Mushoku Tensei Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu is probably one of the manga that you shouldn’t miss and this manga have a big chance to be popular. I am not saying this just because i like this manga, heck i don’t even read the LN (some people said the LN is much more better) which this manga based on, but this manga is seriously shows a lot of potentials.

The story is began when a 34 years old NEET get reincarnated after get killed in traffic accidents. Surprisingly, he gets reincarnated as a newborn ... baby with name as Rudeus Greyrat and lives in magical world where magic do exist. Since he still has the memory when he was adult, he resolves to not making mistakes (being NEET) again and live a life with no regrets. Because he already have knowledge of adults, by the age of two he already can read and speak like how adult supposed to be. Moreover, within that age he already can do magic which makes him as a prodigy and thus his story began.

What makes me interest with this manga is the story. Even from chapter 1, the story would easily grasp the reader to keep reading it since the plot is moving smoothly, scenes each scenes are connected beautifully, and the plot twist in the end always keep the readers to be curious on what happen next.

One of the main interests of this manga is the development. As you know, the protagonist Rudeus Greyrat or should we call Rudi is start as 2-year-old boy but with middle-aged NEET mind. He is constantly growing in each chapter not just physically but also mentally. As a boy who being called as prodigy surely its interesting to see the development that happen within him like what's gonna he learn next and etc. The development is also happen in the relationship within each characters, from hate to friends and even have a slight of romance which is nice.

Art in this manga is pretty well made too. Yuka Fujikawa who responsible for the art is really did his job, even he is not famous his art is pretty good. The background is really detailed and beautiful which really fits with the story and also the character design is great. He really make the characters being as eyecandy for the viewer so we didn’t get bored with it. No complaint from the art.

Another things what make this manga interesting is the characters, each characters have their own uniqueness but at the same time it feels real like the real life person. Each actions that they made have their own reasons not like any manga which sometimes some characters do annoying things without any particular reasons. Rudi, our protagonist is pretty much have a “hero” in his personality due his dark past, like to protect the weak, helping another person, etc. Despite his appearance, he is pretty genius due his age, it thanks for his middle-aged knowledge from his past life. Another characters that should be mention is Eris, she is Rudi’s older cousin. She is not your typical tsundere since she is extremely violent, tomboy and rude especially to Rudi but in the end she got her soft side which is pretty cute.

This manga is extremely good for those who’re looking for an enjoyable manga. The story is flowing naturally like a river, the characters is likeable, the comedy is funny enough to make you laugh, overall you wouldn’t want to miss this manga. In the end, If there is anyone asking me what manga that they should read the first list that i would recommend is this manga called Mushoku Tensei : Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu.

I am NOT a novel reader, so i'll just talk about the manga qualities.

Mushoku Tensei is incredible, there's no other word to describe it. From worldbuilding, to characters and their conflicts, the Art and Creativity: Everything is well placed and executed.

The story is totally what a good Isekai needs to be. Making full use of its name. The characters within it are all amazing, everyone is well-thought and escape clichè themes. It has its comedy moments, as well as its Dramatic moments, and they made me laugh and cry respectively, for being so powerful and innovative.

After seeing the top reviews i originally planned to read all of the available chapters and give the manga a critic of my own but god...
I'll cut straight to the point. The premise is good and i would love that someone who wasnt a complete degenerate to pick and build upon it.
If a 34 y/o were to be reborn as a little kid he wouldnt be able to be horny because thats some biological hormone stuff and other shit (but he is anyways because Japan!).
Yet even when he is a motherfucking newborn he does nothing but be a horny sack of potatoes.
I can accept that ... the MC can have such a disgusting trait and the fact that he thinks as women as nothing but objects.
But he is also a demigod genius who is almost at king level of magic at his 5 years? Come on!
This is nothing but a self insert power fantasy. The MC is doing nothing but being surrounded by girl archetipes ranging from big breasted mature women, catgirls of many kinds, lolis, underage lolis, tsundere underage lolis and so on.
It feels that the isekai genre has deranged into the "my MC is way more powerful than yours" shit so much and taking into account the isekaish nature of the manga this MC is definitely going to be launching fucking meteors and/or planets when he reaches the age of other normal isekai protagonists.
But wait a second! If he is an almighty mage then if there is powerful swordman or ninja who can counter his magic he will surely be in trouble right?
Well yeah if it werent for the fact that he is also a master with the sword.
So yeah the story is basically a horny ugly pathetic 34 y/o neet who does nothing but think about boobs and ass. He is also kind of a god with both sword and magic and his mere presence atracts bombasticly well drawn females oh i mean boobs (because Japan thats why!).
"I haven't progressed much since Roxy left" is something he says when he as a freaking 7 y/o is already able to freaking create hurricanes.
Imagine if freaking Goku at the end of Z were to complain that he hasnt got much stronger when the last time he fought he created a giant glowing ball with the energy of the damn universe to destroy a being who was able to explode galaxies and wipe out species in mere seconds.

