One's a musician, the other a dancer, both are good stories, though different.

Just from looking this seems like a bit of a stretch, but they are actually very alike in many ways. While the story is obviously very different - one focused very much on music, the other focused on dogs - the deeper point of each is where they are alike - that is the characters, their interactions, their lives, and the way they change each other. Inubaka and Nodame Cantabile both have the same basics if you take out the music and dogs. The stories both have a chance meeting between a bit of a dimwitted girl and a very talented guy and the events following  read more

Even if the stories are different, these two are very similar. In both, one character is an unpredictable, prodigy person pursuing arts (Takeshi is a dancer while Nodame is a pianist) that develops a pet-like relationship with the other "cool" character that has her or his own demons to work through. Both are fresh romantic comedies that make you stop and think.

Both are humourous stories in wich music (the piano) takes a central place. The main characters are similar as well: a little odd person and a perfectionist. On the other hand, Piano no Mori lacks the romantic element present in Nodame Cantabile.

Both are about talented young artists fighting to get somewhere in life, but the two have very different approaches to it

These two josei titles focus on characters who have a passion for music. It is classical music in Nodame Cantabile, and jazz in Sakamichi no Apollon.

Both have a strong female lead moving towards stardom or surrounded by it, cool guys, romance and comedy- though the stories approach the idea in very different way

These are two classy looking and feeling manga, which meshes nicely with the air of immaturity that is often present. The feel witty and intelligent without being too inaccessible. And the main couples are amazing!

The stories aren't the same but Amy and Nodame both get treated harshly by Shuu and Chiaki. The girls both fall in love first. The guys are both cold people. Nodame and Amy are both fairly stupid people but have their own skills.

The female leads are very eccentric and strange, and the male leads are stoic and stubborn. Despite that, the male lead (after a degree of denial) realizes his romantic feelings. Nodame Cantabile is a much slower burn and a much longer manga, but they are both a delight to read.

Funny/romantic mangas with lots (and lots) of character development. Both are josei.

Do you remember Nodame, who has a weird and cheerful personality, enjoys childish fictional characters and tends to humanise them, easily gets depressed and recovers in no time? If you did like Nodame then you should definitely meet Kie from Koudaike no Hitobito. Plots are quite different but both these lovely characters with their bright and optimistic personalites always help troubled people around them without even knowing it. Also be ready to see that mature and slow-burn love in the other josei manga.

Both manga have a heroine that are in love with a serious, smart, and somewhat cynical, but is also caring under it. Although her feelings don't come across at first, they don't give up, continuing to be cheerful.

The theme of both these manga are not similar, but the romance is quite similar. Useless/unpopular girl meets a perfect/attractive guy. The guy is super strict with her and challenges her to improve on her life and improve as a person. They end up falling in love. I love Nodame and Chiaki and when I read DameKoi, it felt like I was reading the same thing sometimes because Michiko and Ayumu act so similar to Nodame and Chiaki.

Ever wondered what Nodame was like as a child? Yotsuba would most likely bethe best way to describe the carefree, expressive, imaginative yet naive Nodame before she became the great musician.

This couple (Yuri and Manabe) made me think about Nodame and Chiaki all the time. They are soooo similar :)

CS it a tragedy, while NC is a comedy, but I still find these alike, because in the end both explore the idea of what it means to be the best/successful and if it is important in life. Both heroines have issues they need to work out, to confront their child prodigy past and decide if they want to continue fighting.

They're both about musicians and their relationships with both each other and music. Nodame's funnier though.

Like Nodame Cantabile, Mozart Doesn't Sing Lullabies is also a series about music, but it is set during the time of great composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, and Schubert. Unlike Nodame Cantabile, however, Mozart Doesn't Sing Lullabies tends to focus less on the music and more on music history as the characters try to solve the mysteries surrounding Mozart's death.

Both of them show people in art/music college pursuing their dreams. They have similar focus with bits of comedy: romance, slice-of-life, friendship and self-exceeding.

The stories have very different feels to them, and the characters are very different too, but both are interesting and unique mangas about characters pursuing careers in music. Though NC has a more mature story.

Again, two very different stories ASN is a drama, while NC is a comedy, but at the core, both describe a development of a characters seeking to come to terms with themselves and pressures/expectations that surround them

so, the stories have nothing in common, but they are both unique, funny and have romance that is not suffocatingly-sweet. plus, both female characters are unique and never do what's expected of them.
reportRecommended by as3
Two stories about characters trying to make it in different areas of art/entertainment, interesting female leads going off to other countries and cool male leads that appear along the way
reportRecommended by as3
Again, two very different stories, but in both, interesting characters, comedy and romance. Plus, both are about people working in the music/showbiz industry.

Both have very similar main male characters - Chiaki and Arima are very similar in terms of character, weakness and humour. Kare Kano has more romance straight off the bat whereas Nodame Cantabile has a more realistic take on romance and their relationship. Both couples have problems for similar reasons - although Kare Kano certainly has a darker feel to it.
