Alright my girly-shoujo-romance-crazy-fans out there, this is a manga you don't want to miss out on so jump start reading it now and pass the word! This one, will become a classic in no time...at least in my eyes. I just absolutely love where it's going!!! :D
Just read the sypnosis and you'll find yourself curious and wonder how it goes. Basically the main girl Takamiya Naho receives a letter written to herself from ten years in the future. As Naho reads on, the letter recites the exact events of the day, including the transfer of a new student into her class named Naruse Kakeru. Right
...
on chapter one, you realize that Naho will eventually fall for this amazing guy, but then you quickly find out Kakeru won't be there in the future?! Hence the tragedy as part of the genre. :( *sigh* If only this manga wasn't so new, I could write more about it's wonderful qualities but at least give it a shot readers. When I was reading it, it gave a nice fresh story with a really down to earth romance that will definitely be bittersweet. Ever heard of Hana to Akuma? I'd like to say it's that kind of tradgey but with a sweet resolve. (ok they're both really different stories but my main point was the tradegy...both just as bittersweet)
I guess some other really great qualities about this manga is the characters. The story has a group of childhood friends who welcome the transfer student and I personally like groups of childhood friends in a story. This usually introduces unique characters. And from the hinted love triangle you'll find in the story, its well balanced and made well enough to like the rival. But that's all I can say from the 7 chapters that are out. ^^; I'm being very biased. But my whole point was to pass the word about this manga and write a quick review. :) At least I hope this helped someone somehow. Haha if not...oh well.
Story is a 10 since its going well. Art and characters are a 9 since I think they're just as equally good so far. Enjoyment 10. Hopefully this won't go down as more chapters come in but I highly doubt it. :) Go on and give it a try readers. :D

~Like a whole lot of people who read Holyland, I too was looking for a different kind of MA (martial arts) manga to discover and read. Quite frankly when I first came across Holyland, I thought it was ordinary and probably like any MA manga to read. (e.g. The main character is weak and wants to get stronger OR the main character learns to fight in order to protect those he cares about. Then the main character gets stronger, meets rivals, and blah blah blah...) Still I was curious to see where it would go, which turned out to be something pulling ME to the
...
very end. It really is a great story.
Holyland offers something like all MA mangas do, the main character Yuu Kamishiro is bullied at school and doesn't have the strength to protect himself, until he gets the idea that as long as he can do a simple punch and get away, he'll be ok. However as he beats one thug after another things start to get out of hand. This leds to many rumors and more people go after him. Eventually he wanders the streets trying to find a way out of it, yet he quickly learns that maybe the streets is the only place he can be accepted. Fight after fight he searches for his answer.
That's just the start of the manga! With this particular one, I'm happy to know that it doesn't necessarily focus on a specific martial arts style, but elaborates on the broad term of street fighting. Anything goes when you're in the streets, including the type of fighting style you use and your weapons. It's dirty and you only win by the amount of damage you do to your enemy, not when the bell rings for the match to be over nor when the enemy admits defeat. (well, sometimes...)
And to me, the author does a terrific job of implementing various fighting styles and explaining their strengths and weaknesses in depth. It almost feels like he's teaching you. The explanations are very realistic and inspiring to any person who's interested in martial arts or in self-defense. The characters Yuu meets in the streets are very well made to fit their assigned role. His friends, his enemies, and even the ones who were his enemies before but became his friends afterward. Each person he fought taught Yuu something about himself. Talk about great character development. This drive is what brought the story forward and unfold a great lesson to all who want to fit in somewhere. Just like Yuu. (haha...Yuu or you!)
Story is a 10, being very outstanding and captivating. It's original and is great to anyone who likes MA mangas. A story like no other. Art is a 9, but when you first look at it, you'll think otherwise. The manga is indeed old, therefore I'd like to say the art style is its very own and the fighting scenes are very well made. There's blood and gore made very well to depict the fighting scenes. Characters I give a 10, reason being that they all have their flaws which make them seem more human and ones we can relate to. Like Yuu, who started out as an antisocial teenager who had nothing to do with no one, but he wasn't a cold character. Just lonely and wanted to be normal. I think some of us can relate to that loneliness. Enjoyment and overall view is a 10, because I utterly enjoyed getting into this manga. Like I said, I judged it too much at the beginning but as you go along you'll find it great too AND it's lesson in the end.

