I see a lot of reviews on opposite sides of the scale. It feels like people are either extremely harsh or extremely in love with it. I enjoy the series personally but i'd like to be fair.

I picked this up after hearing a fair bit about it, it was exactly what i was expecting , which isn't bad at all. I do feel like this would be better as a show since the story moves very episodically.
I do enjoy that the main character has other hobbies or quirks that make him a charming and enjoyable and that he has a motivation. I'll admit though the content is like the title, Brutal, when it came to some scenes i do wish it wasn't as dragged out like in scene regarding assault. I overall did enjoy it though despite that. Idk how but the main character almost felt like a side piece of the story. ( Spoiler?not really)
With the title Yasuke i was expecting it to be about Yasuke, which it partially is i'll give some credit to that. Instead the majority of the show was about a character i had no reason to care about , random villains that barley interested me. What i did like; I did like the fact that they didn't entirely ignore that Yasuke's race would affect they way he was treated and seen in a different country. Why i dropped it within the first 10 minutes. I started the series because i heard it had a good female lead who wasn't over sexualized. I don't think the person who said that understands what sexualization is, you don't have to be naked to be sexualized. Every 1-4 minutes i see the main lead's underwear who is a minor in shots that are so unneeded. I love this show but i do see and hear everyone's points on the matter of sexim and transphobic and homophobic hints in the show. It definitely something you have to push through but can't deny it is there. Nostalgia is what saves this show in a way since that is the main reason i enjoy it. I do not enjoy the push of gender rolls, it is often brought up but in a way where it is almost laughable . I enjoy the show but i will admit those do hinder my experience. i feel like this show suffered by a lot of budget cuts, it has the exoskeleton of something great and has potential . I overall love the themes but they were thrown in, the show feels chunky in the sense of great sections and just something flimsy. I feel the series should've been longer to have time to flesh out what the story was trying to portray. Especially internal conflict and over all plot . I would give it a 5 but i don't think that's fair .
