A similar asthetic exists in these two series. Although they are different in context, the atmosphere in these publications never seem to light up. It is as if a gloomy and bleak atmosphere is always at play.

Readers will enjoy this primarily for it's more uncomfortable aspects. I always got a taste of bile in my mouth after certain stories in Girlfriend. Well Natsu is different in that it takes place in a romance between two adults but as the story progresses and is developed you can kind of get why they are similar, just the feeling it leaves. I loved both, but both enraged me at many moments.

The life of an art student is singular among all higher studies lifestyles. Both manga deal with such students, their ambitions and love lifes. Additionnaly, the character focused in the first and second chapters Yume no Atosaki are pretty similar to two of the characters of Natsu no Zenjitsu.

Art college life is a turning point in both manga's leads. We are shawn how their relationships and the notoriously dissolute life of an art student influence their art, creativity and future. Kakukaku Shikajika is autobiographical and covers more than just the college period, while Natsu no Zenjitsu concentrates on one year of study and one relationship of the main character.

Both involve a relationship between a man and an older woman and shares some traits with their equivalent characters. Both mangas are also heavy on romance and drama and also share similarities in some of the plot points.

Natsu and Kurosawa may focus on different subjects, in this case Natsu on Romance and Kurosawa on who knows what but still manage to bring originality in thair respectiv generes by creating a work of realism, rather than using the same formula that is popular nowadays. Anyway lets tackel the similaritys : 1. Both are set in real life, to be exact in a highschool and university. 2. Both frequently use sex as a base, may you like it or not. 3. Both main characters show alot of development trought out the series. 4. Some plot twists are almost the same, actually one twist ended up making me want  read more

Seinen romance with passionate (yet tasteful) portrayals of sex.

These mangas revolve around art university students who are finding their way into their careers as artists and both involve complex relationships between the characters and a mature setting, not as in H but as in they are slice of lifes and romances that move at an adult pace and are seinens or joseis not shojous or shounens. The pacing is different and it moves as they are trying to have real adult realtionships not childish ones. Although Honey and Clover is more upbeat and lighter in tone I think that those who appreciate the artists and art setting of both  read more

In both mangas we have a male artist who has a woman as his muse and in both the male lead has a moody dark or damaged soul and puts a lot of pressure on himself so he never feels his work is good enough and the male lead does soul searching in his art and with his muse. In Sleepy Residents of Birdcage Manor (Torikagosou no Kyou mo Nemtuai Juunintachi), the male lead is older and the girl is a younger muse who he rescues while in Natsu no Senjitsu the female is older and helps him. Solanin and Natsu no Zenjitsu not only has a great amount of realism but also distinctive focus on relationships. The main characters' lives are depicted with high degree of characterization. In addition, there's a more mature feeling in both series with its content. There is the exploration of human feelings, honest storytelling, and characters that people can relate to. I recommend both series to anyone interested in a graceful tale with realistic cast of characters.
