Once you get passed the first chapter of tokyo ghoul both hold your attention.

Built around a dark premise, Ajin and Tokyo Ghoul tell a story of supernatural horror. The main male protagonist tragically realizes the life he knows will be changed forever after one faithful day. Throughout both series, they struggle with their human nature. They also get involved with other supernatural beings with psychological tendencies played out in their perspective stories. If you're interested in horror with plot twists and struggling with inner demon paths, then I would suggest to give these two titles a try.

The story, atmosphere, themes, and characters in both Tokyo Ghoul and Ajin are similar in my opinion.

Both revolve around two groups living side by side: humans & ajins; humans & ghouls - where ajins and ghouls are considered to be 'inhumane' and 'monsters', but have the appearance of humans meaning it is considerably difficult to tell them apart. The mangas tell the stories of young boys who get caught up in this whole human vs. 'monsters', and find themselves either fully or 'partly' on the side of being a monster. They both have considerable (a lot) amount of gore, death, etc. and are of dark themes. They are enjoyable reads that are sure to maintain your attention with their art styles - although Ajin has better art. read more

I must clear the air from the other Ajin review. Ajin is more shounen then seinen, and the art gives it much more of that feel too. I saved Ajin to read after TG because of the recommendation saying the first chapter of TG was slower but this was not the case. I don't even think Ajin is darker. I much preferred Tokyo Ghoul. With that said I think it's worth it to try reading Ajin. Both have monsters in human form, gore, and relations between monsters and humans that are fairly interesting, and monster-monster interpersonal relationships. Ajin took longer for me to really get into it, which is the opposite of what the other person said. But I'm all caught up as of writing this review and I'm definitely into it now. Sadly, Tokyo Ghoul has cannibalism which was a major attraction for me, but Ajin I made it through on its own merits well enough, so hopefully you'll think to give it a try! read more

Both manga are similar as they explore, the dark side of human nature .
both of these manga are about Demi- human , While tokyo Ghoul is about a half human and half ghoul , Ajin is about a boy who find out he a immortal Ajin .
While the art in Ajin is better , the story and atmosphere in Tokyo ghoul is darker and better .
their both good read so read them if you get the chance

Very Smart Schoolboy suddenly goes from Average Teen to No Longer Human and must cope with being hunted by society as well as a changing set of morals. He must find AND come to terms with his new unique place in the world - he is no longer human, but he doesn't quite fit with the Not Humans either. 

Also there's a load of blood and violence and animal instinct and emotional turmoil all under the everpresent theme of ADAPT OR DIE.

(Tokyo Ghoul has more of the wild emotional trauma/distress and Ajin has some amazing deadened emotions - both styles are executed very well and I really enjoy them) read more

both stories is taking place in tokyo or nearby. 
when i was reading ajin the first manga that came to mind was tokyo ghoul. they share the same vibe and the art is stunning in both manga's.

"Why must one die?" is a question in both series. There are creatures called "ghouls" in Tokyo Ghoul and "demi-humans" in Ajin. They share the similar dark theme where humans hunt these creature. The main protagonists in both series has seen the perspective of humans and are turned suddenly into the other creature.

Both of these are about a maincharacter that first lives as a human but later turns into a non-human creature that is feared by humans and struggles with their existence. Even though the MC's personalities are very different and TG has a lot more characters than Ajin both have a lot of horror + mystery, are very interesting and have good characters.

If you like the world of Tokyo Ghoul, then you would most likely enjoy the setting of Ajin. After all, in this story, an ordinary boy turns into an Ajin (just like how Kaneki Ken turned into a ghoul) only to experience the frightening cruelty of the world.

If you liked Tokyo Ghoul’s chaotic prompt to have the protagonist find out they are a deviant species, you will certainly like Ajin. 
They both have intricate systems of how their supernatural beings work which is enjoyable if you like gore (and biology, of course.) Additionally, they both dwell deeply in psychological and sociological themes—specifically if it is alright to sacrifice a minority for the sake of the whole.
Character-wise, unlike melodramatic Kaneki Ken, Nagai Kei is an extremely pragmatic and detached character. Though scared at first, Nagai never lets his emotions cloud his judgment and comes up with outstanding strategies unlike Kaneki who often lashes out (Centipede? Dragon?) Both are also extremely overpowered compared to others of their kin.
Another thing worth pointing out is the art. Personally, I find TG’s art to be quite unmemorable compared to its sequel TGre: (read it, for art’s sake). Though TG’s art could deliver its impact at certain points, it falls short in comparison to Ajin’s art where there is a cathartic moment in every other chapter (really.) read more

Both have nonhuman creatures (who seem to be normal at plain site) who've been thrown into a world where they're constantly fighting to live. The protagonists are alike in the whole fighting for their own humanity thing (though it's dealt with that quite distinctly). Both  stories question life and death and what they really mean.  Overall I found both series to have a similar appeal to them  while simultaneously doing their own thing.

The story/plot setup is very similar to each other. Both main characters are looked down on and/or treated harshly because of what they become unwillingly. At the start, it would seem like a Tokyo Ghoul rip off but the story does differ after a few chapters. Still, mostly anyone who likes TG would like Ajin.

