Manga: Super Doctor K
Older manga with the main characters being doctors who perform their duties as doctors ethically correct, trying to solve the misdeeds by the doctors who don't really care for sick people some way. Sometimes it really can get dark (not gore, but psychological).

Manga: Tokyo Ghoul
The main characters (and others in the surroundings) undergo a transformation that turns their whole life upside down. They suddenly hunger for meat that normal humans wouldn't eat. <>Tokyo Ghoul: ghouls can disguise themselves better than Monmow disease patients, because the whole faces of the patients in the latter group have become more dog-like.

Manga: Blue Phobia
The two main characters are exposed to a certain ore or liquid that leads to their bodies getting malfunctions, leading to their eventual deaths, but not before turning them into a being that is completely pushed away from other humans. *The psychological aspect is great in both, but because Blue Phobia is a one-shot, that one could have been deeper.

Something that had nothing to do with the protagonists of these stories, made them into some being that disgusted normal humans and made them want to stay away. However, both being doctors, they did not resent them, instead they spread good will: they comforted some and saved others.

Manga: Black Jack ni Yoroshiku
Medical-drama manga created to criticize the Japanese medical society. They are quite cynical, and do not mind touching upon sensitive and taboo subjects to get the message across. The protagonist is designed to be a good and morally-just doctor who goes to extreme lengths for the sake of his patients and refuses to back down in the face of the (exaggeratedly) corrupt and immoral community of doctors around him. The main difference is that Kirihito Sanka has supernatural elements while BJnY is grounded in reality.
