Animegataris. It is an anime about otakus, and it is anime FOR otakus. Its biggest appeal is being full of meta references from otaku culture and other anime or genres. You'll see a lot of references that otakus practice like ship wars, or the famous three episode rule.
...The anime starts as that. And I loved it when it was only simply that. The anime is full of references from other anime that are just fun to spot, like famous scenes, quotes or characters. Often it's just enjoyable to see a mention of Ru:Zero, Anosuba, or Guden Daran.
But as the episode numbers reaches the end, it

becomes much, much more. A masterpiece. Well, that might be an exaggeration, but it just really clicked with me perfectly. These creators made a casual anime, broke it into little pieces, embraced the stupidity and created a unique, unafraid, and wonderful ending. This ending is so stupidly enjoyable that it made the anime one of my top favorites of all the anime I've watched. But this is just coming from someone who really loves comedy and stupid fun stuff though.
Sometimes a studio decides to do stupid stuff... and they end up becoming a pile of garbage, like Haruhi's Endless Eight. And sometimes, a studio decides to create stupid stuff, and do it well, make it something enjoyable, and something that directly speaks to anime fans... And you get Anime-gataris.
I don't want to spoil much now. But still, no matter how amazing the ending episodes are... Remember that for majority of the anime it is just otaku students enjoying being otakus in their little otaku club. If you dislike that (because it feels somewhat like a slice of life), you might still be interested in the fact that this anime has a lot of otaku meta and references to other anime. If you still somehow dislike that... At least watch the Episode 10 opening because it just shows how much of madmen the creators of this show can be.
Throughout the regular part of the anime, they play around tropes of other specific genres, like the club-ruining student council in the main description. There are a lot of this in the anime and they made all kinds of references to club anime, ecchi, harems, idol anime, anime-creation anime, slice of life, mechas...
For the characters, the only really relevant character that has development is the main main character (Minoa), and the creators really wrote her character to the whole anime's story well, I'd say. The rest of the main characters are pretty bland and one-dimensional but you're not supposed to find development in them, they're references to the multiple kinds of otaku that people can relate on; there's the know-it-all who watches all genres, a guy who's unashamedly into anime idols, a girl into light novels, a girl into cosplay, an eccentric awkward chuunibyou (hey they exist in real life though otherwise that Chuunibyou anime won't exist), and, well, the main character is new to anime (who only newbies can relate on and for most of the anime, is mostly a plot device so that the others can explain to her some otaku references). The rest of this whole anime club, as a whole, though, manages to bring her development well and makes a good anchor for the final episodes' storyline.
The animation... I don't really particularly care about that (along with the sound). But let me just say this, when they want to reference animation itself, they do it right. All the references about animation, even those that are older ones, are just enjoyable to see.
Garnidelia's Aikotoba is the shit, too. It's upbeat and cheery, and really suits the anime well.
Finally (somewhat). You see those characters voiced by popular voice actors in the character list? Rie Takahashi, Inori Minase, or Kana Hanazawa herself? All of those are minor characters so don't expect much. :) Most of the main characters have voice actors that don't have much listed in their characters voiced list, but they're not necessarily bad at voice acting though, so don't worry. Just be disappointed like me that Rie Takahashi's character is limited to that running gag of mostly being involved in a 5 second fanservice shot, or Kana Hanazawa's character being the "character of the episode" of one episode.
Overall... this anime is amazing. I started it because of the character design (and Rie Takahashi). I stayed because of the otaku meta and show refences. I ended with it becoming one of my most favorite anime of all time.
Don't dismiss it as just another regular high school club comedy slice of life anime. Its main appeal is in the meta references to other shows and the otaku culture. And if you stayed through that... You'll get an stupidly amazing, unique, and lovable ending, a masterpiece that is created by a bunch of madmen creators who embraced the stupidity and crafted something incredibly enjoyable.
P.S. Seriously if you decide to drop it somewhere in the middle... At least watch the Episode 10 OP. They took the show's running gag to the next level.

