Beyond the captivating art style, 7 Billion Needles falls disappointingly short.

To put it plainly, the story is an ambitious yet ultimately nonsensical piece of work. While the premise may appear fascinating at first glance, it quickly devolves into a trainwreck of plot conveniences scattered throughout. The narrative becomes suffocated with philosophical musings that feel contrived and excessive.

Equally disappointing are the characters themselves. Hikaru, the protagonist, is astonishingly dull and uninteresting. It bewilders me how I managed to endure four volumes of this mediocrity. The story suffers from poor writing, leaving everything feeling unrealistic and artificial. The characters lack depth and believability, failing to establish ... a meaningful connection with the reader. While there is some attempt at character development, it occurs abruptly, making little sense within the larger context.

Overall, I cannot recommend this manga to anyone. Despite its short length, it drags on, and I found myself wanting to sleep halfway through. The few redeeming qualities, such as the artstyle, are simply not enough to salvage this lackluster series.

Ai no Tame ni presents three short stories

The first story, featuring a matchmaker, carries a certain charm and manages to develop its characters reasonably well within the confines of a one-shot. Nonetheless, the pacing feels rushed, leaving the ending feeling somewhat lacking.

As for the second story, it falls into the realm of absurdity. Accepting a proposal from a complete stranger encountered on the street? It's hard to fathom why anyone would be that desperate for a relationship. The predictability and recycled nature of this love tale don't do it any favors either. We've seen similar plotlines ... in countless other works—a bet leading to a relationship that inevitably turns into genuine love.

The third story, unfortunately, lacks depth. It revolves around a guy's fixation on receiving a chocolate from the girl he likes on Valentine's Day. Regrettably, that's about as far as the story goes—nothing more, nothing less.

Taking everything into account, I'd rate Ai no Tame Ni a solid 5. The artwork and character designs are passable, but in terms of overall enjoyment, it falls right in the middle. The first story does salvage the experience to some extent, but the rushed nature of the other two tales leaves much to be desired.
