A chronological selection of the most important works of Osamu Tezuka, a timeless influential figure on the medium and one of the greatest artists of all time.

These entries are listed keeping in mind its historical relevance, their context in Tezuka's life, and their overall influence on the mangascape. I believe the following titles would help you understand more about his style, life, and contribution to Japanese media. It is not comprehensive and should be treated as a jumping point for such a colorful career.

Tezuka Osamu is considered one of the greatest mangaka ever. He is know as the, "Father of Japanese manga and anime". This is a manga list honoring the best/most iconic works by Tezuka Osamu. These mangas are groundbreaking and helped shape the future of Japanese media forever. His works also influenced the future generation of mangakas including Fujiko (Doraemon), Monkey punch (Lupin), Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira), Akira Toriyama (Dragon ball), and many more. To play after reading

An attempted list of the most important/influential post-war mangaka, and some of their most important series. All of the mangaka/manga here are well worth checking out.

Post-war refers to after World War II. So the list will exclude figures most known for works which came out prior to the War like Tagawa and Yokoyama(Ryuuichi).

In 2006, the Japan Media Arts Festival held a special 10th anniversary awards festival for manga, anime, art and entertainment. For manga and anime, the rankings were split into a popularity poll (general public vote), and a 'professionals' ranking (critics, mangaka, etc.). The only 3 series in the 'professionals' ranking for both manga and anime were 'Astro Boy', 'Doraemon', and 'AKIRA'.

These are the manga voted by the 'professionals'. First place in the popularity poll was 'Slam Dunk'.

Japan's Shōwa era lasted from 1926 to 1989. In 2009, Asahi Shimbun announced a polled list of 50 of the greatest 'masterpieces(名作)' of the Shōwa era. The only one not listed on MAL yet is 'Iga no Kagemaru' by Mitsuteru Yokoyama, which was ranked 27th.

Manga that talk critically about environmental destruction through humans (rather than a natural catastrophe) and the climate crisis - or offer sustainable alternatives to it.

Manga critical of war and militarism. Showing the atrocities of war, the consequences of it or promoting diplomacy and peaceful conflict resolution. Some of them also critically dealing with wars in Japanese history.

I know there's Dragon Quest, but the manga takes elements from the game series.

Literature that, at the time of the release, was set at least a year into the future with a date that has already come to pass.

I don't read that much so some dates may only apply to the anime adaptation and some sources refer to the anime although they may be stated in the manga too.