Judging by the high overall score this seems like it's the next Sword Art Online. By that, I meant being horribly overrated. I like the gaming genre as much as the next guy, but come on man.
The anime was incredibly and utterly boring.
At the very least it's not SAO tier of being bad, but I guess the people who told me that this is "a better SAO" meant that because barely any anime can be considered as bad as SAO.
But enough about that. This anime wasn't written very well. The premise is that a popular game's best pro player is smurfing around. That's it. Nothing

interesting happened from start to finish. There was no suspense, drama, and I can't fathom why comedy is one of the genres when there was barely any funny stuff, most of the few comedy scenes were very forced.
They keep introducing new characters, new enemies, but barely any development to almost any of them. Characters of interest in an episode will disappear and never be heard of again in the next episodes. There was no clear boss, main antagonist, or any sort of challenge to the main character, you know it's bad when in the final episode they introduced a character and made him the antagonist for the day. Would have been a more interesting final episode if the enemies the main character was facing was his previous teammates; at the very least, those guys had some buildup. But no, they forgot about all those guys and just used new characters as enemies in the final episode.
Ugh, at the very least even though I terribly disliked SAO, that was for other reasons; SAO at least had an interesting premise, there's a main villain in the first season, there's the suspense of death there too. Battles there are not complete snorefests too. And the final episode for the first season was the established enemy in the first episode.
Here... There's nothing. I don't know who's the main chartacter fighting (aside from his previous teammates, but they aren't really built up and written well). The battles are so boring because the main character never really breaks a sweat, even in the face of other countless pro players smurfing and large guilds, there was never really threat. All we can see in the whole anime is his smug, confident, uncaring face, and I don't think I ever saw him become tense.
The whole art and sound aren't particularly interesting too. They're not amazing, I don't really get hyped from the music as much as I get hyped from something like "Don't Lose Your Way" in Kill la Kill. The art, well, it's probably just normal, but majority of anime is normal to me so the anime is fine in that department. (They did use horrible CGI often though)
Overall, poor anime. It's not as cringe-bad as SAO but it's worse than that anime in other aspects. Probably the most boring, uneventful anime I've ever seen.
(Sorry about the frequent SAO comparisons, but really SAO is the main face of game-related anime as well as controversially overrated anime which also fit this anime well too)

From what I can presume, UQ Holder is some sort of sequel to Negima, that ridiculous ecchi harem manga with lots of distasteful stripping and panty shots and all kinds of fanservice. Which made me avoid it even until now, because I couldn't stand supposedly great manga that can't help but ruin their stories with terrible ecchi.
Couple of weeks ago, I discovered UQ Holder, recommended to me (didn't know about that whole Negima relation thing for a time). It was pretty nice. I would rate it an 8/10 a couple of days ago. A tale of dreams, adventure, and friendship. A standard shounen and a

