Without delving much into the plot or the story, … is a story of a girl who has a crush on a guy. One fine day, she walks up to him and confesses it.. well, sort of - there is a bit of a confusion and the girl is now his assistant!
Along the way, we meet a bunch of characters, be it his friends or her friends, and we can see the pairings building up between the characters - there is definitely friendship and laughter in store.
And that’s where this show miserably fails.
While there is a buildup and a lot of interactions between
...
the supporting cast and the main cast, none of the pairings actually deliver. I did not find it satisfying at all. For example, lets consider A and B, both are friends of main leads. Its obvious that things are building up between them and it can lead to so much more. But that never happens. They show A and B doing stuff together, but there is no proposal or anything that goes further between them. And this repeats for another couple from the supporting cast as well. But unlike the lead characters, at the very least there is something that’s happening in their lives.
The show is alright but by episode 12, you have invested time in it and you want some reward for the time you’ve put in the show. That would mean some progression in the dynamics between the main characters. This doesn’t happen and when something does happen in the last episode, it isn’t satisfying and just feels rushed to end the show on something, instead of just leaving things hanging.
The jokes are okay but repetitive after a point. And not to mention, there is some much potential and nothing is explored. Again, the relationship between A & B spring to mind, or say the fact that very few people know about the hero being a manga artist. Sigh.
The anime was a fun watch (probably since it was only 12 episodes - if it had continued for longer, it would be plain drivel), especially when the support cast interact with each other or the main leads - there is some great camaraderie - it’s fun. However, don’t look forward to something happening between the main leads, else one might be disappointed.
Hope this helps :)

Now, here's my take on time travel stories. Most of them are okay, very few of them are brilliant while others are just trying to jump on the nostalgia bandwagon, sci-fi cart, try to cram many concepts and basically ruin it.
Haruka na Machi e is about a guy who gets transported to the past (his childhood - in particular). That's where all the similarities with other stories I've read end.
Here, we don't focus on the time travel bit (I mean in the beginning we have the lead being surprised a lot) nor about how you might encounter your past self (He lives
...
as his past self). There is a paint of nostalgia over the whole story but that never felt it was unnecessary. There is a quite a bit of how his actions (as a grown-up in a kid's body) would impact his present but more importantly its about how he deals and understands the emotions and actions that the adults around him take when he is young - something that always puzzled him before. There are these parallels/thoughts about his current time (when he has teleported to the past) and he compares it with his time when he is a kid, trying to make sense of events that have impacted his life.
If you're still reading this review, you would probably want to know if you should read this?
I would say yes, go ahead.
Will you enjoy it? I think that depends on your age and experiences. I feel that this is targeted at an audience that has begun working or rather you'd enjoy it more if you have worked at any point of your life. Not to say you can't enjoy it otherwise, though. Regardless, it's pretty short and you can finish it in one sitting - so go ahead, give it a shot and experience the story for yourself :)

A great anime movie is interesting, with stunning visuals, a good soundtrack and a brilliant idea combined with flawless execution.
Tenki No Ko / Weathering With You isn't one of those.
When going in, I had not watched the trailers nor any reviews, just a snippet that said it was about a girl who could control the weather. I had seen the director's previous movies and loved the animation and how it was simple romance (most of the time :)) revolving around more often than not a mystical phenomenon.
This movie checks all the basics. It has brilliant stunning visuals - its beautiful and gorgeous, and
...
the soundtrack is great as well - it is not over bearing and touches gently to push and highlight the situation the characters are in. The premise is interesting as well - I was curious what would happen if someone could control the weather, and how if her 'powers' or talent be known to the world, how would they handle the publicity that came from such an event.
Unfortunately, however beautifully one presents a dish or however great a restaurant or chef prepares it, the dish is average if it doesn't taste good. And that's how the movie is.
The execution is flawed - and the world building often raises more questions as the movie goes ahead. For example, one instance is when one lead character does something pretty major, and the other lead character just accepts it. I mean.. what? There were many interesting story points that could have been forth, but well they were never explored, something around the characters our hero meets - we barely get to know them and the moment we get to know a bit more, the story has moved into an direction. And there's no real connection between the characters, that childhood teenager romance, the newness and freshness of it, is all missing. Again, an example would be how the male lead thinks he is in love with the female lead - probably I'm not the target demographic or whom this is intended for.
So, the movie is playing at a cinema near you, should you watch? I would say no. If you're really going go for the atmosphere the movie creates rather than the plot. This would be a movie that you'd better off be streaming at home while it rains outside.

Oh god what did I just read.
It starts off well - the lead has just made a life changing decision, which is something anyone who is stuck in a dead end job can relate to. There's this group of friends and her boyfriend and everyone begins to react and it affects their lives.
That's where it starts and should have continued.
For some reason that only the universe knows, an event happens. And its all downhill from there. Its like, no one had a clue where this was heading so they turned into a story that has been rehashed again and again. All characters whom
...
you could relate to previously are now.. different - there is something happening, people are reacting but it never touches you and feels artificial.
So stupid, and a waste of time. If you would like to read it, just read the first volume and stop there.
