Both stories are about a little girl and how she goes around doing whatever she does. In Shirogane no Nina there is a little more emphasis on the main male character, however both portray the same innocence of the main female lead.

Simple slice of stories with a small cast of characters. Barakamon and Shirogane no Nina portrays this style with a realistic way. The story involves everyday life activities ranging from locations at home, school, or out in the city. There is a decent amount of comedy in the form of dialogues and character interactions. They are simple, to the point, and accurately depicts slice of life at their finest.

Shirogane no Nina is quite similar to pre-timeskip Usagi Drop. Although the former is a little lighter in tone, they both have the central theme of a man raising a child that's not his own.

The overarching themes are pretty similar Both are Iyashikei Both star adorable and non-sexualised young girls (thank god) who have complicated parental situations and can be weapons-grade adorable The other lead is a father, or father figure, who have their own major issues Both have an amazing supporting cast Both have a strong message about community Both have the same, epilogue style, ending so it doesn't just hard cut to you having to assume everyone lives happily ever after.

There's a very charming innocence when it comes to the way Non Non Biyori and Shirogane no Nina are presented. Both series has a relatively small group of characters. However, the main female characters have great curiosity revolving almost everything around them. There may be no overly complex story plots but the countryside feeling that both series offer is undeniably breathtaking.

At first glance, both series seems to share different premises with a different setting. Yet both series adapts well with their slice of life tones. The main characters in both series forms prominent relationships with others that become a focus to witness. There is a gentle atmosphere in both series as well that define innocence and tranquility. Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou has more elements of sci-if while Shirogane no Nina is crafted by realism. However, both series still convey their slice of life tones in a profound way that is appreciated. Recommended for fans of slice of life.