pretty entertaining one at that. There were a few times of fanservice but it has even less than other standard shounens.
A few times there would be a couple of references to Negima which, while I couldn't relate to, I could tolerate because the story was fine even if you didn't read it.
Then when the manga was nearing the hundredth chapter, the author decided to just ruin all of that greatness and bring Negima to ruin this one. Before, there was practically no harem; only one, maybe two characters were being teased with the main character but just barely and not that much.
But no, suddenly, the author simply decides to take pretty much almost all of the female cast and make them suddenly attracted to him even when they showed little to zero feelings for him before, then give the readers a couple of characters who people have no attachment to because they weren't (or barely) in the story before and shove him into the shoddily made harem too just for the hell of it.
Oh, and made sure to have a lot of fanservice and nudity; I can tolerate some from time to time in other manga, but it becomes ridiculous when you get a reunion with this character in the early chapters and make her run around fully naked, and extremely ridiculous where characters are going around and fighting each other or their enemies while fully naked like the author doesn't care anymore. This kinds of situations are what triggers me when I read manga; this is the reason I dropped Fairy Tail and Tokyo ESP, seriously, which were both otherwise great shounen manga before they decided to go ridiculous with nudity and fanservice.
Well, aside from the forced sudden harem and the sudden surge of ridiculous fanservice, they also decide to bring Negima into the story by simply just shoving a lot of Negima characters into the story. Characters who only people who read the original manga will appreciate, leaving those who read this manga first in the dust. They simply keep introducing character after character who apparently is in the original series.
I read a couple of reviews for this manga that were submitted a few years ago, oh, and how wrong those people were. "This is not Negima 2.0", "This is an almost completely different manga". That was the case back then and I enjoyed it until we reach around a hundred chapters when the author decided to Negima-fy the manga. That would be a good thing for those who liked the original series, but not those who grew to love the normal and enjoyable adventure shounen that was UQ Holder.
This would have been a pretty high score before the storywreck a hundred chapters into the manga, so I'd simply just average it out and give it a 5. I'd probably still continue reading it because I have grew attached to a couple of characters to drop it at this point. But if you're someone who is interested in this manga and doesn't want fanservice, you probably shouldn't bother. You'd grow attached to the story and the main cast but the author will decide to ruin it a hundred chapters after. Likewise, if you're someone who wants hardcore fanservice shoved into an action shounen, you'd only get to have that a hundred chapters after because the manga barely had any of that beforehand.

Right off the bat, I'll say it: this anime is hilarious. This is "cute girls doing cute girl stuff" SoL anime done right. Well, not exactly right, but definitely better than most of those generic ones out there.
Most of the other anime embodying this trope are definitely decent but can sometimes get boring and cringe-y because of all the generic cliches and friendship skits and all that generic shit. It can get funny at times but most of the time they just fall flat.
But then I found Sabagebu. A school SoL of cute girls together in a club, yes. But not just any club, a
...
survival club where everybody wields guns. What makes it more interesting though is we see people getting shot like they were actually shot (in reality they are just pellet guns and there's no blood).
Most interesting though and what carries this show the most is the protagonist, Momoka. She's a full-fledged asshole. She is willing to get other people inconvenienced for her own desires, she is goddamned blinded by money more than anyone else, she cheats and uses underhanded tricks to win. She is a main character unlike most other main characters. Most mains are good and kind at heart, some outward and some mostly hidden. Momoka is a person who will shoot her conscience and the evil in her heart just to make sure they don't get a part of her own happiness. And she really makes it work because the anime is a school life SoL comedy.
I think the art could have been better, there are a couple of great designed characters but most of the others are just budget cute girl characters. Doesn't really take away from the greatness of the anime because the comedy is awesome and the action scenes are well animated.
The OP and ED are cute enough, not that special but it's fine. The sound effects used in the anime are on point, though. Really accentuates what is happening in a scene. I think they've done really well in this aspect, stuff that are funny are even made funnier usually because of the background music.
Overall, I really enjoyed this. Definitely one of the best comedy animes I ever watched, this anime's main character is a hilariously diabolical character unlike any I've ever seen. If you're looking for a comedy that would really make you laugh then you must try Sabagebu.

Started Oregairu because of the romantic comedy that you were expecting? Good for you. Snarky Hachiman and his interactions with everything around him was indeed enjoyable to watch in the light-hearted comedy with a little bit of romance in the first season.
Say goodbye to that to Zoku though. If you want comedy, don't watch this. It's pretty much Charlotte all over again. Basically, it's the drama of dealing with the frustrations of reality caused by Hachiman's personality.
The plot is frustrating. Stuff seems like forever to finish, I mean it was probably to increase and sympathize with the frustration of the characters having to deal with

the problem, but it was those that made me drop the anime back then (only finished now because the OVA came out).
A lot of the characters in the first season got sidelined or outright almost removed. The more interesting ones that gave life to the anime's first season are basically nowhere to be found in this one. Instead we get focus with the more frustrating characters, old and new. The new girl is great though.
Character development and the relationship between the main cast are great, but the romance... There's a lot of damned teases but without much progress. I mean with a title like that you'd expect romance though... Instead you get the problems of the realities of life and all that stuff.
The ending was great as a conclusion for the second season, but it was also not well done. It totally doesn't seem like a finale. After the frustration of watching the season with the disapppointment of it being different from the first season's tone... At the very least you'd expect to get a great ending, or a cliffhanger for the third one, but you get neither of that.
Overall, as someone who liked the light-hearted comedy of the first season, the second was just a disappointment for me. It has Hachiman's snarkiness, but instead of the comedy it causes with his interactions with people, it's now the negativity that it brings that's here.

