Mixed Feelings
A weak story with a good presentation.

California Crisis has a striking style which looks like someone took an Eizin Suzuki painting and animated it, and to go with that striking visual style it has a strong "city pop" score that really ties well with the visual presentation. but in terms of the actual plot, it's short, underdeveloped, and ends abruptly. It feels like it's the first half of something bigger, however there is no sequel.

It's a pretty time capsule of the Japanese perception of America in the 1980's, but should be regarded more as a beautiful painting in a museum rather than a compelling story ...

A really bad sequel to a really great show.

Story makes little sense, found myself lost as to what was happening. The fanservice nudity was distracting and very in-your-face. Just seems like an extreme fanservice romp for cumbrained otaku. First 3 episodes are nothing but trash, 4-6 is a little better but not by much.

It's just space magic and absurd spectacle with squealing obnoxious girls who must have an allergy to clothes. Tries desperately to wring some tears out of gunbuster fans by hitting you with "At the end of the river of time" but ultimately fails to have any real emotional impact due to underdeveloped ...

One of the best stories ever told in the mecha genre.

Beautiful story, and a satisfying yet intensly bittersweet ending. A story that truly shows how humanity will go to any lengths to survive against the cold uncaring cosmos. It's easy to think of it as the older and more mature sibling of Evangelion. Instead of sitting around, moping about, throwing its arms in the air and proclaiming "shikata ga nai". Top wo Nerae shows just how much humanity will put up a fight in the face of vanishingly small odds.

The ending is one of the best I have ever seen. A satisfying conclusion to ...
