So given I just read Dengeki Daisy, which featured an age gap (see review for my hesitancy on age gap), I was pleasantly surprised about this one. I can't quite put my finger on it, but this storyline was a lot less contrived than Dengeki Daisy and it felt a bit more mature.
That being said, it's more like a 6.5 or 7ish rather than a 6.
Story (6/10)
It's a typical story & quite cute. It wasn't anything special, but there were cute parts. I'm also glad that triangle drama wasn't the main drama (there is someee love triangle drama if you can call it that,
...
but the drama mostly focused on emotional development & communication). I don't mind love triangles, but I think if it was added into the story, it would've made it instantly a lot less mature.
Art (7/10)
Veryy pretty art! The author was definitely going for the "historical drama, long-hair guy" look in the modern age, and I can appreciate that!
Character (6/10)
I didn't mind either characters. I do wish that Fumi, the main girl, was less.... feminine/proper? I'm not sure how to say that in a kind way, but she felt overbearingly feminine that it felt like her defining characteristics were her ability to cook, clean, and her shyness around physical touch. (Nothing wrong with that!) But, I kind of like my female characters a little bit more rounded, where they have other things they like/are good at. You know, a sprinkle of badass.
Enjoyment (6.5ish, even 7/10 for certain parts)
I really enjoyed it and even teared up in certain parts, despite the flaws mentioned above. It was a good read! (Again, I'm looking for Shoujo reads like this, so I can't recommend it to everyone)

I should preface this by saying that I know that this is a Shoujo manga & that I am an older female who enjoys shoujo manga as stories (as well as guilty pleasures!)
I think the biggest reason why I couldn't enjoy this manga, although enjoying Motomi's other work QQ Sweeper/Queen's Quality, is because of the age gap. I'm basically the same age as Kurosaki... and if a guy my age told me he was into a high schooler (15 or 16y/o), I would be beyond creeped out.
I don't really have a problem with large age gaps, as long as both people are adults whose

brains are not still developing (emphasis on adults).
That being said, I get that this is fictional and the target audience is probably a teenage girl that fantasizes about dating/loving an older guy. So for that, I can't knock it. Putting myself back to my teenage self, I think I would've been ALL over a manga like this! But, reading this as a mid-20 y/o, it's really creepy.
Story 6/10
The story is cute, if not a bit nonsensical. Some of the plot points are either vague or don't really make any sense, but it leads up to cute fluffy romance stuff. It's got your typical shoujo plot points (ie. someone getting sick, lots of rain scenes, etc), but the author also seems to know what she's doing and turns some of these tropes upside down and makes fun of them. At times, I couldn't tell if I was reading something that was poking fun at shoujo or if it was just a gag.
But overall, the story is cute & nothing special.
Character 6/10
FL is a spunky girl with a splash of the typical Motomi-humor. I don't really have anything bad to say about her.
ML is a typical tsudnere. Again, if I was a teenager I would be head over heels for this guy lol.
Enjoyment 6/10
The plot isn't as engaging as her other work, and at around volume 8 I couldn't believe she had more plot to go with it.
Overall 6/10
It's an ok manga. If you like Motomi's sense of humor and her other works, it's a great read. But I didn't enjoy it as much.

Although I didn't really like the first few episodes, I watched 10 episodes to give the show the benefit of the doubt.
I had really really really high hopes for the show because of the raving reviews and I really liked the art style. Additionally, I appreciated how they brought in a traditional Japanese game.
But, that's about where it ends. I couldn't really get into the card game. At the end of the day, it's basically a memorization game with fast reflexes. A lot of the reviews talk about how enjoyable it was to watch the matches, but personally, it was incredibly boring. The

matches were quite repetitive, and as an onlooker, I could barely understand what was happening...
Let me explain. The card game isn't like volleyball or basketball where the audience could kind of follow what was happening (ie. the audience can follow the ball and the point system is pretty easy to understand). This card game is way more individual focusing, and you can't really tell what's happening within the card game because there is a strategy to how one position their cards, and the cards were all in Japanese (with occasion translations on the side). But this doesn't really help me follow the game because I don't know any of the Japanese poems and a lot of the quick swipes of the card ended rounds so quickly that the game becomes a repetitive game of watching someone swiping cards off the ground.
Personally, I don't see any enjoyment in that.
Then there are the characters.
I found Chihaya super annoying. I don't really know why, but her personality just ticked me off. It also weirds me out that Chihaya holds Arata on the same level as a "god" (karuta god).
Arata wasn't really present in the first 10 episodes besides the flashbacks and when Taichi and Chihaya goes to visit him. So, I can't say much of him, but he definitely played the whole "tragic character with a sad back story" role.
Taichi was by far the character I related to the most. The whole love triangle tease between the three main characters also made me side-eye the series a little bit.
I understood Chihaya's love for the card game. But, the two characters that Chihaya recruited into the club had 0 connection to the game. I was really confused how they were so open to working super hard to become really good at the game. Additionally, the club's members had a really weird vibe to their relationship. It felt very forced and they didn't seem like they could be friends in reality.
So, I'm really bummed that this anime fell below all my expectations. But given all the raving reviews, I'm definitely in the minority and am probably missing something.
Nevertheless, I'm not going to watch any more episodes. I might go back to it if I have nothing else to watch, but probably not.