I watched this anime without reading on what it was about, what was its genre, etc. Just watched it on a whim, so I didn't know what should I be expecting.
So the story starts as a casual, normal school life comedy, with the exception that the characters have superpowers that have terrible twists. The main story seems to be interacting with others who also have superpowers and convincing them to not use theirs for their own safety. Other than that, some comedy here and there, some student bonding, etc. So far, so good. This was going on for almost half of the number of anime
...
episodes.
And then, after that, a cruel, terrible plot twist suddenly appears. Don't get me wrong, there was some drama from the first six episodes regarding one of the main characters, but it seems small compared to the sudden despairful tragedy that befalls one of the other main characters. There was almost no buildup to the suddenness, it just came out of nowhere out of this sweet, relaxing slice of life school comedy about a group of people helping people, that turned it suddenly into a drama. Okay, so this seems to be a drama anime after all, but I totally did not like this plot twist when the anime was a completely different genre an episode ago, or actually for the first half of the whole anime.
Anyway, now that is out of the way... The rest wasn't much better. It actually got worse from that moment to the finish. There was some character development going on with the MC after the tragedy which was pretty decent, the secrets about the whole world was revealed, relationship development between the main cast. Which is cool if it wasn't done under three episodes. I feel that all of these data dumps and development dumps could have been done better if they were more spread out and done in five to six episodes or so. Also, that tragedy was able to somehow reverted because of some deus ex machina stuff.
By this time there were three more episodes left. One episode for introducing more drama and removing that deus ex machina, one episode for resolving the stories of the other people, and the final episode that could have been made into a whole anime series. Albeit a shitty one because everything that was happening in that final episode was unbelievable. Although it IS unbelievable that all those content were somehow fit in inside one final episode, with the makers thinking that this was somehow a brilliant idea. Oh well.
I don't judge much on art and sound, but they were pretty decent by my standards.
Anyway, so far so bad. So we had a terribly made and terribly paced story, with decent art and music. I should add that the characters were also terrible too. The main character was initially interesting in the first episode, but somehow turned into a bland protagonist in the second, and never came back to that entertaining guy from the first one. The rest were just terrible clichés without real depth. Also, with all the mundaneness of the first half of the anime, there was no development with the main cast. And at the second half of the anime, three of the main cast were basically irrelevant to the story already. Absolutely horrid and dreadful.
Overall, a damn waste of time. It had an amazing premise, I actually like stories where regular people have superpowers. And I didn't mind the school comedy slice of life from the first half since I actually enjoy a lot of anime like that.
However, the rest: the sudden and out of nowhere drama genre shift introduced at the middle, the terrible pacing, the comedy that pops out every now and then to ruin everything, the episodes that could have done better if they were spread out in more than one, the terrible characters (those in the main cast and those in the second half of the anime that they force you to care about), and that BS finale. These was just all too much. And these will be the reasons why I give this anime a low score.

