For a Maison Ikkoku lover, the first 60 or so chapters will almost certainly make you at least a little nostalgic. There's the loser guy (Aetera's loser is far more of a loser, though.) There's the long-haired, easily angered/cute when jealous stunner. There's the athletic, sporty guy with a nice car. There's the short-haired girl who pushes herself on the pathetic lead; getting in the way of the main relationship. ...Does that sound familiar at all, MI fans? If so, give Aetera a go. It does kind of go downhill starting somewhere around the middle - the story being dragged out far more than is good -  read more

Both are series that deal with a male student who lives in a rundown apartment filled with wacky that he'd prefer leaving if not for the love of his life also living in the same building.

Slice-of-life titles that depict what it is like living in a Japanese apartment. Both titles frequently show interactions between, and meddling amongst, neighbours.

Both are slow romantic slice of life conceived by Takahashi Rumiko. They are the unique pieces of work among the works of the legendary mangaka.

They are both romantic comedies. The heroines are the managers of the dorms the guys live in, and they both have a past that they have to get over with. They both feature weirdos living under the same roof. Maison Ikkoku is more serious, while Mahoraba is usually more casual but can be quite dramatic at times.

Both were drawn in a similar era; both main couples have a significant age gap that slows the progress of the relationship; both couples must deal with the constant distraction/interference of an assortment of wacky side characters.

Yawara! is a romantic in disguise of a sports. (Trust me, there's not much excitement in the sports.) They are classic works of the 80s by two legendary authors. Both are slow romance that ran for 6 years in both real and manga time, and took the entire time for the romance to blossom in the end. They both involve love triangles.

Maison Ikkoku is by the same author, Rumiko Takahashi. Maison Ikkoku is more Romance than it is Comedy whereas Ranma is more Comedy than it is Romance. To fill the void left by Ranma when I finished it I started Maison Ikkoku. I was hooked pretty much instantly, finishing the entire manga in three days. Although I haven't watched a lot of anime or read a lot of manga, Maison Ikkoku is definitely my favorite.

The Romance Has a cery similar Vibe.

Both are stories about people living in the boarding house.

Slow paced and down to earth romance with likeable characters. Both couples features a older woman and wishy-washy man.

MC is sort of a loser at first. The girl he likes is older than him. His rival is a ladiesman, and plays dirty. MC likes the girl right from the beginning, but the he's gonna need to deal with other girls before ending up with his loved one. Most of the drama in the series comes from a series of misunderstandings, just like in Maison Ikkoku. Hetakoi is a bit more explicit and has more sex scenes than Maison Ikkoku.

Classics of the 80's, both involve untalented male main characters, love triangles with beautiful females, living under the same roof.

Aruite Ippo resemble Maison Ikkoku but in a high school setting.

Maison Ikkoku shares similar themes as Video Girl Ai and the characters are very similar. Both stories revolve around an idiotic, indecisive male protagonist.
reportRecommended by arimakenshin
Even though the plots are quite different, the fact that misunderstandings always pile up and cause the relationship to grow apart is very similar between the two.. Both are good long romantic comedies but keep in mind that the art in both starts hideous and gradually becomes much better later on

Anytime a series like Reiroukan Kenzainariya revolves around a boarding house with an eclectic group of residents, you have to reference the granddaddy of the trope, Rumiko Takashashi's Maison Ikkoku.

Both of these romantic comedies feature very similar ways of storytelling (particularly in regard to comedy) and character development.

These manga series feel very similar with the older female widow and younger MC thing. Though I find Yakumo-san more enjoyable and relaxing because of the characters, especially the 2 main ones.

without the sex content the story is similiar like the main character, rival, heroine, idiot friend, parent heroine, etc. The difference only the setting place , job, and sex content of course .But mansion ikkoku more funny because the humour element is more than virgin na kankei

Both mangas are centered around an adult mature woman, who's focused in her job, and along the story is divided romantically between a successfull older husband material man and a younger boy who's not exactly succefful in life (but gradually grows up). Also both tells you their day by day lives and are a smooth nice read.

University student's worries - studies - hobbies - money - work - friends - sex - love And things like that. Very funny and quirky characters in both. Asatte Dance has an accent on sex. The story feel unusual.

Both mangas are classics of the Romance genre. Both have an indecisive male lead and a tsundere female lead in love with each other who can't confess their feelings to each other.
