The story wants you to feel sorry for a terrible MC, yes characters should be flawed and yes he had a bad life before hand but why should I feel sorry if he's a grown man in a body of a child pursuing a relationship with a minor, which yes he ultimately does the deed with her in season 2. No spoiler warning because if you really wanted to be pleasantly surprised with that, you need help. I think that's all you really need to know about this series. If you can look passed this and enjoy the other elements which I admit they have ... done well, but can still enjoy the series, I think you need to realign your values.

Binging through this was a blast.

I'm really happy with the dub voice acting which is extremely key when you need jokes to land instead of solely relying on slapstick humour. The voice actors who voice acted for Dot (spikey red haired kid) and Tom (sports leader who talks about bamboo a lot) really stood out to me. They really gave the impression that the voice acting cast really had fun with their roles. Tom and Dot's dub voice acted lines were written really well, they really suit their character. Also seeing how Mash deals with the predicaments given his unique circumstances compared to everyone ... else in a world ran by magic was also very funny to see and done very well, despite some being quite predictable.

Aside from the compliments regarding how the comedy has been handled, not all the jokes landed. Especially near the start, when they were trying to push the narrative that Mash was a meathead by making him destroying stuff on accident, it didn't really land. But as the episodes went on they started landing way more consistently such as Mash's monotone fast replies which he says without thinking, which was more enjoyable than him destroying doors on accident.

The character design, especially for the villains is great and they all had really interesting magic abilities that were animated well. The animation and choreography spiked up quality wise especially when the fights started holding more weight towards the end. I'm glad the story isn't very complex, but written well enough so that the interesting characters can really hold it down. Watching the villains it feels like they put a good amount of thought into their abilities. Especially Razor, his abilities being shown in full display against Mash was really cool to see. Especially the mystery they built around it during the build up making the reveal sweeter near the climax, tied with a good villain origin story, those factors really solidified it as my favourite episode and Razor as my favourite character.

In conclusion, this anime was a great watch, I totally recommend it.

If you want an anime that doesn't take itself seriously at all including: corny dialogue, silly characters, goofy fight sequences and ass-pulls, I'd say give it a shot. It does these things in a way that didn't leave a sour taste in my mouth because it does these things unapologetically.

For me this part is everything I enjoy, the unapologetic unseriousness and the bizarre situations that come along with it. The pacing does not drag it is one weird situation to the next and you never feel like the characters are talking their heads off because of how funny the cast is, villains included. The ... animation is great, I love the art style so much. The choreography for the fights took a little bit of time for me to get used to but I eventually did, there's only a handful of fights that I didn't really enjoy. The storyline isn't very complex because that's not what it's trying to do, it just wants to tell it in the goofiest way possible.

A stand out character for me is part of the main cast in the second half, Joseph. I found him really funny. He's extremely resourceful and his fighting style is really enjoyable to watch. I enjoyed the contrast between him and Jonathan who also is a great character.

I feel like you'll either love it or hate it. I think a lot of people say part 1 is the weakest of all parts, I would have to agree so far as I'm a handful of episodes into Stardust Crusaders (the sequel) and I feel like the series is really settling into itself in the sequel. People say this part isn't mandatory, I would agree but give it a shot before going onto Stardust Crusaders. If you don't like the first half of this season you might find yourself liking the second half better. I enjoyed the first half but the second half is the one I prefer. But if you don't find yourself liking this season at all and you're skipping to Stardust Crusaders, look up what happens in season 1 because it has a lot of things that would be great to know, I think you'll find yourself enjoying the other parts better knowing the origin of everything because that's essentially what the first half of part 1 is.

To conclude, I love this anime.