Failure. Loneliness. Heartbreak. Suicide. Depression.
I'm warning you now, those who are deciding to watch NHK ni Youkouso. You WILL get depressed watching this. I never checked the genres or read reviews anything before watching it, so at first I just assumed it as a fulfilling slice of life comedy with blooming romance, character development and stuff like that.
...It's not. Well, I guess it's a liiiittle bit like that, but at its heart this anime just shows the various miserable lives of the main characters. Unlike other feel-good anime where good things happen, this anime will give you failure after failure. Give you loneliness. Give you

suicidal characters.
It doesn't have a very impactful and fulfilling ending. Which will make you depressed even more, after having to endure all these misery for twenty-four episodes.
I guess it's somewhat my fault that I didn't bother to check a lot about the anime before watching it. I just saw it as a recommendation for those who liked Steins;Gate (which I loved). Though I guess there is a lot of drama in S;G too, but at least THAT anime had great romance and a fulfilling and great ending.
Though I guess, it's good at what it does. This anime is all about life, and all the terrible things in it. If you spend a lot of time being alone in your room wasting your life in anime and games, you will relate to this anime. If you had a project that you wasted a hell of a lot of time on and it ends up in failure, you will relate to this anime. If you've had experiences that made you really depressed and even want to commit suicide, you will relate to this anime.
Don't expect this anime to be feelgood and fulfilling. It's funny and charming at times, but that's little compared to the main goal of showing the harsh realities of life. Of a lot of people. This anime has no dramatic and impactful ending; it's just normal and lifelike.
The animation is mostly good, but sometimes subpar and lazy. But the OP and EDs are great, and the soundtrack is really good. It really shows the emotion, it makes you feel more lonely in lonely scenes, more depressed in depressing scenes... Uggggghhh The OP is a lie this is not a heartwarming and charming slice of life comedy romance.
Character... They are kinda complex and well-written. You'll really feel immersed, curious, connected with the characters. Well, the characters have miserable lives unfortunately, but NHK is unlike other anime with shallow characters. They're well-written.
Sigh. Unfortunately, this anime is just not my thing. Seems like the reason I carried on watching despite being depressed about all the misery after misery and failure after failure is for the belief that it will get better. That it will have a great, feel-good, charming, fulfilling and impactful ending that I will enjoy. Unfortunately, it's still depressingly lifelike until the end. I can see how people like how lifelike this anime is, so if you want to watch an anime about the miseries of reality then watch this. I don't want to make it sound bad because it isn't, it's actually a greatly written anime, but it's just not my cup of tea.
My gripe, aside from the fact that this whole anime is depressing, is that the main female character almost never changes her clothes. This isn't a school anime, but all I'm seeing is her black and yellow clothes over and over again. I don't know why that makes me angry when I enjoyed stuff like Attack on Titan or Nisekoi. But seriously. For an anime that tries to be lifelike, it's not very normal to have the same outfit everyday for the whole year (except winter).

This anime gets hate for the infamous "Endless Eight", a series of episodes with little difference with each other, but are basically the same events over and over again. It's basically about an arc that could have been easily fit into two episodes but they made it eight. The clincher is: it has a bullshit and unsatisfying ending.
But even without that. This season was still garbage. Maybe it'll bump my review to 2 instead of 1 if E8 wasn't there. But still. You know the exciting out-of-this-world fantasies in the first season? They're gone in the second. The anime devolved into a shitty comedy school

life anime. (Note that I'm not insulting school life anime, it's just Haruhi that is shitty) Occasionally you'll see Haruhi's powers pop out and Nagato (the alien) using her abilities, but they're very diminished. And Asahina (the time traveler) and Koizumi (the esper), their incidences have vanished. No more time travel and closed spaces.
I don't know what the hell happened with the studio. They've released that garbage Endless Eight, and for the other episodes they've removed the aspects of fantasy which is what made the first season interesting and made the fans watch in the first place.

