Great Premise Horribly botched execution.
As of now I've read the entirety of the series. It starts off good. All of the characters are pretty interesting. Then plot developments beyond the initial romance and branching storylines start to pop up. They are completely ignored or given a half thought. Themes aren't explored, questions never really answered, relationships not really cultivated, most hard conversations that are necessary are never had or at best glossed over. caused the second half of the story as well as the ending to be horrid.
The art is fine but my enjoyment the farther I got into this series was not. 3 out of 10. A good first draft for a story but next time get an editor that knows what the hell they are doing.

So I know what your thinking. This is just another SAO isekai story. You'd be somewhat right. The setting is pretty much SAO meets Dark Souls levels of masochism. Yet I'm recommending it for one solid reason. It can be freaking hysterical.
I don't really care for a lot of the OP scenes that flood Isekai but funny scenes on how to get OP are right up my alley. Give this story a shot until the church dojo. If it hasn't made you laugh by then it's probably not your humor.

Character: The protagonist is pretty funny and the only minor character has been pretty good too.
Enjoyment: I like to laugh and if you like to laugh to you'll enjoy this.

I was just going to write this off as a writer that got too into his story and screwed it up for the sake of catching the reader by surprise. Then I saw how the top reviews were all 10 stars so now I have to give a counterpoint so that you all don't get blindsided by the people that were saying how this is perfect the way it is flaws and all.

twist. The twist undermines everything the story was meant to be for a cheap surprise. They gutted the entire theme just for a cheap knock off. I won't say writers don't do this all the time but there is well done twists and a twist for the sake of a twist. You want an example of both think about the timeline of M Night Shyamalan movies, this story would be more of the tail end of his career like The Happening.
It pisses me off that I had to write this. Sorry guys but you will get emotionally invested just for the author to be a complete dick for no reason that enhances the story.

Okay gotta admit this one duped me more than any other series since Madoka Magica. I was expecting something lighter and bittersweet, it delivers and then some.
Art: For the story and style it doesn’t really fit. Its trying to turn genre conventions on their heads.
Character: Pretty decent cast but too diverse with not enough time to flesh them out. I have no idea why but a lot of them became cardboard cutouts halfway through the show, episode 5 in particular. were Tolkien inspired but holy crap does this have some bad names that don’t follow the rules of language.
Story: The story was trying to be deep and fails at it. It has a lot of melodrama that disappoints. Again a lot of the problems occur after the fourth episode. Also since I don’t have anywhere else to complain about it what the hell is up with this title. It sounds like he couldn’t decide between 3 titles and decided to combine them into one ridiculously long monstrosity.
Sound: Pretty good music but nothing really stood out to me and hit me in the feels.
Overall: I came in with high expectations that sadly the show couldn’t fulfill. I wouldn’t recommend it or watch it with someone who hasn’t seen it.

I'll keep this short and simple
The art is better than most and while the artists don't focus on the blood and guts it is there. It is shown to be more realistic than most war anime.
The sound is alright with a few selected ost that are good but nothing that truly stands out. This is one of the things that stop this series from being great. Most truly great anime have at least a single soundtrack that absolutely blows your mind such as Gate of Steiner, Half of Death Notes soundtrack, and the entirety of FullMetals soundtrack.
The character and story need to be linked together.

They are the best part of this anime. The characters are portrayed realistically with their own quirks, goals, and motivations. I wish they had a bit more of the fears but still would rate it well. The story progresses in arcs that are handled well with pretty good resolutions that even tie into each other instead of one offs. It keep pace with some of the themes of the story such as the price for doing good, scientific advancement, and corruption/incompetence costs.
I enjoyed this anime a lot. You might be wondering why I gave it only a 7 then. The mood comes across heavy handed. This is a war and tactics anime and it handles itself like that. The story leaves me in a somber mood. I found myself hoping for nothing bad to happen rather than have the main characters succeed. The one thing that this story severely lacked was touching moments. They instead mostly had heart rending ones. I just wanted one or two moments where I could've gone squee over.

I'll keep this short and simple. Screw this anime.
Sound and art are fine. Not really too detailed art with a little bit of comedy sketches. The sound matches well with the series which would give it a higher score if the series was good.
Now the reason why this series sucks. TAIGA IS A GIANT BITCH. That should be tazered and thrown into Mount Doom. I get the appeal of Tsundere which is the demographic for this show. Taiga is the completely horrible side of Tsundere. Tsundere are supposed to be a tale of two sides with a harsh side balancing a hidden sweet side. IF

the harsh side is a psychopath I don't give a damn if there is a sweet side. I don't even need to go past the first episode to prove that this girl is certifiable. She breaks into the protagonist's home, illegal, assaults him with a deadly weapon, illegal, damages his property, illegal, and then extorts him to get her to leave, illegal.
People in the anime world, abuse isn't fine if it's female on male. It's one thing if it's a single hit or insult every once in awhile but Taiga does this abuse constantly. It makes her completely unlikable for anyone who has dealt with abuse before and can't just laugh off a shit character. The easiest way to see if it hits the double standard is flip the genders. This becomes a freaking black comedy/horror if you switch the protagonist's genders.
I get the reason why people laugh at pain. Watching a drunk guy on youtube fall over himself and try to base jump off his roof is pretty damn funny. What I don't get is why anyone would willingly hang out with a person that makes your life hell by insulting and hurting you all the time.
Any story that would try and portray a character like that as lead heroine role needs to be burned with fire. I would give this anime a zero but watching Taiga get her karmic justice raises the score. 2 out of 10 Recommendation: Put it on a rocket ship, fly it out to unknown coordinates, and hyper beam it into oblivion. The perfect example of how NOT to make a Tsundere lead in a romantic comedy (Her and Louise Valliere of Familiar of Zero).

