(i should have dropped this seeing the "recommended" to "not recommended" ratio, except I forgot to check that before putting it in my watchlist)
Look, (to whomever reading) I didn't watch "Momochi-san chi no Ayakashi Ouji" to trash on it. The premise seemed very "Kamisama Hajimemashita" (or "Kamisama Kiss") and I was all for it. I was very much here to enjoy a shojo ayakashi rom-com...
Except, you can just watch Kamisama Hajimemashita instead.
I don't know what this story tries to accomplish or what the story is even, it just seemed like a bad copy-paste work of Kamisama Kiss. And that has me sad & angry.
...
At first I was thinking 'well, this is juts an average anime that walks straight behind Kamisama Kiss', but by the end of it, i knew it doesn't. It's bad. it's not worth the time or the energy. and it makes me sad that it is like this.
animation? - so-so, iut got v worse by the end. was not a fan
VA? - Yuukari (tachibana shinnosuke) saves the day. Aoi's & Ise's were also nice. *but take a drink everytime you hear Aoi & Himari being uttered - hospitalized hungover)
OST? - idk man, was not invested/ HOWEVER, The OP & ED are bangers! it's like the entire brain power and budget went to creating them vs the actual anime & story.
story? - was all over the place. things just popped up & happened & it went like that. they thought they could get away w the finale being all mushy-overflow w a happy ending. welp, didn't work for me. Kasha had so much potential as main villain - didn't see him at all, nor is his obsession with Nue explained (and thus, that's my ship - Nue x Kasha)
if you miss Kamisama Kiss & wanted something similar, skip this & re-watch Kamisama Kiss - you'll be 10x happier & fulfilled. Idk if it's because Kamisama Kiss has just been so successful in this particlular sub-genre of shojo rom-com or because Momochi-san chi no Ayakashi Ouji was just bad... - i guess bcs the stories are so similar i couldn't help but keep comparing the two throughout my watch.
There are plenty of ayakashi-falls-in-love-with-main-girl stories out there however, i opine that Momochi-san chi no Ayakashi Ouji directly wanted to challenge/compare itself to/with Kamisama Kiss. Nue is a lovely kitsune design - i absolutely loved Kasha's and Nue's character design, but alas is this anime a failure :(

WHERE IS MY SEASON 2?????!!!!!
Our Villainess was anything but carefree in the entirety of season 1. the plot just kept thickening with each episode and the politics was a nice surprise. this is not the "soothing" shojou isekai I was expecting - tbh I started this completely blind and I was definitely hooked by episode 1.
here are things that I liked about 7th loop:
- the animation is just STUNNING!! you just don't get used to it even after 12 episodes
- VAs was pretty spot on for the characters
- OST is also pretty good
- the ending song is very apt and a banger,
...
the OP took some getting used to but I grew to like it too
- Rishe & Arnold reminds me a lot of Raeliana & Noah & that's probably because both have such similar MC characters with similar end goals however, the anime successfully sticks out to be different both in terms of characterization & personality. I loved the similarity & the difference.
having said all the good pointers, I do believe that S1 with 12 episodes wasn't enough to convey even half the story. it felt like pilot season. I don't know whether we'll get the full ending for this anime in multiple seasons or it'll get discarded. either way 7th loop is a high-potential anime that isn't the run-of-the-mill otome that had started this (no longer a sub) genre. heck, this isn't even isekai lol it's pure shojou fantasy :')

i'll say this much - it was a pretty unique story. but it still was an overall "fine" anime for me. i really enjoyed some of the asmr-like episodes where there won't be any dialogues and it was v soothing to watch. some episodes are also v heart & will definitely have u awww. I think the strong point of this anike was definitely the very vibrant & colourful animation. it was really aesthetic and pleasing to the eyes. of course I checked this out for Umehara Yuuichirou - no cookie points for that. he's not the main character's VA but it was still a
...
likely character that I liked a lot.

ngl i was super excited for this anime & while i think the anime is a solid 7-7/5 out of 10, I feel like my expectations were super high and was not really met. Having said that, I still enjoyed the lovey-dovey couples & i have to say the 2ndlove story that was happening as far more interesting to me - it had a diverse dynamic that I would have loved to be invested in more. All in all, the ending was suuuppper cute & wholesome & I love that - that really is what has me squealing & loved that this is a full
...
complete show in 12 eps - i don't remember the last time we had that lol.
overall a 100% recommend.

