This is the first anime I ever watched IFAIK way back in 2015 when you could watch anime in it's entirety on Youtube. Since watching it I have evolved out of liking "cute girls doing cute things" and "slice of life" anime so I thought it would interesting to give it a rewatch.
I did not like it. I can see how my younger self liked it however. This is the kind of anime where you don't really have to worry about plot or character progression or anything like that. You just relax and watch what happens. For one, that kind of storytelling doesn't interest me

Time for a rant.
This show THINKS it's mature. It WANTS to be mature. But in reality it's no different than the edgy fanfiction we all wrote when we were 14 where everyone dies because EDGE. This show follows a trend I've seen in a lot of Shonen, dumping a character's entire backstory on the audience right before they died. It's the single worst way to do character development because there IS no development. We don't know anything about the character prior to their death, and then they expect an info dump to make us care. It got to the point where I could tell ...

The game's story is better but it's pretty good. I kind of lost interest in it about half way through and just soldiered through the rest of it. None of the characters stood out to me like the ones from the game did. No one in this entire anime was as good of character as Judy, or Panam or even Johnny. David was your typical shonuen one note protagonist and Lucy was your typical Zero Two bad girl type of character to play off of the wimpy protagonist. Actually not really a fan of this adaption. The animation is really slow and stiff. The voice acting is kinda bad. It sounds like they're just reading off of a script in front of them. Griffith is the only one who sounds like he's actually acting. It cuts out some of Guts' backstory also. Along with some other stuff. I understand why as it aired on TV but it is important to the story. OST is god tier though.
All in all, it's the best adaption of Berserk we have. But it does leave a lot to be desired. I really hope at some point ...

It's alright, but I think this show was pointless. The story works better as a game. The story hinges on the fact that YOU are the one playing it. When you're just a neutral observer it doesn't hit as hard. It'd be like if they made a movie adaptation of Spec Ops: The Line.
The animation and voice acting both in the dub and sub are very good however. Also the soundtrack is straight from the game, which I see as a good thing seeing as imo it's one of the best soundtracks in gaming and now anime. All in all this isn't for everyone. Some ...

Deviates too far from the manga and suffers because of it. They literally made up an ending exclusive to the anime. There are so many plot points left unresolved and then it just ends. It'd be like if in Lord of the Rings the entire thing ended after the battle of Helm's Deep. It's jarring and makes no sense.
Also characters stand around talking too much. Writers never heard of show don't tell. I know that's a problem in shounen as a whole, but it's REALLY bad here. The yoma will literally just describe what Clare is doing TO HER. "Ah, you're trying to hinder my ...

Berserk is, in my opinion, the greatest story ever told in all of fiction. Better than Lord of the Rings, better than A Song of Ice and Fire along with anything else you could think of. Berserk isn't just a manga, it's something that spoke to me on a personal level. The character of Guts is one that should be studied for years to come. He's depth rivals that of characters like Geralt. He goes through so much, he literally goes to hell, and yet he keeps on going. Because he has hope that tomorrow will be brighter.

This anime has nothing to say. It has no point in existing other than being a power fantasy. It has no themes, no worldbuilding, the bare minimum of character development. All around just a waste of time.