The only time this manga had any semblance of dignity and actually portrayed his shitty message of "I wasted my previous life so im going to do things right this time taking advantage of my past life experiences" was some scene with his father (who of course this horny manchild don't treat him as father and only calls him Paul because Japan!) when he is being scolded and he takes advantage of both his appearance and his knowledge to win an argument.

It's extremely sad, pedophiliac and repulsive.
Well to harem, ecchi or trashekai fans this must be a dream come true but i'm not here to follow an OProtagonist on his quest to bang everything he crosses his path with so i cant do nothing else but drop this travesty.

Political Correctness in Politically Incorrect Manga

There was a comment asking when Rudy would meet Roxy again. Someone replied when he could meet green, blue and red waifus again.

Yeah, that's right. In general, these harems usually only have the sexual chemistry with main character until the MC choose someone to be together or marry at the end. Therefore, they usually accompany the MC and rely on him to be strong.
On the other hand, Mushoku Tensei let waifus improve independently and ... better themselves. For example, Sylphy learned to be independent and no longer relied on Rudy, and then she went to work as a guard for the princess. Roxy was going to improve her water magic and then she would search Rudy's family. Eris was going to train herself to sword skill.
Isekai harem usually have these waifus follow the MC everywhere. Make them have sexual chemistry with the MC. The jealous, sweet or hilarious interactions between the MC and the harems will delight the audience. The harems either accept the protection of the powerful MC, or become even more powerful because of his power or ability. Instead, the female characters in Mushoku Tensei can improve themselves even without Rudy, which is rare in the isekai harem story.
Some people said that Mushoku Tensei is deeply dominated by patriarchy. But I don't think so. The author has been trying to show the autonomy of women in this world.

Sylphy was forced to become independent by Paul's decision and the mana disaster, but becoming the princess's guardian to protect her is Sylphy’s decision, which is why Sylphy always decided to fight for the princess who is her friend.

Roxy went on an adventure and travelled around the world when she was young. She is constantly improving her magical skills and adventuring abilities. She was a well-known adventurer before she met Rudy, and had the remarkable achievement at the Magic Academy. Instead of being discouraged by Rudy's ability to cast magic without chant, Roxy's motivation to leave Rudy and improve her magic skills has been boosted.

Eris is one of the most improved females. She was spoiled child at the beginning and learned math, literacy and manners from Rudy. However, she realized that she is not strong enough to protect her boy and decided to train herself swords skill.

All waifus have left the comfort zone, either passively or actively, and are determined to take on the challenge, and in the end their efforts bear fruit.
This is why Mushoku Tensei is so good. Those dropped Mushoku Tensei immediately because it is an isekai harem. It is a shame that they missed out on a good show.

I'm gonna start this off by stating that I have not read the Light Novel. I wanted to read this as a standalone work, seeing how well the manga fairs without the precognition that reading its source material brings. So, for all those who are repping the LN and such, this review will not go into that territory. I am reviewing this manga on its own as if it were a standalone work.

I think one of the draws of a basic isekai story, is a power fantasy. As someone who will never experience these sorts of things, it's a fun way to escape reality, with ... the MC cast as the perfect stand-in for yourself. This is the first point at which Mushoku Tensei (MT from here on out), differs. It openly challenges the stereotypical "first step", so to say, of an isekai. Besides truck-kun, the manga and LN both diverge in its open negative portrayal of NEETs and Shut-ins, predominantly using this negative connotation as a factor for character development.

I tend to measure how well manga are written by the ability to entertain. As with any media form, the only way to succeed is to create a dedicated audience. I think that MT does this in a number of different ways. Firstly, the strength of this manga comes from, generally speaking, the characters. They're real people, with real emotions, flaws, and personalities. They're human in a way in which many isekai characters are not. Eris has to grapple with her own insecurities. Rudeus is dealing with the trauma created by his previous lifestyle. Paul is a womanizer, and an alcoholic. Roxy has family issues and an apparent hard-on for 10-year-old Rudeus (that one isn't a problem in the manga but still). While having blank-slate characters is all well and good, characters that are human build investment. The blank characters simply fall flat when compared to the way the manga is able to create human characters. Their choices may not be the right ones. Their choices may be stupid given our omnipotent presence and obviously superior judgement skills (I know we all feel that way). But, they are believable. They are never out-of-character, their decisions feel natural and flow from the heart, as opposed to the plot. This is what MT does so well. It builds investment in its characters, where most of us can't actively empathize with the solution Rudeus is in. Most of us don't live that life, but, we can understand where he's coming from, and that's what makes us care. We want to see these characters happy, and we want them to achieve the goals they want, even though they may not be our goals, because we UNDERSTAND. I think beyond the general plot, and the basic art style, this is what fuels viewership of this manga.

