Trust & Betrayal captures the horrors and grief of the Bakumatsu period from the perspective of a child; if the child in question, was thrown into the adult world and became infamous in the process. This movie perfectly reveals Kenshin's past, motivations, and the atrocities he's committed. It also didn't hold back from the violence of war and killings.
This film is perhaps better than the entirety of the anime - not because the time period here was more eventful than the Meiji period, but it has to do with the fact that this film does not romanticize the concept of a Manslayer like the anime ...

Fuuto Tantei is about The Narumi Detective Agency run by Akiko, Shotaro, and Philip. It takes place after the series finale (along with the movies) of Kamen Rider W. It's a pseudo-sequel of that beloved series. To answer the short question of "Do I have to watch Kamen Rider W to watch this?" the answer would be no. This 12-episode anime made it so that the characters are reintroduced properly so that old fans and new watchers will appreciate them and the plot at hand.
