Premise is great, characters are good and reasonable, main location is creative, the story is awesome until it fumbles at the last few episodes. Instead of taking on the AI that owns and controls the world characters beat up random monster that managed to slip trough the cracks of the system and AI basically says "whatever, if you win I will just give up".
Sadly, anime originals seems to not have balls to portray actual revolution. Maybe investors got spooked that people would rethink the world we live in right now?
At least the art style and animation are also very enjoyable.

Another isekaislop show, where the only real differential is that there is second character that grinds monsters for XP. Setting is phoned in and magical system may as well been lifter from korean F2P MMORPG where the best feature is being able to dress up your lvl. 80 elf in armor that provides questionable coverage.
Story tires really hard to show that character are going trough the STRUGGLE when you don't believe that they will fail even for a second. There is one moment of tension, but it gets resolved in half an episode. And they didn't even went for slave-owner killing spree! Catgirl is kinda cute, ...

While the premise is quite interesting, the real deal turns out to be not so much. While the show is better than most of it's isekai brethren, it's still not something I would recommend. It's characters, while having potential, mostly used for already well-trodden tropes that aren't even utilized that good. There are hints of romance, adventure and politics, but none of them are explored well and main conflict turns out to be contrived drama.
Maybe there is more to this franchise, maybe there will be season 2 where everything will turn out to be awesome. But as it stands, this anime compares better only to ...

This movie, while it does have great visuals and animation, is not that interesting story wise. Lina bumbles around for most of the movie until she stumbles upon plot but by then movie is almost over. I think pacing like this would be fine if it was in TV series, but it doesn't fit standalone movie.
Nevertheless, if you are fan of Slayers, it's a serviceable prequel that is kinda fun. If you are new to the series, please start with TV series, manga or light novels. And even if you are fan, there is better Slayers Movies and OVA's. |
