Mixed Feelings
Ajin suits my niche, and it was something I really wanted to love. I heard mixed reviews about it before reading, but felt compelled to do so anyway.

There are times when this story is firing on all cylinders, but then an equal amount of time dragging. It oscillates between intensity and mediocrity.

Personally, I don't think any of the characters are downright terrible, but in my opinion the most compelling characters are among side characters. I wanted to love this. The series fully intends to be my vibe, but it falls short in almost every avenue. Almost every character is shallow. Or at least they come off that way to me. They mostly have one-note, repetitively predictable, emotional reactions to each situation. Maybe I am being too critical for a story and characters which were dumbed down for a very young demographic.
I genuinely hated the sword techniques and how random they felt. These random numbered sword techniques are so meaningless because the character just whips it out of their ass. Why am I supposed to get any satisfaction out ...

Tokyo Ghoul (Manga) add
8/10. I loved the direction of Kaneki's development, but not so much the execution. The story can be fantastic, but also unexciting at times.

I liked:
The story itself is very interesting and I truly cared about what was next for Kaneki.
The characters were hit-or-miss for me, but some of them made for great tension and progression of the story.
There is a well written relationship between Kaneki and many of the antagonists.
The antagonists are very exciting.
The art doesn't really get any better than this.