I picked up this anime since it was so highly rated, and it looked like a harem and I kinda like harems so yeah.
Unfortunately, after watching all the 15 episodes, I can say that this is one of those anime that is not for everyone. It's hit or miss. For me, it was a huge miss.
It's unique. Not like any anime I've seen before. The format is that the anime frequently flashes words and phrases in the screen. I don't know if it appeals to people but I didn't like it. It's kinda annoying and I can't believe I endured it to the end and

didn't drop the anime. And the way it focuses toooo much on the conversations. Ugh.
The fanservice. My god. There's good fanservice and bad fanservice. For me the fanservice in this anime is bad. A fking panty shot as the first scene in the anime almost made me want to drop it already. It didn't get any better.
The characters. I hated the main female character. She's a, how do I say this, dan-yan-dere claiming to be a tsundere. Without the dere part. I can't believe that I'd find a character more annoying than those wimpy loser male MC protagonists. The other characters aren't much better. One is a pedophilia grope machine who's only memorable trait is stuttering the MC's sentence, the other is a generic "I have feelings for onii-chan" girl with a unsightly character design, another is a generic big-boobed cat-eared fanservice girl. Only that lesbian girl was decent for me (I still don't like her though, just that I don't hate her unlike the other girls).
And the male MC is a raging perverted man who seems to be lusting for just about everything and everyone. Including the younger characters. I haven't seen an anime with worse pedophilia than this anime (there probably are, but this anime is popular.) Come on, stop groping and harassing that elementary school girl already!
The story and plot. If you thought that if you ignore the powerpoint presentations and shitty characters and pedophilia the anime will at least be decent, you're wrong. The monsters and myth aspects might be slightly interesting, but they were executed poorly. I didn't have any times where I wasn't bored when watching this anime, but there sure are a lot of times where was disgusted. No where in the genres did I find pedophilia and gore.
The sound is the only redeeming aspect for me. I loved all of the opening songs. I liked listening to Staple Stable, Sugar Sweet Nightmare, Kaerimichi, and my now all time favorite opening music is Renai Circulation. Kana Hanazawa really did good with that one.
Unfortunately, outside of the great music, it just doesn't click for me. It's unique but that doesn't mean it's good. I suppose some find the "flash words in the screen all the time" great, some like long conversations, some liked the grills and their personalities (I didn't), some have different tastes in fanservice, and some like openly perverted and pedophilic main characters . But not me.
Man I'm glad I wasn't interested enough to watch the next seasons. It now includes more child-y characters. It now includes incest, with the male MC's two little sisters. Yay for pedophilic incest.

This anime is great. At first glance, looking at the setting of guy surrounded by cute girls in a dungeon RPG fantasy, it makes you think of Shitty Art Online, or maybe that Dungeon-something anime with the big-boobed goddess. But this, this is not like those sad excuses for animes. It was actually enjoyable, it was funny, it was entertaining, and you will rarely cringe or get bored while watching it. Main thing is, this is primarily a comedy anime, so if you're looking for a serious anime then this is not the anime for you.

by a full team of wackos, each of which have really interesting and funny design, character, and personalities.
The story... Doesn't take itself seriously. And well, it doesn't have to, since it better this way for this comedy anime. The "main" goal is to defeat the Devil King and stuff, but for most of the anime they were just mostly dealing with toads and cabbages and goofy villains. But at least they have actual progress from being newbies and they aren't OP from the start unlike some other RPG-style anime.
Regarding fanservice. OH GOD(dess) STOP SHOWING AQUA'S BARE BUTTOCKS ALL THE TIME. Seriously this is my main irk with this anime, they have a character who has a very short skirt and doesn't wear underwear, and they like to show it all the time. But oh well aside from that, it's not as bad as other anime. There are few other generic ecchi scenes such as panty stealing and taking a bath together (both of which are actually hilarious), and some characters wear very skimpily, but for the main cast, aside from Aqua, it's not too distracting and irritating to the story.
The OP is catchy and the ED is pretty great. The voice acting was on point with the characters and their quirky personalities.
The art leaves a lot to be desired, though. The designs of the most of the characters are good, but the animation sometimes fall flat and feel lazy and the faces occasionally look weird if you look closely. And the boobs. Fking hell if you want to include bouncing boobs at least make it look right. Aqua damn it.
But oh well. This anime is one to watch if you really want to laugh, if you want to see a quirky and entertaining main cast, if you're tired of all those other shitty RPG-based anime. It's short and has very little plot and mostly just comedy, but it's damn good at what it was mainly meant to do: make you laugh.