I ONLY WATCHED THIS ANIME BECAUSE IT WAS THE TOP RECOMMENDATION OF KAMISAMA HAJIMEMASHITA
and I was SO DISAPPOINTED.
I don't believe this anime even deserves to be on the recommended page of Kamisama Hajimemashita. This anime is horrible.
Story 3/10
The premise is interesting enough, but the whole series is completely pointless. This isn't even an enjoyable slice of life. I just remember going through each of the episodes thinking to myself what is the point of this? The episodes and the majority of the episode plots/situations were boring.

Additionally, none of the characters are likeable, and some characters are borderline creepy.
Character 3/10
Speaking of characters, I absolutely hate the main girl. Her "hmph's" got so annoying that I could not even stand the sound of her voice by the end of the series. I honestly muted the video whenever she spoke because of how annoying she was.
She was unlikeable and I could not sympathize with her at all, even when all her letters were revealed, etc.
Next, the main guy. YIKES. that 7 year age gap, really freaked me out. He was in love with a minor basically. His back story was really creepy as well. Being this "servant" like person just to sleep around and get to the top. I think the author was also trying to make us sympathize with him, but I could not. I was just so disturbed by his manipulative behavior.
Again, if a guy is like this, RUN AWAY!!!!!
Art 4/10
The art wasn't bad persay, but it was the fact that the main guy looked like he was 22+ and the main girl looked like she was 14 was super disturbing and makes me dislike the art. Turns out the guy was 22 and the girl was 15. Yikes.
Objectively speaking, the art was very cleanly drawn and honestly beautiful, if not a bit bland.
Enjoyment 2/10
No idea why I didn't drop it. I remember reading in the reviews that the ending of the series was interesting, so I stuck around for that.
The last few episodes does not make up for this anime. Just skip it.
Overall 2/10
Don't even bother watching it if you liked kamisama hajimemashita.

I couldn't even watch the full anime.
The majority of the reviews cover it pretty well -- abusive, "Stockholm syndrome", and much like the "Twilight" of anime.
I don't have anything to add, besides that if you're a young woman watching this, you don't need to be like Erika. At all. If a guy treats you like how this main guy does, run away, as fast and far as possible.
The rest of this review is going to be a bit of a rant.
I'm trying to imagine watching this as a 13 or 14-year-old, and to be completely honest, I think I would've thought it

was so cute and so heartwarming and sooo hot. But this was also a time where I was struggling a lot with self-worth and self-respect. And, I think a lot of young women who feel the same way could be drawn to an anime like this that DOES NOT PRODUCE HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS!!!
As I'm watching this as a 20-something-year-old who has been on a fair share of dates, this whole anime just screams red flags.
First, I was freaked out by how he called her "Inu (dog)" the whole time. Of course, I'm watching it subbed, but the whole idea of this dude calling a girl dog and ordering her around was so disturbing.
Second, I think I'm slightly disturbed by the idea of a guy falling in love with his "dog". This is a human being that this dude suddenly starts calling "dog", and then develops feelings for????
Third, I was disgusted that Erika found him attractive and tried so hard to see the "good side" of him. Have some self-respect!
Re-watching anime now as an adult has made me realize how rampant these portrayals of unhealthy relationships are! It's horrible and doesn't treat women fairly.

I'm going to assume you've watched season 1 and 2 before reading this.
This OVA hands-down made the whole series for me. The series is beautiful overall, but this OVA made cheer for Tomoe and Nanami so hard.
Story 8/10
You finally see the back story of Tomoe and Nanami. I love the concept of time travel here and how everything seriously tied together so neatly!

Beautifully drawn. I love how Nanami and Tomoe are drawn. Additionally, the scenery and everything just transports me right into feudal Japan. Just beautiful!

I really loved watching Tomoe fall in love with Nanami. Such a heartwarming (although idealistic) story. But hey, I'm here for the romance and idealism, not reality!

If you thought Season 1 and 2 were ok (as I did), watch this OVA. It will make you appreciate everything so much more!