(I would throw in the Hide - Kaito similarities as well but...)

When people die they have a small chance to be brought back to life. these people are called "Ajins" or Demi-Humans they are hunted by japans scientists. Ajin and Tokyo ghoul are very similar when it comes to ghouls and ajins. I would describe ajin as a combination of "Death Note" and "Tokyo Ghoul".

A highly intelligent protagonist against an even smarter villain. Supernatural creatures disrupting peace in the world. Interesting characters, an amazing plot, and the most beautifully orchestrated plans that will all leave you on the edge of your seat.

If you enjoyed one of these two series, you will surely love the other.

Much the same when it comes to dark forces hunting and stalking the main character. Both protagonists come to learn they have hidden powers that drives them into exile, not to mention others looking to harm them because of what they have become. Even though the protagonists have very powerful and dark powers they are still kind hearted and will do what's right in the end. Both stories indulge in Adventure, Drama, Fantasy, Horror, and Psychological genre components.

Undying characters trying to kill each other in creative ways, similar art style (though Ajin is more detailed), and well fleshed-out characters from the very beginning. Fire Punch is more humorous in its random obscenity, but Ajin actually makes sense.

Okite Nemuru and Ajin crafts horror and supernatural concepts that becomes a main core of its main story. The male protagonist gets involved in very unusual events that changes their live forever. There is also certain mystery throughout both series that defines the origins of the main premise; some with startling revelations. Written by the same author (Miura Tsuina), both series involves a thrilling story for survival. The male characters gets themselves involved in life threatening events that has large impacts of their future. There is also a distinctive amount of story unfolding elements that revolves around the origins of the characters. As both series' story progresses, we see how much the character changes in order to survive. Recommended for fans who are interested in mystery and horror fiction.

Both series are about teenage men, who have some form of trauma done to the people close to them. In addition, they have something special to the and have to overcome some pseudo-supernatural villain who was originally human but is now juiced up and is a psychopath.

Artsyle wise, both of these are some of the most realistic feeling manga I have ever read. Both are dark seinens with a sci-fi/supernatural edge. Both main characters are even named Kei, and aren't all that likable at first ;p Gantz is the more vulgar between the two, but both have a similar feel that I am sure Ajin fans would like.

Both manga are utterly bananas and two of the most consistently thrill-inducing hype machines I know of. They each tackle the scenario of a minority gifted with superpowers, apply the theme of human perseverance and balance the supernatural spectacle with in-universe scientific explanations. If you love seeing authors as well as their characters channel their maximum intensity and creativity by delivering on some of the most bombastic action displays in the medium, take my word and add these to your list.

Both have the same athmosphere, same pace, same juicy intelligent plot with twists! There is nothing classic or even remotely guessable in both of the series. Wonderful characters, life-like and believable. Highly recommend!

Both follow a seemingly average protagonist with some sort of 'genius' aspect. In Monster, its a genius surgeon and in Ajin its a highschool kid with what can be described as a really high IQ. Both protags are fighting an evil genius antag alongside (mostly) likable side characters. Monster's protagonists are all adults while Ajin follows highschoolers and adults, plus the settings are different. Ajin takes place entirely in Japan with some references to places like the United States, and Monster takes place almost entirely in Germany (and Czech Republic). Both are good underdog stories, and I'd say the art in Monster isn't as good as the later Ajin chapters but it's still good. Another pro is that Monster is completed since it's pretty old while Ajin is still ongoing (as I'm writing this). read more

Though dissimilar in many ways plot-wise, I felt a connection in how these stories played out.
- A main conflict of intelligence and out-thinking the enemy
- The protagonists are competent and smart young men
- Shadowy monsters playing a large role
- Well drawn fight scenes
- Unique power systems and ways to utilize said powers

Both have a protagonist with an uncertain resolve and a huge growth, the battles are creative and aren't a matter of strength alone, there's an organization searching for beings defying the rules of death and with unique abilities, the art wants to be a bit more realistic and the two of them are quite more serious than your average action manga.

while the whole premise is very different, both ajin and WT has a very similiar way of combat. they take a very organic way of fighting,with various options,and about how both side exhaust their options. not only that,both mc is sidelined and have minimal accomplishment in fighting,this makes the combat focus more on side character.
 
if you like either one style of action,i'm sure you willl like the other's

The main character in both anime are considered to be a danger to other people and has a companion to help them escape from evil. Both are action-packed manga with lots of violence and blood. If you liked one, you'd like the other.

The main protagonist in both manga find out that they are immortal and can regenerate after they die. Both manga deal with the idea of what it means to be immortal and that the main protagonist in both manga have to use their newly found power to fight against evil forces. Both manga are also both filled with violence, action and blood with a dark and gritty atmosphere. If you liked one, you'd like the other.

The main protagonist in both manga must learn how to handle their new abilities and slowly become more violent, stronger and determined over time. They are also both filled with violence, action, and blood with a dark and gritty atmosphere. If you like one, you may enjoy the other as well.
