Mars Red

When the last sakura petals fall on the Tokyo streets and the sky turns blood red, it is time to raise swords to protect the beloved capitol! In our darkest hours, both the Hanagumi as well as the Code Zero Group will not forsake us! Both Sakura Taisen and Mars Red are set in an alternative history Taishou era Tokyo. The way that people dress, the cityscape and the overal cultural vibe feel so similar that you could expect to see characters from both series having a chance meeting on the street at any point. And speaking of characters: Both shows feature a government sanctioned military group of individuals with strong ties to the Imperial Theater (Teikoku Gekijou) who fight against otherworldy threats to the capital using a combination of scientific and supernatural means. Violent outbursts in harsh battles against the forces of darkness are usually contrasted with the beautiful elegance and dramatic power of a theater play on the grande stage.

Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan

Gintama
add

In Gintama and Rurouni Kenshin, the main characters Gintoki and Kenshin both are former war heroes of a great revolution, who now try to enjoy their daily lives as average civilians. Of course, the peace cannot keep up forever, as trouble surrounds these two as their pasts catch up with them. Since Gintama features almost every main character of Rurouni Kenshin either in character, appearance or historical role, yet comically exaggerates their characteristics and throws them into nonsensical adventures, it can easily be considered a direct parody of Rurouni Kenshin.

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu

...then you might like
Medaka Box
add

Both shows center around some of the most strong-willed and crazy anime heroines in all of anime history. Suzumiya Haruhi and Kurokami Medaka are both perfect schoolgirls in all aspects, achieving best results in both sports and academic classes, yet share the same complete lack of common sense and reasonability. Whether it is the hunt for Aliens, Time Travellers and Espers or the everlasting mission to bring joy to every human being on earth, these girls do not take "No" for an answer and force their way through if necessary. Dragged along on their wacky adventures are Kyon and Hitoyoshi Zenkichi, both your average highschool protagonists with a tendency towards cynicism and a pessimistic worldview. Together they encounter even more misfits (who inevitably join the club) as they dive deeper and deeper into the extraordinary secrets lying in the shadows of the iconic main heroines.

Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid
add
...then you might like
Canaan
add

Both shows focus on military action in a fictional version of modern China. Both Canaan and FMP! The Second Raid feature teenagers being used as expert soldiers or highly skilled assassins, trying to deal with the traumatizing experience on the battlefield. In both shows, the main character has a civilian friend character who helps him/her relax between the missions. As for character archetypes, the teenage soldier protagonists of both shows face yuri twins as cruel villains in both storylines. Regarding the action sequences, an enormous body count and an excessive use of 3d model helicopters or other military equipment feel especially striking. Contentwise, both shows express a very similar pseudo-nihilistic philosophy and atmosphere.

Toradora!
add
...then you might like
Ano Natsu de Matteru
add

Both shows feature a group of highschool students with romantic feelings for each other yet refusing to tell the respective other. The drawing and animation style of both Toradora and Ano Natsu are very similar, so the atmosphere in both shows feels alike. Although Ano Natsu features fantastic elements, both shows' focus lies on romantic comedy and drama elements.

Nyoro-n Churuya-san
add

DiGi Charat and Nyoron Churuya-san feature a similar certain type of humor combining SD moe-ness with random and silly situations. The protagonists Dejiko and Churuya are both green haired chibi girls trying to cope with the often harsh environment they live in. While it is Churuya's only wish to obtain more of her beloved smoked cheese, Dejiko works hard in a computer store in Akihabara to become a famous actress. Both girls talk in a specific manner relating to cat-like sounds, as Dejiko ends every sentence with the syllable "-nyo" and Churuya expresses various emotions by simply saying "nyoron".

add

The protagonists Shiro and Touma are both all about protecting and saving others regardless of any consequences. They both have limited amount of power but somehow manage to survive many fights against most powerful villains. The character constellation in terms of romances is quite the same, the protagonist is living with his main female compagnion and has another tsundere-type love interest which is more loosely connected.
