the Yorknew arc. But it is still up there with some of the better pure shonen arcs that I can think of.
Finally, we have probably the second worse arc in the series to wrap things up….yaaaay. this is the election/Killua family drama arc. Due to the aftermath of the Chimera Ant arc, an election for leader of the hunter association is needed. While that stuff is going on, Gon is in critical condition in the hospital and Killua is trying to heal him. Overall, this last arc is kind of deflating after the previous arc.
Art: The show is by Madhouse, so you know it is going to look good and have some well animated fight scenes. I will say that outside of a handful of fights the animation gets a little choppy and blurry. There are also some points when characters are just still and thinking, but that happens in every shonen. The character designs outside of Gon, Killua and their 2 friends is solid. Gon’s design is absolute shit, and Killua’s is so bland. From the clips I have seen of the original version, I would have like that art style better. But it is tough to ignore the polish that Madhouse puts on the show.
Sound: The sound is average. The op and ed are nails on a chalkboard annoying. However, the remixes of those songs throughout the show are a little better. Probably because it takes the singer out. Aside from those, the music can be hit or miss. SFX are also kind of generic.
Characters: I personally do not like the characters in this show. I was going to give characters a 3, because I only liked maybe 5 characters. Hisoka, the ant king, the blind girl, the smoke guy, and Pitou. Everyone else, I was either indifferent to or out right hated like Gon and Killua. I hated how unshakably stupid and reckless Gon was in the show and every time he got in over his head the show bailed him out, so he did not learn his lesson. Killua was super arrogant and that does not change much throughout the show. However, I can see and understand other people enjoying Gon and Killua as well as some of the side characters so with a good conscience it is a 6.
Overall, I liked HXH 2011 way more than I thought I would. While my opinion did not change on the characters, there was a well-built world and story to distract me. I can definitely see why people rewatch this show. I can also see why it could be some people’s favorites. Is it the best shonen ever? Probably not. It is not that HXH 2011 is the best shonen ever. It isolates the best arc from that point in the manga and the moments that are necessary for the good arc to make sense. It also does not take very long to do so relative to other ip in the genre. However, I am sure that the same treatment could be done with Naruto, One Piece, DBZ, etc. But if you do not have time for those giant series’ then HXH 2011 has all the same troupes and does most of them competently to amazingly. Sorry for this being such a along review. I had to cut it down from like 4 1/2 pages of note.

I always find it hard to come up with stuff to put in a review about episodic comedies. I guess I'll just try to keep it brief.
The story was very basic stuff. I do not really know what the other reviews think of the story, but overall it didn't do much that other episodic comedies don't do. It's only real hook was that there are psychic girls and as the show goes on they do less and less psychic stuff, so the originality hook was lost.

The sound was pretty unnoticeable outside of the OP, ED, and some foley work.
The characters are pretty good. A few of them got fleshed out due to the hardships they experienced throughout the show. The two MCs. do not get any development really. Nitta was a Yakuza with a heart of gold and Hina was an always hungry, deadpan throughout the show.
I liked the show enough to finish it, but I don't think it was really as great as others seem to think. The show got very repetitive, constantly relying on the, "oh no, this was a misunderstanding" joke and the same 2 reaction faces. There was the deadpan reaction and the mouth open, tongue arced, shocked reaction. These are the main punchline traits the show relies on and it was all the more noticeable if you were to binge it. Still if it gets the second season that it kind of teases at the end, I will probably watch it.

I like a good sports anime from time to time. I realized I hadn't watched many of Baseball anime and at the same time, I stumbled across this. With only a little over 7,000 people having it on their list and a short run manga that seems to have dropped off the face of the Earth, this show turned out to be the very definition of a hidden gem.
The story is of a chairwoman deciding to start a baseball (not softball) team at her all girls school and have the team compete against the dudes. A problem with this is that she only has a

pitcher that she found in a street league. The early part of the show is focused around building this team with a hodgepodge of girls from other sports and walks of life. If you watch the intro or outro, then its not a surprise who they pick up. Keep in mind that this is a 90s shojo. So on top of training this ragtag team and battling the school authority, there is also a lot of romance drama. and sometimes normal drama. The story is full of 90s tropes and cliches, but they seem to work fine.
Another thing this show has going for it is some great 90s animation and artwork. All of the main character girls are well designed. The only guy that has an interesting character is the coach. When it comes to the Sports part of the show there is a lot of reused animation and/or quick cuts. However, there are also some good animated batting and diving catches.
The sound design is very good. The OP and ED are nice bookends to every episode. The two songs are reused a lot during the show. There's also some good orchestral music whenever the MC pitcher throws a ball. It really adds to the intensity. The baseball sfx are all fine, nothing much to say. The last thing is that THE DUB IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE SUB. I cannot stress this enough. Crunchyroll has both and I watched a couple eps. of each and the the characters were much better defined in the dub.
The Main characters are good. From the coach, to the manager, to the players; there's not a bad one in the bunch. The side characters and Mr.Love Interest can get a bit generic though.
While I enjoyed its sports side, this show is more about what happens off the field. The romance can get a little tiring and some of the drama surrounding the girls being allowed to play can seem like a drawn out formality. However, the bond between the teammates carries the show effectively enough, that watching never seemed like a chore.
Overall, I will tell the void that this show should be watched as clearly no one knows about this show. I was worried that because it wasn't popular and didn't get a second season, that it would have an unsatisfying ending. While the ending is a bit abrupt, most of the stories and plot lines were wrapped up by the end.