Speaking of which, let's talk for a bit about story and art. The story itself is fairly standard fare until the big white happens. It's classic OP anime character shenanigans, intelligence and all, and while the character is set up to be powerful, he's not the complete balls to the wall BAMF that some other isekai use (~ahem~ In another world with my smartphone ~ahem~). The first ~20 chapters establish a couple of key things. Firstly, his power level, secondly, his relationships with the characters around him, and finally, what his goal is (more or less). Then, as obviously the big phenomenon happens, everything is bent out of shape. This is where the story actually picks up. It's a very unusual concept, certainly original, and interesting, The gripe I have with the story and why it scores lower than the characters, is due to one flaw. The pacing. It's all over the place. This may be something the LN does better, but I had no concept of time while reading it. I will simply follow along on their adventures, and boom, 3 YEARS HAVE PASSED. I had to rely on the text telling me how much time had passed because to me, the events happening feel like a number of days, while in reality it's been months. The story does a poor job of knowing when time speeds up and slows down, and thus, signposting was the only way I could understand any of this. The art is good. The characters are unique and diverse-looking, generally, it was inoffensive, and was pretty great during certain scenes. Especially emotion, as the art of Eris crying did very much remind me of DomeXKano, and we all know what a minefield of mixed emotions that manga drives you through. I think the art does genuinely do the job and shines in a few places.

In the end, I thought it was a very good story weighed down by shotgun pacing, the art was very good, if not particularly genius, and very human characters. The investment in its characters, the genuine danger the plot drives them through, and the unconventional story combine for a very enjoyable anime I would recommend to fans of the isekai genre.

In painfully brutal honesty, I do not love this manga. Why is it painful? Because Mushoku Tensei is my all-time favorite novel series.

The manga, on the other hand, reads like cliché, half-assed isekai garbage. They've taken the rich storytelling and character development of the source novel, and watered things down so much that I can hardly recognize this series.

Well, I really cant bare to read this anymore and I'm incoherently rant about it.
Mushoku Tensei is as basic as it can get when it comes to the premise of it. The more "unique" elements of Mushoku Tensei are very out there(?) because the manga apologetically displays the deplorability of the Rudeus, the main character of a typical isekai with very bland worldbuilding.
I am not one to be disgusted very easily and I can overlook almost anything as long as it has some sort of significance to the story so I will not bash the pedophilic undertones that is being told through the perspective ... of Rudeus himself. Of course I hate the fact that Rudeus himself is a degenerate anime cave dweller that unfairly received a miracle in the form of a second chance in a new world, but I think that we all wished that we could restart and live a better life. And thats why I believe this managa, despite it's sort of boring story, is so highly rated. It is a series (which has a degenerate and pretty nasty audience) that feeds off of relatability for these weirdos. Now I'm not saying that everyone who likes this manga is a weirdo, but i kinda am. Rudeus' very morally questionable ideas and actions are things that he knows aren't good, but does anyway and he still is the same degenerate that he once was. He creates a effort to improve himself as a human being which is admirable, but I get the feeling that those with similar tendencies kind of live through this fantasy of self improvement and abandoning their responsibilities of human being on earth to just start over with a clean slate. That is probably what Mushoku Tensei did best, creating a story in which the audience of anime lovers and degenerates could dream through and fantasize about.
Otherwise, this manga falls short in tons of aspects that it needs to be become actually good. The general premise this story revolves around Rudeus improving himself as a human being in a new world alongside a clean beginning is not executed very well. The habits and internal ideas of Rudeus makes it hard for me to not judge him as a human and I am not on to judge normally as I mostly do not concern myself with how a character is made or done as long as it has some sort of significance in creating a good story. This however, is not a particularly good story at all and throwing the keys to Rudeus as the storyteller leaves a bad taste in my mouth that is hard to wash away with the scenes and developments that are decent in the manga.
Don't even get me started with the fanservice either, it is something I abhor in this manga as there it is so damn unnecessary. It degrades the already 1 dimensional characters ever further and the horrific pace of this manga does not allow me to read a little faster to escape them. The manga depicts these characters so poorly in the sense that they are just good and bad people with no humanity and agency of their own to do actions outside of their alignment. Rudeus is the only character that is sort of complex in character and the other cast is just... there.
The subpar world, plot, and development don't make it any better but I'm not going to get into that. Chapters 65+ are especially horrid and an absolute CHORE to read in every sense of the word; I'm not sure why I even read up until that point either but here I am.
I like the art tho, its good.

At first glance, this manga was okay and had some objectively decent qualities that created an okay first impression. That however went down is a spiraling descent into your typical copy and paste isekai with some unique but NOT good elements. It has essentially been infected with the desire to appease to a gullible and degenerate audience through the use of an almost unbelievable dynamic of relationships between Rudeus and the rest of the one dimensional cast.
I am not blaming Rudeus' nature of being a deplorable human being as the reason to this manga being bad as many others seem to be doing, but the bad execution of a typical but solid premise that was one of the first of its kind.