I can't tell you why I read this far. Here's how I imagine this series got created.
Author: What's the most formulaic way to make a popular manga. Let's take another androgynous lead and make a bunch of archetypical girls to form his harem! Wait we need another hook. Screw it, throw in some music and talk about climbing to the heavens or some bullshit. Wait we need Drama and angst! Let's kill off a character early in! That'll show that I'm edgy and anything can happen.
Seriously the art isn't anything special and is filled with fan service to keep 13 year old boys happy.

The storyline is poor with only a few real twists and mostly focuses on the girls falling for this one moronic lead (who sucks but more on that in a sec). Now my real gripe with this story, The Characters.
If you aren't into the harem Genre this will have nothing for you. The characters don't really have any depths to them besides the superficial amount they mean to the main character. All of the girls in the series have one or two main characteristics and, shockingly, are in love with the MC. The few guys in the series are the same thing minus the loving the MC.
The one that really cements this for me is the Main Character. He is cheesy, wimpy, and a bit annoying. Now he turns out to be a giant hypocrite. I don't know why I was even a little surprised. SPOILER warning: I don't know how the hell an author could kill off the main character's girlfriend then bring in a girl that could be her clone in as the true love interest WITH THE SAME NAME as the former girlfriend. It is seriously like he was trying to troll his readers. Guess what, you succeeded and I hate you for it.
TLDR: If it looks like poop and smells like poop, its poop.

Damn it I wanted to like this so badly. The setting and world making developed for this series were incredibly interesting, I just wish the rest of the series would've followed suit.
The art was much better than most series. There are a few fan service scenes but I let it slide because it was handled nicely versus other shows with less moral (re: High school DXD)
The sound was good but has a very limited selection. They beat the deadhorse on this one.
Half of the characters were hit or miss. Some were cool (Hei and November), some annoying (Kiko and Gai), and one was show stealing

(Amber).
Now the story. It really annoys me that a story with a good badass lead in a good setting doesn't receive a good review from me. The reason, the plot stunk.
I think half the episodes were written by a gorilla banging on a computer. So many parts don't matter and take away from the parts that do. Few shows can make the episodic thing work (like Cowboy Bebop) but this one didn't. Hell, it took me almost a year to watch this entire show because I just couldn't power through. The only reason I finished instead of dropping this series was the appearance of Amber. This is one of the few shows that I can genuinely say if they made it shorter It would've been better.
So many questions are asked that are never answered. Throw in a few plot holes for good measure. Finally finish it off by having the character bend to the plot's will instead of having them behave in character and leading to a believable conclusion. A bit of a waste but if you enjoy action and ignore the near non existent plot you'll enjoy it.

If you're like me then you know that the people you hang out with in real life and make an effort to be around are your true friends. This means that when you get sucked into a sadistic video game that kills you when you run out of followers you know that you will have at least a few people that have your back. Now that they're in the death game the story revolves around showing off the true depth of its characters while being put into life or death situations. Now it is a strange mixture of talented story telling mixed with mediocre characters. If it continued that way then the story would be somewhat enjoyable but not living up to its true potential.
Then I can only imagine a thought appeared in the creator's head. "Jeez I can do way better than this!" The story then takes on a game of thrones style and switches viewpoints. The new cast appeal beats the old cast appeal like Batman against street thugs. Poor old cast never stood a chance.
However while the story does manage to do things right it also has its shares of faults. One is it has one of the biggest plot holes I've ever seen. You could see it from the freaking moon without squinting. I'm talking Harry Potter Time Turner could solve every problem plot hole. While it didn't ruin the series for me it has hampered it greatly. I don't want to spoil it for anyone so I won't reveal it but ask questions to yourself and you'll find it quick. A second is that the author doesn't really have a mastery of foreshadowing. Plot developments come quick and from nowhere. Last there have been characters that rapidly shift in personality which would be great, IF IT WAS FORESHADOWED. Hidden Depths only work it there was some indication that something was hidden.
As it is the series isn't bad but with a few tweaks and edits could've been great.

The premise of what would you do differently if you went back to high school is practically ingrained in every person's brain. Of course hindsight is 20/20 but this premise begins with a 27 year old taking a pill and becoming a senior in HS again. Don't read if you need the exact science behind it.
Pros
The characters and story are being developed well and constantly progressing.
Handles tension well by keeping unanswered questions while solving others.
Funny.
The art is good and in color.

Details in the picture are sacrificed for color instead.