***Fun fact to anyone who finished this manga, there's a drama made for it both in Japanese and Korean. Not sure how good it is, but if you're interested look them up. See if they did it right. :P

~Wow, Kodocha was the very first manga I ever read and well of course to me it's a classic. I find it like no other shoujo manga and in fact, I can't find one with it's type of humor! You'll laugh at some of the ridiculous things the characters say OR do and you'll feel the pain and agony each one faces. Big or small.
The story starts with 12 year old Sana Kurata, a soon to be big TV star who goes through ordinary girl problems that any girl faces. If you call, "facing-her-classroom-of-crazy-monkey-boys" normal. They ruin class for the girls and there Sana

meets her arch-nemesis Akito Hayama. With that being said, these two hit it off like a battle to the death! (not really lol but it's funny how they settle things) And of course, once they set their differences aside and going through thick and thin together, they find themselves to be the closest of friends, then one of them starts to have feelings for the other. (hmmm guess who)
The comedy and romance are a great mix between the two in this manga, especially one that deals with young kids. Despite their age, you could feel the sweet and innocent love and really feel the awareness each one gets when they learn the ways of love. It's sure not easy for these two. (so much happens...) And the drama isn't something overwhelming though there will be times when it seem like it. It only shows that no matter how young you are, there will be times when you feel like a child again in a adult like situation and you have to face it head on.
To sum everything up, story is a 9. Though it seems very childish at first the story really picks up as the characters grow and it's interesting and enjoyable to read. No fillers or anything. Art is a 9, since most can seem to find this type of style but either way the author does a great job depicting each character with her own style that you'll just love. It matches the story completely. Characters I give a 10, since they're very lovable and unique to me. You can't help but cheer them on and see them as great characters. Enjoyment and overall view is a 10, since of course this was the very first thing I ever read. (not super hero comics sadly lol) But I hope this manga finds it's way to your "mangas-to-read list" and that you too will find something great about it. I know I do.

***If you read the manga, then watch the anime, you'll find that the anime is really extremely different!!! lol but don't let that stop you from watching it cause it's still funny and enjoyable to watch. In fact maybe more humorous? Either way I liked it. Check it out!

I'll admit, I'm not the best at writing reviews for animes OR mangas, and as a matter of fact I wrote a few and they completely failed! TT ^ TT And why am I telling you this? (my dear reader...) Because you actually clicked this review and dared to look upon it and see what this crazy person is writing about. I applaude you for doing so.
3rd review on an anime I just recently watched and finally finished, Gosick. An anime centered on mystery, drama, and romance...but I'd also like to say that this anime isn't your typical mystery because the mystery involves fairytales and

myths. Supposedly really good mysteries from the novel, it's original form of work. I never read the novels so I'm not entirely sure how well the anime did the novel justice, but to me, the anime was still great and interesting to watch and I very much enjoyed the mysteries in each episode. Some of them you'll recognized but the rest are different. You'll like those the most.
The storyline is a 9 in my book, but the overall concept is an 8. The reason being is because the characters couldn't hold the storyline quite well somehow. For instance the main character, Kujou seemed like an "annoying shoujo girl always shouting the boys name."
Every. Single. Time! "Victorique! Victorique! Victorique!!!" lol but hopefully like me, you'll get over this minor detail. Cause the characters are still good since they made the storyline move well. My favorite character, Victorique the mastermind of the entire anime, is the one who can solve the crimes with grace and skill like any great detective. Her past plays a huge role to the story and because of this, makes her a very complex character unlike Kujou with only little clips of himself. (but oh well) Besides the main characters, each and every one had something unique about them and overall they were good, but not great. Again, the story is what drives this anime.
To sum up really quick of this whole entire anime, the storyline is a 9 because of it's very very very interesting plots and fairytale/myth like mysteries that make you want to watch what happens next. Art and characters both an 8 since they're good and likeable. But if you find them super and amazing then that's entirely your opinion. Enjoyment 9. YEAH! Anyone who likes mysteries with a dab of romance in it will definitely like this. Oh and the romance doesn't get in the way of the sometimes dark themes in this anime, but it actually helps make the anime more sweet and memorable in a sense. (especially towards the end...) Overall 8.
