Yeah wish they explore darker theme's without it being a edgy show catered to angsty teenagers, main protagonists in the 70s to 90s and even some of the 2000's used to be so cool. nowadays most of them are virgins or even worse incells, they don't have to be Golgo 13 cool but atleast make them like Joe from Megalo box or Spike Spiegel from beop. Adult characters can do just as fine as teenagers especially when there are a lot of adults nowadays that watches anime who grew up with anime in the begin 2010s or even 2000s and before. there always be need for teenage characters but atleast a bit more adult themed anime with characters in their 20s or 30s can be great and there is defiantly a market for it.

I really like character arcs that explore the more darker aspects of life. Just look at Yabuki Joe, Megalo box being a 50 years celebration for Ashita no Joe so it makes sense they have similar themes still Megalo box did a great job différencianting from Ashita No Joe and there are definitely new aspects in Megalo that made a unique piece even if there are aspects taken from Ashita no Joe. If you can get use to the 70s artstyle and like Megalo, Ashita no Joe is a very important piece in Anime history and has pretty similar storytelling to Megalo.

The 2nd season of Megalo box does hit very hard. Huge improvement over the bit weaker first season, remember watching the second season weekly & it was one of the best shows of that year. Also gave you a follow on Anilist, what's my backup list.
