Juushin Enbu: Hero Tales

Well, both animes are a lot alike in different ways. First off, they present the action and martial arts in a very cultural and authentic manner with Hero Tales being more Chinese with the Kung Fu, and with Flame of Recca being more "ninja" with the action. They also have interesting principles of how they use their techniques and how they can make them very distinctive from one another. Both rely on semi-belivable agility and technique, and also have that team gimmick where each member has a typical personality and their own individual gimmick as well as their own personal contributions to how they stand out in the teams.

Ashita no Joe

Kurumada Masami, the original manga-ka of Ring ni Kakero made the manga back in 1978 as his own tribute to Ashita no Joe, except he added his own ingredients which would put Shounen Jump on the map. They both cover issues about hard ships of living on the road, and working hard to achieve your dreams.

Of course they are both boxing, but the characters in terms of personalities and fighting styles are totally different. However, the character Sendo Takeshi shares many of Joe's qualities such as his violent past, his entourage consisting of local children, and his fighting style. Just like how Karate Kid and Rocky were partially done by the same staff, you can make some comparisons to here as well. While Ashita no Joe tends to have more of the qualities of the Rocky series, Hajime no Ippo tends to have more of the charms of the Karate Kid series.
