Great mangas of Takehiko Inoue. Both are about basketball, with a familiar mood. Slam Dunk have more comedy and REAL have more drama. Both are awesome. If you don't like basketball or do not enjoy sports manga, read Slam Dunk first. I'm sure you'll love it and you'll want to play basketball.

Both depict how social misfits (The Climber - an introvert who distances himself from others due to his own personality and unfortunate past; REAL - people who need to rediscover their place in society due to their disability) who find solace in the passion of sports, to escape from the crushing loneliness as a result of their respective circumstances. They both showcase incredible depth in storytelling and breathtaking artwork. The Climber and REAL are mature, soul-searching dramas that are certain to grip the reader in more ways than one.

These mangas have deep "inner thoughts" that brings in the tears, drama and lesson for all the readers. Koe no Katachi focuses more on the issue of bullying while Real focuses on the perspectives of being disabled. Even though the main topic is different, both share the same real life issues like insecurities and judgement, being left by your 'friends', finding a purpose in life, and the list goes on.

This two stories are from the same artist. They both got a really good story. Only the genres are different. Vagabond is a samurai/historical manga when Real is a sports (basketball) manga, but I bet you'll like this one too!

Touching drama about young adults as they develop throgh pursuing their goal. Both also have quite similar artstyles.

Real and Uchuu Kyoudai are very similar is the regard that they're both about people trying following their dreams. If you've read either one then you're probably familiar with a feeling of satisfactory motivation you get that often leaves a stupid grin on your face when the characters do something clever or accomplish what they set about to do. Neither are shy about throwing emotional moments at your either and both are just absolutely inspiring and powerful. If you've read and enjoyed Real or Uchuu Kyoudai and have not read the other then I highly recommend you do so. It'll quench that thirst for 'more'  read more

Both would say are very emotional sports series about life. Great cast of characters, with amazing moments and entertaining sport hype

Perfect World is very much like Real but a josei version of Real, if that makes sense. The story is from the point of view of a young woman in love with a guy who is in a wheelchair. The main male leads both are disabled and play wheelchair basketball and both manga have a lot of reality about living with disabilities and the mental emotional part of it as well. Perfect World has less of a sports influence and more romance than Real but I think readers of one would enjoy the other. They are  read more

totally different in story but i find both really realistic so if u liked the down on earth modern day stories with no random flying turtles or giant robots that shoots lasers should check out this series.

A uncommonly grueling told story from both manga's in pertaining to the main characters life. Both male leads go through a number of grave cause and effect conditions that's brought about from their own actions putting them in dreadful, isolated situations. The two male protagonists find a ray of light in the form of sports which helps them put their past aside.