thank goodness headphones exist or else the bone chilling wouldn't be as impactful - just how the artist intended.
I was prepared knowing that Dark Gathering (DG) is pretty horror-filled but oh my god i was not 'prepared' prepared for DG at all - if viewers can just be patient and push through the first cour of the anime (which isn't too difficult to do imo, the episodes are all pretty intriguing enough to sit through) - shit just hits the ceiling man - DG is NOT for the faint heart or stomach.
The horror is absolutely macabre enough to twist your brain chemistry but
...
i think it really does succeed in fueling the feeling of you wanting to continue despite the terror this anime will put you through (in the end we are all nourishing a yandere in us)
here's a breakdown in numbers:
story - 11/10 - at 1st it feel like it might be light-hearted territory of typical horror but OH BOY the jump it does is enough to sit at a distance & watch in case your heart freezes over, some of the most grotesque stuff is waiting for you at the juicy centers of the story where the plot thickens and has you on edge
soundtrack - 11/10 - NAILED It is the best way to put it - the soundtrack absolutely elevates the creeps & acts as an essential part of the storytelling & action rather than just filling in for"epic music" - even listening to the OST album solo at night w some good headphones on will have your heart racing - like you're inviting the unknown into your space - spooky af but the souondtrack makes this anime such an S-rank winner!
characters - 7.5/10 - the exception being Yayoi - 11/10 - she's just amazing! i have no words i absolutely love her & her VA. Kei & Eiko are also pretty good but i also think that they are pretty set-in-stone characters who are pretty solid enough w incremental character growths happening. however, they don't steal the fun of the show - they are imp characters that add to the action & structure & are good side-characters (than main) to Yaoyi. There's also Ai who i think has potential - she's been mostly at the back for the entirety of S1 so i hope she is treated well w the tragedy that she is burdened w on the 2nd season.

i think this anime had me in the first few episodes where it was a solid 7 out of 10 & then kinda dipped to 6 or 5.
However, i did like the ending - i thought it was pretty heartwarming & apt for...whatever all happened throughout all those 12 episodes.
Did i turn off my brain after 2 or 3 episodes to continue tolerating what happens? yes - there were enjoyable parts & the fact that everything was safe as plain bread was part of the reason why i needn't need brain power to watch this anime.
Will i watch if there's a 2nd
...
season? - yeah, i wanna know what adventures Rentt goes into in his "new form" (spoiler free) & whether the story will be following the way it flows or will i be surprised?
i think it worth a casual watch & a passing glance if you're ok w killing some time watching smth casual. I do like RPG-style "isekai" stories - even though the unique thing about Unwanted Undead IS that it wasn't an MC-trasported-to-isekai but Isekai-based from the start.

If you're someone who has never heard of other BL titles like "Sasayaki to Miyano" and/or "Given" (to name my popular favs), "Hitorijime My Hero" you'll like this. Even if it does nothing new on the troupes that BL has continued to live on, you'll like it. It's a nice story, albeit w lacklusture dialogues and a v forgettable storyline, in-the-moment of binge-ing, it's fine.
However, if you're someone who has watched BL titles like "Sasayaki to Miyano" and/or "Given" - "Hitorijime My Hero" is definitely an average show that is skippable.
art style - basic
OST - i honetly didn't even care much to pay attention
...
to them
story - basic & can get annoying after all the couples are established, bcs the drag-on is just to fill the 12-ep quota
dialogues - really nothing great, even though there's like adults in the picture, everyone just behaves like they are all fresh out of middle school entering highschool
OP - a banger!! I still love this song!
this review is a rewtach. i remember liking "Hitorijime" quite a lot back when better BLs didn't exist. I wasn't a fan of "Junjou Romantica" - it didn't sit well with me."Hitorijime" has those aspects as well, but it was far more digestable for my taste. Now that I've watched & read a lot more BL titles, and knowing that the genre of BL/gay/queer anime is seeing a change and a revolution which is very much encouraged and appreciated, it's hard to recommend "Hitorijime" in this new age.
it's open minded on the most obvious level - it gives you the bare-minimum and doesn't really explore beyond. it's boring like that and i don't see myself coming back to it ever again. it doesn't give the same emotions like "Sasayaki to Miyano" and/or "Given" (for me). tbh, i couldn't care nor relate to the characters' struggles and worries in "Hitorijime" and that's...sad.
it is what it is - it's an ok-to-average watch if you don't wanything too intense to get your heartsrtings singing ig.

