In the beginning, Kusatta Kyoushi no Houteishiki is lighthearted and well-balanced between Atsushi and Masayoshi's budding romance and Tooru and Masami's existing one, but after a while the first two kind of take a step back and give center stage to Tooru and Masami's relationship. Of course I enjoyed watching their romance progress, but at times it almost seemed a little dragged on. Once those two hit the next level of their relationship, however, Masayoshi and Atsushi stepped back up and created the best parts of the manga for me. My initial reason for starting Kyou Kara Maou! was the shounen-ai premise (boy is transported—or rather, flushed down a toilet—to another world where the laws are extremely different and ends up accidentally proposing to one of the Maou's sons; sounds like fun to me!) and I became a little disappointed when I realized it wasn't a strictly shounen-ai anime, or even one that focused largely on romance, but after only a handful of episodes I was addicted to the humour and characters and there was absolutely no return.

The beginning of Boy Princess is very rushed, and after starting it I began to wonder if it would even be worthwhile to keep reading. Once things slowed down, however, and the focus settled on the absolutely mind-boggling relationship between Jed and Nicole, I immediately forgave the rushed start and became more and more involved with the story, which is far more complicated than it seems at first glance.

Boy Princess certainly has its share of humourous and lighthearted moments, but it has just as many scenes that make you go, "Huh?" and "No way!", and even a few that'll break your heart. The characters are ...