I never thought I would be into Shoujo anime until Ao Haru Ride. Perhaps it's just because I'm currently in the mood for some cheesy, teenage romance.
Story 7/10
Objectively speaking, this is a typical Shoujo anime. Nothing that special about it. But, because I was looking for something that was cheesy, beautiful, and easy to watch, Ao Haru Ride fell right into that category.
The story is a classic cliche (as are a lot of Shoujo anime), but what really made it for me was the art & characters.
Characters 6/10
Ok, let's be real. Yeah Kou is hot, but he really is bratty and kind of
...
annoying! There were some parts of the anime where I was so over it and was like "bro, get it together" (ie. the library scene where he "went to the bathroom"). Although throughout most of the anime, I was caught myself thinking multiple times that Kou needs a therapist, ASAP.
On the other hand, Yoshioka is kinda annoying too. But, I really liked how the anime really captured the essence of trying to become an individual as a young teenager. That made me sympathize a bit with Yoshioka and really cheer her on to become a more mature adult. (Again, I'm past my teens, so it's hard for me to remember what it was like, but Yoshioka was very likeable and not as annoying as a lot of other female leads in anime)
The other side characters were also quite sweet and I felt really connected to their personalities.
Art 9/10
I really love the soft lines and pastel color palette. And uh, Kou is hot. So, need I say more?
Just kidding. Besides Kou being a 10/10, the rest of the cast is really well-drawn as well. I also liked how in the anime, I felt like they made Yoshioka look a bit older (in the manga, she looks like she's 12...) I'm not sure why a lot of anime draw female characters that look like they're 12 and male characters that look like they're 20. (A good example of this is Strobe Edge, a manga by the same author.. and to be honest, Maid-sama gave off the same vibe)
Anyway, what I'm trying to get at is that Yoshioka and Kou were drawn in a way where I could see them together and not feel like an elementary student was getting together with a high school student.
Sound 7/10
Nothing spectacular, but easy on the ears and matches the scenes very well.
Enjoyment 8/10
Again, this is my personal preference and since I was looking for Shoujo anime to watch, this was perfect. I enjoyed the slight tug on my heartstrings and the beautifully drawn cast.
Overall 8/10
I've already re-watched it twice and I just finished it. A really good, nostalgia-inducing show (especially if you're past high school like I am) that puts me in a good mood.
Like I said previously, objectively, it isn't THAT great of a show. It really depends on the mood you're looking for and what you like in anime. But, if you're a fan of Shoujo animations, this one is by far my favorite.
And Kou. That is all.

I'm going to assume you have seen Season 1 and Season 2 before reading this.
I'm not sure how I even got this far into this anime. I started watching this series because I heard SO. MANY. PEOPLE raving about it, but honestly, I couldn't see what was so great about it (no offense if you like it! Everyone has different preferences!)
Story 7/10 (For Attack on Titans overall. Season 3 was like maybe a 5 or 6/10)
Season 1 was ok. I rated it a 6, but it was more like a 6.5... I love the concept of the Titans, and the twist is interesting. Overall,

the story has a very engaging start. Oh, and the fight sequences are pretty good too!
But from there, season 2 and 3 is hovering between a 5.5 or a 6. The story for season 2 and 3 falters a bit, in my opinion.
However, objectively speaking, I still think the story has a very interesting concept, which is why I gave it a 7.
Characters 3/10
Ok the characters. This is actually what made me rate the show so low. I'm not a shipper and have never been into that scene, so maybe that's why I couldn't connect that well with the characters?
I just didn't vibe with the main cast of characters. Perhaps I'm missing something? But the characters felt so flat, so 2D that as I'm writing this review 3 weeks after I've seen it, I barely remember anything about the characters. To be honest, I barely remember their names. I remember Levi...? But that's only because of that scene in season 1 where he beat up the main guy. And Levi was in some pretty cool fight sequences too.
But other than that, I didn't understand each of the character's motivations; I didn't feel connected to any of the characters; I didn't feel for any of the characters.
Art 5/10
Objectively speaking, the art style of Attack on Titans is really clean, and I can understand why a lot of people may like it. The Titans are seriously one of my favorite animated characters drawn.
The 5/10 is more for the fact that I personally don't like the really heavy dark lines on the characters. It's hard to explain, but some of the scenes with the characters were extremely crude. The heavy dark lines coupled with deep shadows created very harsh animation.
Again, this is a personal preference, and I'm not commenting on the execution of the animation.
Sound 7/10
Great music!! Iconic. Not much else to say about that!
Enjoyment 6/10
Like I said, I really enjoyed the concept of the story. The execution fell flat for me, but it's still a fairly entertaining show to watch. Ultimately, what killed it for me was the lack of good characters.
So if you're just curious or really want some good action/fight sequences, give this a little watch.
Overall 6/10
I probably am not going to bother watching the last season, but might do it if I have nothing else to watch.