- the 1st episde was pretty cringe, the 2nd episode wasn't redeming either. however, i liked the idea of the story and I wanted to test if it gets any worse
- ironically, the story picks up by the 3rd episode and i genuinely found myself interested and binged the rest of the series
- character growth: there is some? this entire show is basically based on character growth so it would be pretty awkward if there weren't any. however, i'll say that it's "too smooth an uphill" for the MC - but i don't hate it in terms of just getting the story told and moving
...
forward.
- the other MC: Hinami - can be pitifully petty and that can be annoying. however, i do like Tomozaki's and Hinami's dynamic.
- the other characters/friends: not much in terms of development, felt filer-types, but fairly enjoyable.
- thoughts: frankly, i didn't think that this anime would come out w a "fine" passing grade in my books (6/10). there are things i found unique that the show handled well (but could have obvs done better) like complicated emotions of love and envy between friends - the entire theme of rivalry in friendship; layering of personalities; choosing & figuring out what you 'truly' want from life through the ropes of self-development which i found to be rather realistic and sincere (and having not a half-bad shut-in MC really helps, which is rather a non-cliche) to some extent. the show doesn't go into unnecessary romance drama either which is a plus actually. it let's the characters choose their own pacing and one could say the youthfullness & playfullness of highscool life is well-captured in this anime. what can get awkward tho is definitely the borderline unwanted echiness that is pushed to the frame for no particular reason. at least make Mimimi and Tama a lesbian couple then! i call whatever's happening b/w them queerbating
- thoughts on shipping: since there is a 2nd season listing on MAL, I'm slightly anticipating it. there are some cliches obvs, but there also aren't. It would be wonderful if this anime doesn't follow the cliche of having both the MCs - Tomozaki and Hinami shipped as a couple because i think their current dynamic is faaar better than it would be if they were an actual couple. besides, there is zero hints of either showing interest of liking each other in any sense other than sheer respect of being fellow gamers who also happen to take life-lesson classes from each other. i like that about them! i really ship Kikuchi w Tomozaki - (MILD SPOILER HERE) something about their talk in their 3rd 'date' really got me - a boy struggling w self-development and socialising, talking to a writer and asking for her advice, just seemed to make sense and then you also see them on a 4th date at the end of the anime as well! if this keeps up then i'd say that it terms of character pairing, you have something unique here. it's not a cliche - but it seems like a hard expectations to have that the MCs won't be paired up at the end of the day - i can only hope.

stupid girl gets obsessively infatuated and falls in love with an absolute controlling kinda-red-flaggy popular good-looking boy from her class with a quite traumatic past and the relationship that they try to grow rots and rots and rots because of mistrust, incredible possessiveness and jealousy, not being honest with each other (till the end) and above all, miscommunication.
- the story REALLY tried hard to make it mature even though it had high-school characters
- the characters did not leave any kind of lasting impact on me
- Nanami (the female protag) gets insufferable and annoying pretty quickly
- Yano (the male protag) is not someone you'd
...
want to date either (his best friend is far better-suited man for Nanami imo)
- relatability is nowhere present in the entirety of this 26-episode mammoth
- gets very irritating and tiring hella quckly (like after 10 eps)
- none of the dialogues in this anime leave any sort of impact/impression/depth that leaves you thinking (which I really try to find in romance/SoLs)
- the ending isn't even anything great and just makes you wish why did you waste your time watching this
Basically, the execution from the ground-up is just poor -- clearly I'm not an audience for this particular story/anime (even though I'm someone who loves watching SoLs). Moreover, the anime title doesn't even make sense even by the end of it and i'm just "???" with the whole thing.
I don't write reviews of anime but really, save your time, tears and emotions from watching this one...
