There's a familiar mood when reading Donten ni Warau and Noragami. Although they take place in different type of settings, both series crafts a story that involves supernatural forces. There's also the cases of exorcism and phenomenons that breaks the natural order of law. Both series also focuses a decent amount of time in relationship building and exploring the past of the main characters. Recommended for fans of supernatural fantasy.

Donten ni Warau and Ayakashi Hisen adapts fantasy themes including exorcism. The main characters has special abilities that play prominent roles in their stories. Throughout both series, there is a strong amount of focus that traces back to their background story and origins. Expect relationship building and events that connects the past and present. There is also noticeable romance present in Ayakashi Hisen. On the other hand, Donten ni Warau has a good amount of focus on family relationships and subtle romance.

Both are historical mangas with fantasy elements, amazing characters and gorgeous art style. Even with different historical sets and eras, the main characters will get a sword to protect the ones they love and their country with (Yona) or against (Donten) magical creatures after have lost someone important.

Both stories focus on eliminating an enemy that is difficult to defeat. In Shinigami x Doctor, not anyone can destroy these poisonous flowers or else they would get infected and die. Only doctors can kill the flowers, but of course doctors are not people who can appear 24/7 in every situation, so they do their best to rescue people. Meanwhile in Donten ni Warau, people need both the ability (physical or magical) and knowledge to kill the Orochi, which means not everyone is capable of killing it. Both manga are very emotional, and include sibling bonds that are touching. The death of one's parent(s) is  read more

Taking place in a Meiji era, both Donten ni Warau and Otome Youkai Zakuro focuses on a fantasy story with creative storyteling. There is military ethnics that is focused with both series' plot that includes the main characters' roles. The main male protagonist also builds unique connections with others (in Otome Youkai Zakuro, it is with a non-human character). We also learn much about the world the characters are coming from including various background stories. Both series are also known for some bits of romance subplot as their story progresses.

I read Donten ni Warau when I was waiting for next chapters of Kimetsu no Yaiba. It had the same timeline and it had demons in the story as well. so there were times I got mixed up on the plot. This was a good read- This would be the closest to Kimetsu no Yaiba compared to the other recommendations here.

Historical (well, partially) shojo manga with similarly beautiful art styles and set just a few hundred years apart. Share themes such as magic, samurai, and Japanese mythology, as well as a sense that circumstances and people are not all they seem. Both contain a mixed combination of dialogue, action, and humour.

These two gorgeously illustrated works tell the stories of orphaned family members and friends seeking hope in a world that works against them. At first, it may seem like these two series have nothing in common due to the plot lines sounding nothing alike. However, both have assassins, suspense, subtle romance, and strangers who bring into destruction into their lives in various ways. In Donten ni Warau, the three Kumou Brothers struggle to stay together and fight back against an enemy that is centuries old. In Nabi, the orphans, Myo-Un and Ryu-Sang, flee for their lives from those that wish to destroy them, driven by  read more

Both Donten ni Warau and Akatoki no Yami are historical manga (Donten is set in the Meiji period and Akatoki in the Heian period) with gorgeous art and an emphasis on the supernatural. In each manga, the special powers and responsibilities of a family line are passed through generations and inherited by the main characters. Donten is fast-paced with a greater proportion of action and comedy, while Akatoki progresses at a slower pace, focusing on political machinations and the navigation of social hierarchies.

The late 1800s, chosen vessels, exorcism and time-transcending love, D.Gray-man and Donten ni Warau share many same themes and feel very similar despite one being shounen and the other shoujo. Both manga have action and dark themes but also bits and pieces of hilarious humor here and there to lighten the atmosphere. Also, the art styles are somewhat similar; both manga are created by very talented women.

Meiji Period dramas revolving around the decline of the samurai class as Japan opened its gates to the outside world. In particular, the conflict between samurai and police officers (with a ninja or two thrown in) may seem familiar. Donten ni Warau is more of a fantasy story than the action-packed Rurouni Kenshin, but it does include exciting fight scenes and some wacky characters wielding unusual weapons. Also, both series manage to balance their sad or serious moments with hilarious slapstick humour.
